Ever since getting my hair cut last month, I have found myself needing to style it more as it is a little shorter. This means I always like to have a can of hairspray on me just for fix ups. I used to buy more expensive ones, but I can not afford to keep up with the amount I have to buy. I looked around at some own branded ones, and decided to go for the Boots Essentials Maximum Hold Hairspray to see how it went.

This only cost me around £1.60 for 450ml which is a fairly big can of hairspray. I think this is extremely reasonable considering some of the better known brands are charging up to £5.00 for a can of hairspray which I think is ridiculous - especially when I am purchasing one every month. I knew that buying an own branded hairspray at this price probably meant that the quality wouldn't be great, but I can not justify paying much more than this - so 10/10 for price paid.

I won't go into the packaging of this as it is just pointless and boring as it contains all the basic things you need to know, and obviously doesn't look too flash considering it is only from the Boots essentials range. I was more bothered about how easy it was to use, and how well my hair looked after use. I must start in saying that this is available in a perfumed and unperfumed version. I was unaware of this when I purchased mine as only the perfumed was available, but this was fine for me. I would recommend trying out unperfumed if it is more to your style, as the scent of this hairspray does get quite under the nose if you use too much!

As always, you just have to hold down the top of the can to release out the hairspray. It comes out at a nice, even spray making it easy to style your hair whilst spraying. I have had no problems with using this hairspray, and I have found it quite user friendly. You get a generous amount in the can, and considering I hairspray my hair on a daily basis, this normally lasts me somewhere up to four weeks which is fantastic.

The scent is strong, but does not bother me as I am quite used to it, so try out the unperfumed one if you are funny with scents. The one thing I find with this hairspray is that if you hold it too close to the hair or spray for too long, it does make the hair go quite hard and sticky. I only experience this occasionally when I apply too much, but it is not really noticeable unless you feel it yourself. Other than that, it really holds my hair in position well. My hair is naturally quite straight with a little wave to it, and I just spray my hair to maintain the wave and give it a little more volume. The hairspray also works well with ponytails and hair up styles. I do not know if this would be strong enough for curled hair, as I always purchase a better hairspray to use for nights out which is when I do curl my hair. Despite the spray being called 'Maximum Hold', I would say it delivers a more firm hold, but nothing particularly great. I like using this as an everyday hairspray as it is affordable and does the job that I need, although it may not work well on other types of hair.

Overall, I am really happy with this hairspray as it keeps my hair in place for a bargain price. It does get a little sticky and hard sometimes, but it is expected when you pay so little for a hairspray. This works well for my hair, but I am unsure if it would meet different types of hair's needs as it is not a brilliant hold, although it claims this. Hope this helps and thanks for reading.
