“ Brand: Boots / Type: Styling Mousse / Subcategory: Styling Products / What it does: volumizeses, „
I have been buying Boots own products for years and this was probably one of be first mousses I ever bough, he are my thoughts.
This comes in a tall pink tin, with large white letters on the side explaining what it is plus the boots logo near the top. This has a clear plastic dispenser. The quality of the tin is really good but the dispenser lets the whole arrangement down. The cap can very easily snaped off and once that happens it can not be used, so this cannot be packed in a tight bag - this is something I only use at home.
This comes out as quite a thin liquid and needs to be fluffed up to create a mousse so that it can be added to the hair effectively. If you try shaking the bottle before it will not come out properly and it can cause a jam.
The mousse is excellent at creating volume (orin my case should I say increasing it) but if you use too much it can become a little cripsy. But this can easily be avoided by applying the more properly and sparingly instead of just piling it on.
I also use this to tame my frizz sometimes if I have done French plait or have put my hair into a beehive as it leaves a slight shine.
There is easily enough product here to do my hair over 100 times.
Price and Availiabilty
This can only be bought from Boots instore and online and this is really cheap it retails for just £1.50 and I think this is a great deal. There are mousses that are bought for more than double this and meet the same standards.
This is one of the best hair products I have found in this price range and I am the first to reccommend it, a great buy!
I have very long, straight hair which tends to be quite flat at times, and I find that this can be hard to manage at times. I am constantly seeking something which can give my hair that extra boost, and after dabbling which some rather expensive hair care products, I thought it would be worth a shot to try Boots' own brand volumising styling mousse.
It comes in quite a plain bottle which is expected of an own brand product, however the line is available in lots of metallic shades which makes them a bit more easy on the eye than the typical white and black own brand products. You get 200ml worth of product which is a fair amount, and it retails for a mere £1.02 which is absolutely nothing these days when it comes to hair care.
To use it, you simply have to squirt out a little of the mousse on to your hand. I have had no problems at all in extracting the mousse, and it does come out easily. It has a nice texture to it, and it is white in colour. Dependant on what you are using it for will depend on how you use this product. I wanted to focus mainly on my roots, and try to boost them up a bit to provide my hair with plently more volume.
In the past, due to my hair being so flat, not even high quality branded or hair salon brands have done the trick to give it an extra boost and keep it up all day, therefore I knew I was being a little optimistic in hoping that a £1.02 can of mousse could do the trick.
So how did the results go? Quickly after application, I did begin to notice that the product was a little sticky, and this was not pleasant, therefore avoid overusing the product, because if you apply too much of it, you can result in big clumps of hair. However, I am pleased to say that I was entirely happy with the results of this volumising mousse, and it did actually work much better than many other branded mousses I have tried in the past. It made my roots stand out more, and helped to give my hair that extra shine and bounce that it was lacking before.
The volume did last a number of hours, although I would not say it is strong enough to hold your hair for the whole day, and this is where you will be looking at higher quality brands. Besides this, it did last me for a whole night out, and managed to hold out through windy weather which I was happy with!
One thing that I was not too pleased about was that it did not have a fruity scent to it, and I prefer this in hair care products, as I feel that hair is something people tend to smell often. The scent isn't particularly strong, and I find that it is bearable, but it could be a lot more appealing. Nevertheless, for such a cheap price, you shouldn't have to worry about the smell I suppose!
Overall, I feel that the moral of the story is to not judge a hair care product by its packaging! I couldn't believe the results which I had achieved with this product. I get big bouncy hair without having to break the bank. Would definitely recommend this product if you are after volume on a budget. Thanks for reading.
I was complaining the other day to my mum about my thin, lanky hair. I do try and always have a volumising shampoo on the go, alongside other shampoo's, but some are better than others in terms of effectiveness on my hair. I'm not terribly great at blow drying my hair into a specific shape, mostly because I simply don't have time in the morning, so after my mum listened a while to my moans, she suggested that I buy a volumising mousse, which she had started to use on her hair, which a very positive effect. Now, she actually uses a l'oreal brand of mousse, but I actually ended up purchasing the Boots essentials range volumising mousse costing me £1 in comparison to the l'oreal version which cost over £3.
This boots mousse comes in various forms tacking various hair issues - but this particular version that I bought is aimed at adding volume to the hair. The tall 200ml aerosol can is lime in colour with the words volumising mousse written in a bold white colour up the size.
On the reverse of the can, it states that this mousse with give a 'volumising hold' as well as a 'flexible, long lasting ' effect on the hair. It also claims to be 'non sticky' and 'lightweight' and will offer protection against 'hair styling damage.' Also stated is that this mousse with leave hair smooth and the product will also brush out earily without flakiness. These last benefits of the mousse, were actually some of the issues that I was most concerned about when using the product. I didn't want sticky hair, or it to make my hair greasier quicker, and these claims did eleviate my fears.
THe product itself is very easy to use. Directions for use on the back of the can. You simply point the can downwards and spray a small amount into the palm of your hand. My hair is mid length, and I really only needed just under a 10p size blob which expanded as soon as it was dispensed. Even with that I seem to still have a little left over in my hands which I simply wash off.
I used this product for the first time several days ago, and I was sooo impressed. I applied it before drying my hair, and as soon as I had dried my hair and straightened it, I couldn't believe the difference in terms of both texture and volume. My hair felt very soft and smooth, but also very thick with the illusion that I had lots of hair (which I most definitely don't). Since using this product, it has had definitely not made my hair any greasier, nor has it made it flaky, in fact it just leaves my hair looking volumised and silky. A great product at a great price!
When I blow dry my hair I like to try and get some extra volume as I have really thin flat hair. I try and achieve this look by using mousse after showering, blow drying my hair upside down then finishing it off with a big brush. So far I hadn't found a miracle volumising mousse which I had decided to stick with so every time my latest tub finished I was working my way round the shops!
This time when it ran out I wanted to use a product from Boots to boost my points, so I decided to try a Boots own one- Boots Styling Mousse. It comes in lots of varieties, but I needed the volumising one. It was £1 for 200ml, which seemed like a bargain price to me.
The bottle it comes in is bright pink, so looks very funky and attracts the younger market. It is metal with a plastic top which you pressed own to get the right amount of mousse out after shaking the bottle. Trust me it takes tons of practise to get the right amount of mousse out! Everyone needs a different amount for their hair and I have found using too much to be disastrous, you get crunchy wet look hair.
The mousse smells pretty neutral, and will certainly not leave your hair smelling horrible.
I applied the mousse to my wet hair and then commenced my drying regime. hen I brushed it through afterwards it was quite knotted but I have experienced that with other mousses too, it's just a pain that as you brush your hair you lose loads of it into the brush!
The mousse made the volume last in my hair about 8 hours, before it fell a little, but for the price I paid this is pretty much what I expected for endurance.
After using the mousse, my hair did not seem any greasier than usual the next day and I certainly didn't have to wash it any sooner which was a concern of mine when using a slightly cheaper brand. if you don't want to pay extra for a product which lasts longer than I think this is ideal. I certainly will be buying it again.
I love to try out different hair products, so when I was having a wander round Boots a few weeks ago and found they had their essentials hair mousse on offer I though I would give them a try. The mousse was on offer - two bottles for £1.50, but the normal price was £1 a bottle, both prices seemed like an absolute to me and well worth giving a try.
The volumising mousse comes in a lime green bottle, with a transparent plastic lid and nozzle. The nozzle really impressed me! It sounds a stupid thing to be impressed by, but it was really sturdy, unlike many 'luxury' hair products where the nozzle snaps off when the bottle is only half used and it's a nightmare to get the mousse out, I could tell that this nozzle wasn't going to break in a hurry.
The mousse comes out very quickly and you really don't need much at all so you do have to be careful that you don't end up with too much. As long as you're careful then this a pretty economical product especially for a mousse!
The mousse has quite a pleasant smell, I can't really describe it at all, it smells like a hair product though!
I brush the mousse through my hair and then blow dry it as normal and the results are always great, my hair is nice and straight and it does add quite a lot of volume to my hair - but not too much though, it's pretty much perfect really. The volume also holds for a couple of days which is great too! I've found that even though I use this all the way through my hair including on the roots my hair doesn't get greasy at all, in fact I know when I use this mousse I can go a day more than I normally would without washing my hair which is fantastic!
I was really surprised as I hadn't really expected all that much from this mousse; it just goes to show that paying more isn't always worth it!
I spend such alot of money on hair care products it's unreal but I do have naughty and uncontrollable hair that demands my full attention! I prefer to style my hair straight simply because it's a bit easier for me however I don't know about other women reading this but I can achieve nice straight hair (with work) but quite often it can appear quite lifeless and limp as my hair is quite fine (regardless of the frizz lol) and alot of products just upset my mop.
My hair is a real nightmare (as I've so often complained about in other hair care product reviews I've done on here recently). Dyed far too often jet black it is now just below shoulder length. When hair is wet I have lovely ringlets, when it's dry that all gives way to waves and a whole heap of frizz that's just awful. I suffer greasy roots particularly after about an hour of using hair products and they appear too shiny and very thin looking and that appearance isn't one bit helped by having black hair next to a white scalp and I always get broken hairs that sit on my crown! The mid section is incredibly frizzy and gives way to dry split ends which are straggly and no matter how much I try to look after my hair and have regular hair cuts of course overall... well me hair is a state!
I like products that that are multi-functioning. Course I buy products to help my hair go curly and I also buy products that are designed for achieving straight hair but it goes without saying I have bottles of lotions and potions scattered everywhere, in my bedroom, bathroom and any other place I can store things places look like a bombs hit it! So basically I bought this because to my mind it is a multi-tasking product however the main reason was it's meant to help with volume, which I badly require! What stood out and sealed the deal for me buying it, was that also it was buy 3 products and get the cheapest free and it was only £1.39ish per item anyway and gave me a great excuse to buy and try products that I wouldn't normally without shelling out a fortune for them.
200ml recyclable aluminium can. It's long and like a lime greenish metallic colour and has a clear aerosol, pump action dispenser to the top of it and the clear lid pulls on and off. On the front I'm told it 'Boots Essentials' in dark blue writing then length-ways down the can in large white writing on the left hand side I'm told it's Styling Mousse and finally in smaller white writing I'm told it's 'for added volume'. On the back of the can once again in dark blue writing I'm told it's styling mousse, what it's for, directions for use, ingredients, given a warning about getting it in eyes (and washing it out if you do so), cautions about aerosol cans in general and a then warned about the products tin being flammable and solvent abuse killing people, contact details for Boots (and told it's exclusively made for Boots) and size is stated, I'm told it's aluminium of course and finally there is a bar-code.
For a more of an economy product I really do like the packaging from the colour of the tin, it's simplicity and I really do like the layout of all the information on the back as it's so easy to understand. It isn't a cheap and tacky looking tin that you have to hide! It's simple but nice.

Using This Product.. My Experience....
Well what can I say? I adore this product for real! It's a mini marvel in a can and along with the Boots Essentials Maximum Hold Hairspray (in the blue metallic can) is also one of the best products I have ever used on my hair!
Simple to use this mousse dispenses really easily, you just shake the can up a little, tilt the it at a slight angle and press the dispenser and out comes brilliant white and airy feeling but thickish mousse. Now I only ever use this on towel dried, clean hair which I've combed through and I gently smooth it through my hair and then again comb it through. It feels ever so slightly greasy and due to that fact it's incredibly easy to spread so you don't need very much of it. I've used a massive big blob and not really been paying much attention to what I was doing and it seems to me to not be a problem if you add what you consider to be too much to your hair it just absorbs in. It absorbs mega quickly and is really nice fragrant wise with no nasty chemical smell (smells to me a little bit floral but isn't offensive and is really nice and fresh) and then you get to work on styling.
I love this product as it is as I've stated multi-tasking and even on my hair I feel this is really the only product I need to use as it contains heat protection already, promises to smooth my hair and give shine and combat frizz. So I'm not overloading my hair with too many things on it. So if you want to scrunch dry your hair or smooth it with a brush either to straighten it during using a hairdryer, add volume (tip hair upside down) or simply use this as a base for then using straighteners, feel free.
Well I dry may hair with a paddle brush smoothing as I go and I can't feel the product in me hair. Remember this isn't a straightening product but it does smooth a hell of a lot and I can get my hair very almost straight with this product alone. Hair is incredibly soft, none sticky and smells lovely and light and that smell stays on the hair till you wash it out. Hair feels really as promised volumised and almost frizz free. It does this without making hair uncontrollable and fly-away and hair feels natural and bouncy without being fluffy. This wont double the size of your hair but does make it appear a little bit thicker but you are in control of what your doing at all times.
As I said it does this without being a sticky product and hair really does feel very different. I don't find it to be controlling and as I said I'm in control of everything and to set my style I use a bit of hairspray on a completed look. Hair is shiny as hell, feels hydrated and just looks lovely and whats more it stays looking that way even with humidity.
It doesn't flake over time, doesn't suddenly become sticky and weigh the hair down and just works until you wash it out which again (as you would now expect!), is really easy to do as well and leaves no residue or tell tale signs at all).
Hair straightening or curling is made so much easier along with using this product as I find my hair so much smoother so I can wrap it tidy round a hair curler or a pair of tongs and if I'm straightening my hair it's so smooth it's much quicker to do.
I'm amazes something so cheap can offer me all this and much more and now when I'm getting ready to go out I use this or another Boots mousse I own in preference to a whole host of other products that are all singing and all dancing and don't deliver me any of their promises. Since using this I've had the most compliments and for once I have a mop of hair that is smooth, fragrant, soft, supple and bouncy and looks really feminine and is not covered in frizz and it plumps out my straggly ends and helps to hide any split ends by putting them ito my style somehow. I can style my hair with this and forget about it and my style stays in place. I absolutely love this product so I regard it highly and it's something I can afford as soon as I run out! Love it! Buy it!
Only to be found in Boots and in my view suitable for any hair type, even combination, stroppy hair like mine!
