Advantages: Good price, works well

Disadvantages: None

A couple of weeks ago I did a review on the Boots Henna and Horsechestnut Conditioner and I am now going to tell you about the matching shampoo.

I purchased the Boots Henna and Horsechestnut Shampoo and Conditioner a few weeks ago whilst they were on offer - buy one get one free and they were only £1.29 each anyway. As I am a redhead I have used them both before many years ago and I did seem to remember that I liked them so I decided to treat myself. The shampoo and conditioner were both labeled as being for 'brunettes and red hair' and that they both 'enhance hair colour and shine'.

*** The Bottle ***

The transparent plastic bottle about 7 inches tall is quite ordinary in style but smart enough to look good on your bathroom shelf. It has a picture of horse chestnuts on the front label along with a small blue Boots logo. It contains 300ml of shampoo and the bottle has been made using recycled materials. It has a flip top lid which is quite easy to open but more difficult to close properly as it seems a bit difficult to align the hole in the lid with the raised bit in the cap. In fact the shampoo bottle is identical to the conditioner bottle in every way apart from the fact that the word 'conditioner' is replaced with the word 'shampoo' and the instructions for use are slightly different.

*** The Shampoo ***

The shampoo itself is just a little bit thicker in consistency than water and dark brown in colour. As with the conditioner it has a light fragrance which I am afraid I can't describe as I can't place what it smells like! Sorry about that!

*** The Use ***

Obviously it is suggested that you use the shampoo and conditioner together for the best effects. The instructions for use are really simple - you are told to massage the shampoo into wet hair and rinse and repeat if necessary. I was happy enough with the ease of use and I didn't need to use too much; just a blob the size of 50p piece was plenty, although we do have soft water and I do have short hair! The shampoo lathered up well and rinsed out easily. Strangely even though the shampoo was a lot darker in colour than the conditioner, the conditioner than stains the water brown but the shampoo doesn't - weird eh?

*** The Result ***

The first time that I used the two products I felt that my hair was clean but not necessarily as soft as it might have been. As I continued to use the products I found that, with each use, my hair became softer and shinier and I definitely think that the colour has been enhanced.

*** In Conclusion ***

I was impressed with this conditioner at the price and I would be happy to buy it again. My hair is clean soft and the colour has been given a lift - for £1.29 a bottle what more can you ask?

By the way after using the shampoo the level in the bottle returns neatly to a nice straight line, but the conditioner, being thicker, does tend to stick around the inside of the bottle and looks a bit messy on the bathroom shelf if you're really picky!

Summary: A good colour booster at a good price.

I've got these and am not impressed with them. The mess the conditioner makes! The best henna shampoo and conditioner I've bought has been from ASDA.
