“ Brand: Boots / Type: Hair Mousse „
This is a styling mousse from the Boots Essentials range. The product claims to provide body and lift to the hair and also protect it from heat from styling. I was given this mousse as part of a Christmas gift and whilst I don't usually use mousse products I was excited to try it and have been using the product now and again since being given it.
The mousse is held within a pressurised container. The container is a metallic yellow colour and on the front is the name of the product whilst on the back is all the boring details like ingredients and directions of use etc. It also says on the back that there is 200ml of product. The lid to the product is see through plastic, this clicks away easily to reveal the push mechanism, a gentle press down on the button squirts out the liquid which quickly transforms into a foam when it contacts the hand or hair.
The product is currently available in Boots for £1.05.
I think this mousse is just "ok". It's a very smooth and soft product to the touch, it's airy as a mousse should be and isn't at all sticky. It smooths through my hair easily before/during styling on both damp and dry hair (I feel it performs best on damp hair) and I also find it has a fresh smell to it. Unfortunately though it doesn't give as much "oomph" as you would expect. When first styling and setting the hair there is a lot of bounce and the hair looks smooth too (it tames fly aways). However after 2-3 hours or so I find the bounce and volume that was originally there begins to disappear, this is usually if I have left the house, if I remain in doors for some reason the style tends to last longer but even then it doesn't have a great deal of longevity.
I've found this product is better for me when I'm curling my hair because my hair struggles to hold a curl however with this product in I feel it gives the hair more strength and texture whilst also making it smooth and I have been using the product for this reason only now on the odd occasion I curl my hair.
If you want a mousse to provide real long lasting volume then this isn't the product for you, it's quite disappointing in this sense but then I suppose for the price you can't expect much. However if you're just looking for a general styling mousse maybe to help tame and smooth hair or add some texture to curls etc then this could be the product for you. Overall it's an average 3 stars when taking into account the price and versatility of the product.
My hair is short at the moment and I tend to have it short for a while and then grow it, but as I am getting older I am finding it much easier to keep it shorter and I always use mousse and gels to give it a little body after I have blow dried it. I tend to not stick to one particular mousse and I saw this one in Boots for just £1 and bought it to give it a try on my hair because I had not tried this one before and it was a good price.
The one I am reviewing today light blue can. It is 200ml and it has a nozzle to dispense the mousse, the mousse has a really nice soft texture and the fragrance is very pleasant, it smells lovely. The quality is very good for the price. Once I have dispensed it onto the palm of my hand, I then sometimes use a comb to apply it into my hair and sometimes I just use my fingers and run them through my hair. This one does not feel so tacky on the hair after applying it as I have found some have in the past, but this one is fine. I pay extra attention to the roots of my hair so I have a better lift and sometimes I just place some on the roots. It really depends if I am staying at home or going out for the day or evening but either way applied I find this is one fine for my hair. My hair is quite thick and it suits it well.
Styling with this one is very good. It does not make my hair tangle while I am drying it, some mousse products for me tend to be too thick and make my hair pull while drying, and I have at times had to wash my hair and use a different one, but I found this is just right for my hair.
It really does hold my hair in place for quite some time, I often use Velcro rollers in my hair, when dry, just to give a little extra lift and I have used them after using this mousse and the hold has been very good, it is an excellent value for the price, I really like the way it also keeps the hold of the mousse on my hand before applying it, as some tend to fizzle before even hitting my hair, I really do not like those kind as they tend to make my hair feel greasy, and my hair does not suit those kind.
The one I am reviewing is a firm hold but it is also available in different strengths to suit every kind of hair type, I only want a less strength as my hair is very thick but for someone who has thinner hair etc a firmer hold is available.
It has been easily washed out of my hair, and it has not tangled while washing it out, it is fine and I have had no problems at all, it also does not feel sticky while on the hair, which is how I like it to be.
The volume it gives for my hair has been very good and I have been happy using this one, and the results it has given my hair, I have not tried the other holds as yet but will in the future, but this one is highly recommend as I think the quality and the price is just amazing. I will buy this again in the future.
I give this one 5 stars.
Thank you for reading my review.
This styling mousse is an absolute gem which shows that some of the best beauty buys can be a bargain.
The can itself is in hot pink with "styling mousse" printed up the side. All of the products in the Boots essentials range are in a different colour. I find that this helps if I am in a rush as I can just grab the product that I need without really having to look.
Other than that this is a typical can of styling mouse with a nozzle at the top from which the mousse squirts out. The nozzle is not too stiff so you will not find yourself pushing too hard and having a mousse explosion.
This mousse is very light and I like it as it does not weigh my hair down. This is very important if you have quite flat hair like mine and are trying to create more volume.
Another benefit of this product is that when it is in your hair it does not feel sticky, in fact it does not even look like it is there, leaving your hair looking very natural.
Due to the texture of the product it brushes out fairly easily however it does leave some traces which have to be washed out with shampoo. I personally would not rely on just brushing the mousse out, although visibly you cannot really see it it does leave your hair feeling quite dry.
The only way that I can describe the smell of this product is like shampoo. I know this is very vague but I find that most styling mousses smell fairly similar any way.
*Contains climate control properties which help to resist humidity and eliminate frizz
WHAT CAN I USE IT FOR
This particular styling mousse is for curls and waves so I tend to use it when I have curled my hair. If you squirt some into your hand, turn your head upside down and scrunch your curls they will last for a long time. When I do it they usually last 2 days. I just top of the mousse and give a little scrunch in the morning and I'm good to go. I think this shows how good this product is because my hair is flat as a pancake but with this my curly hair will stay.It would probably last longer but I don't like leaving my hair too long without washing it.
At only £1 for a 200 ml can this is an absolute bargain!
An excellent product with such a small price tag deserves 10 out of 10.

My hair is somewhat straight with a slight wave and kink to it, and sometimes I feel like having a more defined wave or very loose curl style to it, and I found the best way to achieve this look is to scrunch my hair with mousse.
I have tried many different brands and types of mousse in the past, and I have settled on Boots own brand styling mousse. I bought this from Boots (funnily enough!) for 99p and it comes in a hot pink can, with a clear lid and dispenser. The words styling mousse are written in big white letters on the can. At first I was dubious to how good the mousse would be, seeing as it was only 99p a can, but I was happy enough to give it a try.
I found the mousse to actually be the best one I have ever used. It has a nice, fresh smell to it, which is a lot better than most mousse's I have tried. The mousse comes out of the can really easily and just a tiny bit goes a long way, as it seems to expand forever. I found the mousse went into my hair really well, and it took no time at all to get the scrunched look I desired. I was really pleased with how my hair looked once I had dried it (with a diffuser attachment for extra wave) and I think my hair smells nice using this mousse too. My style stays put pretty well too, and has lasted some wild nights out and some very heavy days.
One problem I have had with mousse's in the past is a nightmare washing them out, but this washes out nice and easily with shampoo, and leaves no greasy or dry residues in the hair. I also found in the past that some mousse brands have left my hair very dry after use, but this is not a problem that occurs with Boots Styling Mousse.
I am pleased with how well a can lasts. My hair is quite thick and is currently 16 inches long, yet a can will last me about 10 scrunching sessions. For 99p, I really can not ask for more from a styling mousse and I honestly do not believe that anything better can be found for me. If you are an occasional user, this mousse is perfect as it has a 12 month shelf life after the first use, so you have no need to worry about it going to waste sitting on the shelf (or dresser, or in the bathroom)
I recommend this mousse to everyone, so pop into Boots and grab yourself a can, I do not think you will be disappointed. At 99p, it truly is a bargain and a brilliant product.
This product is called Boots styling mousse, and is made by Boots' own brand. The particular mousse I have is Boots Essential extra firm hold, and is in a thin tall purple container. It is supposedly meant to provide a firm hold upon hair so that it can be styled efficiently, as well as containing heat protecting elements so that less damage is caused through using straightening irons, curling irons or any other form of heat on your hair.
When I picked this up it was 99p. It is £1 currently, and deals are often put on these such as three for £2. This is an absolute bargain and one of the cheapest on the market.
There isn't a particular smell to this product as it simply just a mousse. It smells like hair salons...but in a good way. There is nothing disgusting about the smell, and this often puts people off buying products if the smell is awful.
***Where to buy***
As it is Boots own brand, you can only get them at their stores or on the website www.boots.com
***What I Thought***
I'd go as far as to say this is one of the worst products I have ever used. My hair is pretty average, can be styled easily and doesn't need much maintaining; this is why I chose to purchase a mousse, as it's a lazy way to style hair quickly every morning.
The product itself pumps a generous amount with each pump, and is easy to rub into the hair. I was very impressed with how it was styling my hair at first, but...
After only using a little in the roots of my hair, it became extremely sticky and felt horrible to touch and left my hair looking greasy. Not only this, but when I returned home at the end of the day, my hair looked awful. It looked more flat than it was at the start of the day, therefore showing that this product does not work, does not keep your hair styled, and certainly does not create volume! This may just be my experience with my hair as I have fairly flat, straight hair. This product does supposedly work better on curly, frizzy and afro style hair.
1/5, simply because the product is worthless, and isn't even worth the measly £1. Thanks for reading the review.
Like a lot of people I use hair mousse to add extra body to my hair as it is long but can be a bit lifeless as I wash it everyday.
The best value mousse I have found is 'Boots essential' range which is only 99p for a 200ml can.
Purple in colour this is a tall thin container which has enough frothy mousse once shook up to last me several months.
The write up says to shake well and squirt a golf ball sized amount into your hand and then rub through your hair - simple really.
This product is designed to protect against heat damage which my hair is as I blow dry then straighten it every day, plus it is easer to change your style with this mousse as it added extra body and hold than normally my long fine hair wouldn't have...
Boots essentials sells several varieties of this hair care mousse but I opt for the 'extra firm hold for maximum hold and volume', which smells rather pleasant and looks like whipped cream once you squirt it out or the top of the plastic nozzle at the top of the metal can.
Be careful as this can is pressurised so avoid high heats or piercing the can please :)
The write up on the back also says its non sticky which is true although you do have to wash you hands thoroughly after using it because of the chemical mixture, plus that it doesn't not hold the hair down with any heaviness of texture.
Again this is true as it is very light and fluffy but really does give added lift!
The white foam starts to work almost straight away, slightly setting before you blow dry or leave your locks to dry naturally.
I think it really works and is very good value for money - it can often be found on offer at two for £1.50 so you can stock up, or on 3 for 2 on Boots essential range.
Boots do a bigger can which is 400ml for only 60p more which is great :)
Four stars from me for a good quality mousse which works when generously applied, I like it!
Last weekend i eventually got around to perming my hair for the summer so had to go out and buy some mousse to hold my curls in all day and stop them turning to frizz by the end of the day.
Wholst looking at the mousses in boots i spotted that they make a mousse of there own, this is available in a range of holds but as i wanted mine to hold all day which is usually a long day i opted for the extra firm hold which comes in a purple metal tin with a spray nozzle on the top which is plastic and a plastic lid.
This mouse not only claims to be good for keeping your hair in style like i have brought it for but it also says that it protects from the damage of streightening your hair with heated tongs/ hairdryers etc so maybe this will be becoming a year round product for me.
The first thing i noticed about this mousse that i realy liked other than the price was that it wasnt sticky, it didnt make my hands sticky when applying it and my hair didnt feel sticky once it had been styled.
It drys to leave my hair hard which is exactly what i would have expected from an extra firm hold product but another surprise of mine was how easily it brushes out without me being in agony trying to get a brush through my hair and even more surprising i didnt get any white flakes left behind that made me look like i had dandruf.
This mousse can be used on wet or dry hair so will suite everyone, the can says to avoid contact with towels and clothing, i have no idea why but i get in such a mess when doing my hair it gets everywhere even in my carpets and i havent had any problems with it.
It can also be washed out of your hair very easily aswell which is another bonus as i have used products before where you have to wash your hair a few times to get them out, it leaves my hair shiny looking and in place all day which is what i needed and at only 99p a can i dont think i will beat that for value and quality no matter how hard i try.
I bought the Boots salon selectives styling mouse when it was on a 3 for 2 offer - it was a total waste of money! I bought the firm hold mouse that promised to hold my hair firmly without being sticky, flaky or drying to your hair! funny it did all of these except hold my hair! It's a very watery mousse that just made my hair all lank and floopy. When you first get it out of the container instead of it being all creamy and fluffy its just watery and frothy. I did think prehaps it was this container so I did try the others - they were all the same! The only good thing I can say about it is that it does not contain CFC's!!
