Advantages: Works well and is gente to the hair and scalp

Disadvantages: Smell mainly

When it comes to hairspray I've never been a huge fan of the stuff. However I've had my hair cut into a jaw length bob type style and with fine hair it's hard to tie it up or pile it up or whatever and make it look tidy and I need to cos I'm a regular gym goer and like my hair to be off my face type of thing.

I have my favourite couple of bottles of hairspray I know I can rely on but they are rather expensive to use daily so I raided my Mums collection of hair products recently. Now my Mother has used this for years and she swears by it. She's tried some far more expensive offerings than this over the years but has converted back to this and I spotted when I nabbed this to use that she has three full cans of the stuff! Shes addicted I'm telling you lol....

I decided to give this a go because as my Mum swears by it in my mind it must be ok but also at 99p a can (in a lot of independent type of chemists) it would work out economical for me to use on a day to day basis.

The Packaging....

300ml dark pink can with a plastic pull on/off lid to the top of it in the same colour scheme covering a white push, aerosol button. On the front of the can there is a picture of a woman and all in white writing I'm told it is Bristow 'Conditioning Hold' Hairspray and that it 'Holds and conditions permed, coloured or dry hair'. On the back of the can I'm told a bit about the product, given directions for use, ingredients are listed as are contact details for Lornamead (the manufacturers of the product), size and the recycle symbol are displayed and finally there is bar-code on it. It's an ok and informative looking can, easy to use etc but does look a little on the cheap side and quite a bit old fashioned!

A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Can....

Bristow Conditioning Hold hairspray holds and conditions permed, coloured or dry hair.
Leaves your hair beautifully manageable and soft to the touch.
Leaves no sticky residue.
Brushes out easily.

Directions For Use....

For best results hold the can about 20 cm from your hair, spraying lightly and evenly shielding eyes.

Me using It....

Well of course I use this on my finished style. This sprays out rather wet as in you can see it on the hair even if using it as directed and at 20 cm away from the hair. You can let it dry or gently smooth it onto the hair with your hand which does of course get your hand a little sticky but that feeling does wear off quickly if your not able to wash them type of thing.

It has a really odd, old fashioned smell to it which to be fair I did expect from the look of the packaging so it was of no surprise to me but it isn't foul or anything it just smells in-distinctive like one used in a granny salon! However that smell is fresh enough and it does wear off after about an hour or so anyway.

The results using this are rather good to be fair to it. It dries into the hair fast and isn't sticky at all once dried in. It makes hair glossy and smooth looking and easy to control. If you have fly-away hair or broken hairs this makes it easier to integrate all your hair into style, into place and stay there without looking dull and/or gunked up.

As I mentioned earlier my hair is quite short so to shove it in a pony tail takes a band of course but hairgrips as well and a usually a fair old amount of hairspray. With this I found I didn't need too much at all and hair although smelt a bit odd at first did look good and even when in a hot, sweaty gym and pounding the treadmill for half an hour and stuff my style stayed rather i place.

Overall....

A really good economical hairspray aside from the smell of it. It gives a great hold considering that it also gently hydrates and conditions the hair is as promised and it's easy to brush/comb out and to wash out leaving no heavy residue behind. This stuff certainly hasn't hurt my hair in any way shape or form and for me I like this for day to day use! Shame about the smell but you can't have it all! lol.

Summary: A good every-day type of hairspray
