Advantages: smells lovely, works well with my hair, easy to purchase
Disadvantages: There are not any
Every once in a while I like to use a hair treatment on my hair. Everyday I use my GHD hair straighteners with a straightening balm or lotion to ensure it is poker straight and all of the styling and creams I use takes it toll on my hair, often leaving it dry with a straw like feel and I hate the thought of split ends, so anything I can do to repair damage I am willing to do.
My stylist recommended that I use a treatment at least once a week especially with my heavy GHD use and although he didn't recommend anything in particular I decided to try one my sister had been quite taken with and that is Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Hair Treatment which I found in my local pharmacy retailing at £11.49 for a 123g tube. The tube itself has an easy screw on and off lid and is a bright yellow colour with the Burt's Bee logo and a picture of an avocado. The reason why I decided to try it was for its main selling point which is "A deep and penetrating treatment that will remoisturise, condition and protect the hair" which is definitely what my hair is in need of at this moment in time and I am more than happy to pay the price for trying it, my usual pre-wash treatment is usually double the price, so I have made a saving.
As this is a pre-wash conditioner it has to be used before you wash and condition your hair or whatever you do as part of your hair care routine. You will need to have wet hair to use this and when I use it, I always ensure my hair is wet but I towel dry off any excess water so that it isn't dripping everything and then squeezing the tube into the palm of my hand, ensuring there is a generous amount of this cream, I then massage it into my scalp, working from the root, right down to the tip and then using a comb, I comb my hair through. This ensures that there has been an equal covering of the treatment on my hair. Once this has been done the cream should be left on your hair for 15 to 20 minutes, so I tend not to be sat in the bath or running the shower, it is ample time to do whatever else you need to do within your beauty regime for example I usually have a face mask on at the same time. Once the allotted time is up, you simply wash it out using warm water and as you wash it out re-massage your scalp to give it that extra boost. This product does wash out of your hair very easily leaving behind no residue. Then you carry on with your hair care routine as you usually would do.
The one thing I love about this product is how it leaves my hair feeling after using. The second I wash it out of my hair I can immediately feel a difference to the touch and feel of my hair. It is much softer and shinier than it was prior to using this treatment and once my hair is totally dry the fly-away bits of hair are no longer in sight and what I have instead is a lovely, soft mane of hair which is easier to style and maintain. The cream within this tube is quite thick in texture, so you don't need to use a lot at any given time. My hair is comes past my shoulders in length and I only use an amount similar to that of a plum to give a comparable size and I find that is an ample amount to use.
How does it work? Well the main ingredient is avocado oil which derives from the avocado fruit and is rich in vitamins A, C and E and the avocado and stimulate the scalp and this in turn helps stop hair loss and encourage hair growth. So all of these ingredients together turn my hair from a dry matted mess into a shining mane of blonde hair.
Having used this treatment for the last three months I have to admit I am slightly biased when it comes to recommending it to people. I simply love it. It is designed to be used weekly and because of that my tube is still over half full and I am tempted to use it every time I wash my hair because I love how it makes my hair look and feel. Once I have used this on my hair it looks good for a few days afterwards and it smells wonderful of avocados with a slight almond twist and it is simply lovely because the smell of my shampoo is masked by the treatment. Also whilst I have been using it, I haven't felt the need to use a separate conditioner or any type of conditioner at all because my hair simply doesn't need it like it did, it gets everything it needs from this product and to buy it for only £11 for me is an absolute bargain and it will remain on my favourite products list for a long time to come.
Summary: A wonderful avocado based pre wash hair treatment
