Advantages: smells nice

Disadvantages: feels horrible

I'm always fairly wary of solid shampoos as I worry about how to store them between applications, and also I find them quite difficult to apply.
The rosemary and mint shampoo bar is wrapped in two layers of waxed paper, and looks just like a slab of chocolate when you peel away the layers. It does look almost good enough to eat, but a strong scent of mint would soon put you off as it doesn't smell like minted chocolate.

A solid shampoo is designed to be applied to wet hair, much like a bar of soap. The rubbing action will create the bubbles which will wash your hair when you massage it into your scalp.
There were no actual instructions on the packaging for this, but I have used solid shampoo bars in the past so recalled the instructions from them.
I began the process of washing my hair by making sure my hair was wet through. Opening the package I tried to remember how it was wrapped so I could put it back together again afterwards. The bar immediately started to foam up very subtly under my wet hands.
I chose to rub it between my hands to start with to get the lather started. I discovered that it didn't create much lather and did need to be worked well.
After this didn't get me anywhere I decided to rub the bar over my head. After about a minute of constant rubbing, I placed the bar down and used my hands to massage my hair and see if I had enough lather on my head.

I was surprised that in fact it did act like a proper shampoo and my hair had enough product on it to be able to get a good lather going as I massaged it into my scalp and ends.
I'm not a fan of soap products at the best of times as I don't like the way they make my skin feel when it squeaks as you run your hands over it.
This shampoo really did squeak as I put my hands over it. It felt horrible, like I hadn't washed my hair properly. I was almost tempted to put a liquid shampoo on again just to make it feel better. I resisted however and left it to see what it would feel like when dry.

I'm happy to report that when dry my hair felt a lot better. It smelled subtly of mint, but there was no hint of rosemary at all.
After thinking my first experience was a one off I decided to repeat the process a few days later, and this time I applied much more of that shampoo bar to see if that made any difference. Sadly it didn't make my hair feel any better after applying.

The shampoo bar itself did keep well in the original packaging. By leaving to air dry before re wrapping for a few minutes, the bar almost goes back to looking like new with just a few traces of dried white lather.
I believe this bar will last you a long time as you don't seem to use a lot with each application despite vigorously rubbing over the scalp for what feels like ages. For this reason you will get value for money with this shampoo bar if you like solid shampoos.

According to the Burts Bees website this shampoo bar is suitable for short to medium length hair and is 99.9% natural.
The shampoo bar would cost you £6.99 if you chose to buy it. This was a onetime purchase for me and it won't be repeated.

Summary: not for me
