Advantages: 98.8% natural, makes hair shiny, nice smelling and soft.
Disadvantages: A little pricey and hard to find in stores, easily found on the internet though.
In my quest to keep everything in my life natural and healthy, I descovered this brilliant shampoo. Having been a massive fan of Burt's Bees products for many years, I am always looking out for new items to add to my collection and this one is certainly another one well worth the recommendation.
Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet Shampoo is brilliant if you want to stick two fingers up at animal tested products that are loaded with hair stripping chemicals and still have great luscious sexy looking/smelling hair! Long gone are the Spastic Societies Egg Shampoos and grandma's Beer and Fairy Liquid home remedy, our ethical troubles are over.
This shampoo is 98.8% natural (according to the bottle) and contains lots od delicous ingredients like; soybean protein (which helps to strengthen hair), honey (would have to consider it is made by Burt's Bees), Orange Peel Oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract (this is the new best thing on the block in terms of health harmonizing products, grapefruit oil is both stimulating to the system and toning on the skin), Lime Oil, Ginger root Extracts and many other lovely hair strengthening ingredients.
This shampoo smells edible (warning that of course it isn't edible!) like some kind of coconutty, sweet muffin smell. It's very hard to describe but it does make me swoon every time I wash my hair. One of those moments when you close your eyes and inhale. The actual shampoo comes out very thick and foams easily with a small amount covering my very long hair. As you later it into your hair, it really is gentle on your scalp, eyes and skin as you rinse it off. Once it is washed out your hair is left feeling clean and shiny and the shine (even on thick dark hair like mine) is really very noticable once it is dried fully. I have always wanted to have thick shiny hair like my Chinese friend and this shampoo helps my hair to look nearly as good as hers. More importantly than how it makes your hair look, the really noticable and lasting thing is how soft and tangle free this shampoo makes your hair feel. I really can't stop touching my hair and I am all the happier for knowing it isn't bad for my hair, skin nor aquatic life!
Apparently, the science of this shampoo is all in the wonder of nature. The Sugar Beet and Soyprotein work together to repair damaged hair roots and follicles. The citrus and honey extracts and oils are what give it that lovely smooth and soft feeling and shine.
The only thing I must warn about this shampoo is that when you first use it, your hair goes through a slight detox period. For the first 2 or 3 times you use it your hair may feel a little wild, as mine did, but once your hair has got over the initial shock of ridding itself of chemicals, it will be in the be lovely and shiny soft with a great smell and I imagine you will be as happy as I am with this shampoo.
At 12 fluid oz for £11 this is a little more expensive than some shampoo's but I don't think this is unheard of as women I know spend more than £20 on something totally packed with chemicals and nasties from their local hairdressers. I have long hair easily reaching passed my shoulder blades (and also very thick), this shampoo normally lasts me easily around a month of 3 or so washes per week.
Summary: Easily one of my favourite shampoos for shiny and soft hair.
