I use household name shampoos and have been blessed with very normal hair so can but most brands when they are on offer and know they'll suit my hair. I received my bottle of Super Shiny Mango Shampoo in a gift set and was interested to try it as I use a shine spray and thought this may help me lose a step in my hair care routine.
You use it as normal and apply to wet hair, lathering the shampoo and rinsing.
It does not produce as thick a lather as expected for the high cost of the shampoo but cleaned my hair thoroughly in spite of washing only once and not repeated as suggested by Burts Bees.
The smell is nice but has a very synthetic mango fragrance that seems too strong at times. It is a very sweet fragrance and you will need to like the smell of mango to enjoy it.
My hair is left very tangled after using this shampoo even after using conditioner. It is also drying if used regularly although can make my roots appear greasy. There is very little added shine to my hair and the cleansing effects are short lived with me being required to wash my hair again the following day, that is very unusual for me as my hair ordinarily needs washing only every 2 - 3 days.
Rinsing is harder than with other shampoo and often I felt it had not all been removed in spite of rinsing for longer than I usually would. Luckily the synthetic mango fragrance is removed quickly upon rinsing as I would not like my hair to smell like this through the day.
This shampoo is 99.7% natural but that doesn't stop the list of ingredients reading like a who's who of the chemical world. The most active ingredients are mango seed oil and extract of fig.
£9.99 per 200ml bottle is too much to pay for this shampoo. It is effective in the short term but the lasting result is greasy unhealthy hair with no added shine or benefits.
WHAT IS IT?
Shampoo that is made by Burt's Bees.
WHAT I THINK
The only good thing about this shampoo is the smell because it is very rich and smells of mango. The smell is very fruity and I like the way that the smell lasts in my hair for a long time after I have washed it.
I was sent bottles of this shampoo and conditioner from a magazine I write for. I have used Burt's Bees products many times before but was very disappointed with this shampoo because it did not clean my hair very well and made it look dull instead of shiny like it promised me on the bottle.
I could not get very many bubbles out of this shampoo even though I tried for a long time and the bubbles that was on my hair were very weak and thin. I thought something was wrong because the shampoo did not feel sticky but it turned sticky when I was rubbing it into my hair, my husband said the same thing and he made a joke about it feeling like it had real honey in it.
It took me a very long time to rinse the shampoo out of my hair and when I was rinsing it I could feel my hair keeping that sticky feeling and it went all tangled up into big tangles that I could feel even when my hair was wet. I used conditioner after but that did not help and my blond hair looked like straw because it was very dry and frizzed.
I do not like this shampoo and I have written to Burt's Bees about it being very bad quality and not what I would have expected because their skin care products are so good. I think they do not know as much about hair as they do about skin.
My hair did not feel clean at all after I had used it and the shampoo left it feeling sticky and that was not pleasing so I did not feel like I had washed my hair at all.
Burt's Bees Super Shiny Mango shampoo costs about £7 for a bottle and I am shocked about that because it is very bad quality and I would not pay that but I would never use it again any way.
1 Dooyoo Star.
I usually buy shampoos form the TIGI range when I can but recently I fancied a break from the norm and wanted to give something else a try to see if I was missing out. A couple of my friends had highly recommended the Burt's Bees range to me, stating that they had been really pleased with the effects on their hair. I decided to give the range a go and, with no particular product/fragrance in mind, I decided to browse online and see what was available. After reading through the reviews online I opted for this Super Shiny Mango shampoo. The reviews were good and it was a fragrance that appealed to me as I love fruity scents. I purchased this online for £8.50 for a bottle of 295ml.
The shampoo comes in a round plastic bottle which is yellow in colour. The product labelling is basic, with a picture of a cut mango on the front. The lid pushes down at the back to 'flip up' at the front and the shampoo can be squeezed out through here. As soon as the top flips open, you are hit with a really strong, refreshing mango scent - it is almost citrus/orangey. It certainly smells edible and fresh without being over strong or sickly. I loved the scent instantly and hoped that the shampoo lived up to my expectations as I felt this could be a keeper!
The shampoo is really quite runny. I am certainly used to thicker shampoos and this was far too watery for my liking. I was not expecting this at all, so most of the first squirt that I took slipped completely off my hand and into the water. After this, I learnt to cup my hand more when applying - hardly the most convenient of applications! The shampoo is clear and a bright orange in colour. On applying, I really struggled to get this to foam up very much and, as a result, I ended up using about three times as much shampoo as I normally would just to make sure that all of my hair was thoroughly washed. This meant that I got through a bottle very quickly and, as it is not the cheapest of shampoos, I was very disappointed with this.
I also found it hard to make sure this was completely rinsed from my hair. Despite careful, and lengthy, rinsing, my hair was sometimes left feeling sticky after using this. The underside of my hair even felt greasy and unwashed at times almost straight after washing. However, I will say that the shampoo did help to give my hair some shine and to keep it soft.
Overall, this was a massive disappointment to me. I have used much cheaper shampoos and had better results. Apart from the lovely scent, this really does not have anything to offer - it is too runny, doesn't lather well and leaves hair feeling sticky or unwashed. Definitely not what I want from a shampoo and not what I would have expected for the price I paid. My friends were surprised at my experience but had not tried this particular scent - I will not be trying any others to see if it is just this one though! Think I'll stick to what I know for now.....
