“ Brand: Charles Worthington / Sprays / Type: Hair Spray / What it does: Protects „
Now, it's taken me nigh on 24 years, but I'm pretty damn sure that my life long search for the perfect (or even, semi decent) hairspray is over.
I've never really been a massive fan of CW products, no real reason, I guess I just didn't think they were cool enough for me to use... (there's that snobbery, again...). My mum actually cought me a Dream Hair set for the christmas before last, containing the shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, and serum. As soon as I realised that my hair didn't like the shampoo, I wrote the whole lot off, and it wasn't until about a year or so later that I discovered the forgotten and unwanted hairspray.
As I was working in beauty retail at the time, I used to buy new hairsprays regularly, as soon as a new one was released, it found it's way into my house. It was only when I was going through a poor patch (one too many new pairs of shoes before payday, probably...) that I deciede to be clever, and frugal, and use what I already had.
It was only then that I realised that I had been missing out on perfection all along. I'm a very visual person, and I liked that this spray looked good on my dressing table. I also liked the smell, despite being very 'hair product-y', as opposed to many other brands of hairspray that make an effort with their scent. Obviously Charles knows that he doesn't need to win you over with the scent, the spray does all the talking.
For performance, I'm really impressed. It is indeed fine, but still gives you a good hold. I would say it was more of a natural hold, in appearance at least. It certainly doesn't look like you have used hairspray, which is the best result, as far as I'm concerned. I often use quite a few layers before going out, but only because I have an unhealthy obsession with my fringe, and need it to stay put at all times. Normal people probably wouldn't need to put that much on...
But nevertheless, no matter how much I apply, my hair never looks sticky, and never clumps. It doesn't look like you have used anything, yet stays put beautifully, while still maintaining some natural movement. No lego hair, which is a plus!
I don't remember exactly how much I paid, last time I really stocked up, so it's been a while! It's usually around £5-£6 though for a 500ml can. Well worth the expense, in my view!
The Dream Hair collection offers a high quality product that I found gives a "salon finish" at a more affordable price. The product not only smells great (It's amazing - It is quite a citrusy smell) but gives me a strong finish that also feels smooth to the touch and does not look like you are wearing hairspray.
The product claims to be enriched with "pearl & silk extracts", which having asked my hairdresser last time I was there means that it creates a shine to your hair and helps to protect it from everyday exposure.
The product comes in an attractive purple can (In line with the rest of the range) with golden designs making it attractive alternative to its store shelve companions.
If you are looking for a good quality finishing product to everyday styling then I would recommend the Fine Hairspray as it is great for stopping flyaway hairs and is soft to the touch, I did however find that after perhaps a few too many hours partying the style started to drop.
The main drawback with this product though is the price - the spray comes in a 200ml size can and I have found there are definitely products available at much cheaper prices that provide the same effect. If you have a voucher or there is an offer it makes a great luxurious alternative and it does last for a long time.
What is it?
Charles Worthington is a renound hair dresser who has a few different lines of hair care products such as Dream Hair and Salon Shine Results. This product is a 'Sublime Style Super-Fine Hair Spray' from the Dream Hair range.
It retails in Boots for £5.49 for a 200ml tin or can sometimes be found in Home Bargains for £1.99! It comes in a lilac chunky tin with a silver leafy floral design. It's quite an attractive product but the words 'dream hair' is probably the biggest selling point as it promises what every girl wants!
This spray claims to 'gently control all day long, while helping to protect against the effects of sun and humidity.' It also states your finished style will be 'soft to the touch, flexible and super shiny'.
What else could you want from a hair spray? As a girl with very fine hair, it's nearly impossible to create a style that lasts the day so I was very intrigued by this product. I hate how some hair sprays feel sticky, solid and weighed down. I want a product which works but feels natural and almost invisible.
How to use
Spray over your finished style for a 'delicate, lasting hold'. It doesn't state how far away to spray from but using common sense I usually hold the can about 20cm away from my head so it sprays on evenly and doesn't clog your hair.
As I bought this for £1.99 I thought it was extremly good value. I don't think I'd pay full price for this hairspray as it's a bit expensive. It does have a really nice designed bottled and I liked the subtle scent which is the same as all dream hair, hard to describe, but almost perfumed but very stylish and sophisticated. However you do still get the overpowering scent of hair spray which I've always hated.
It went on my hair very easily and felt quite lightweight. It stayed on quite well and felt very nice, not sticky or heavy however you can feel it in your hair.
Its been one of the nicest hair sprays I've used but I am still searching for that long last and natural feeling. Its could if you get it discounted but not worth the full price. Its best for natural styles rather than holdiong up crazy hair.
With fine hair like mine and the amount of time it takes me to achieve a semi-decent hair do to be seen with I really do like to use hairspray. However I am incredibly fussy! Sure I want to 'set' my hair somewhat but still, I'm awkward and I still want my hair to feel somewhat natural and not heavy, sticky or full of gunk or anything of course. Getting a hairspray to meet my picky requirements is difficult hence why I aways end up buying a bottle or can of something and use it once or twice and throwing it in the bin more often than not! However I saw this can in Boots priced at £5.49 and with it called 'Dream Hair' I decided it had to be worth a go!
200ml lilac, shimmery can with matching plastic lid covering a gold coloured plastic push button dispenser to the top of it. On the front in gold and purple writing I'm told it's Charles Worthington Dream Hair Sublime Style Super-Fine Hairspray 'Enriched with pearl & silk extracts'. There is a gold drawn on pattern of flowers and the size is stated (as I've listed already) on the bottom of the can. On the back of the can (all in purple writing this time) I'm told a bit about the product and given directions for use, ingredients and contact details for Charles Worthington are given, cautions and warnings are listed and the aluminium symbol is displayed and finally there is a bar-code on there. Very nice, expensive packaging..this is. It looks classy and is nice to stick on display (if desired) in your home!
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Can....
Sublime Style Super-Fine Hairspray gently controls all day long, while helping to protect against humidity. Your finished style is soft to the touch, flexible and super-shiny.
The Dream Hair Collection marries superior performance with exquisite indulgence helping you to achieve the condition and style of your dreams. These pampering hair treats are scented with a unique, sophisticated fragrance and enriched with a blend of pearl and silk extracts, known to add natural moisture to the hair.
Directions For Use....
Spray over finished style for delicate, lasting hold. For best results, use with your favourite Dream Hair products.
Well of course I use it as directed and spray on my finished style. It sprays out of the can cool and mist like and is very easy to direct at sections or to simply coat the hair (as I do in the main) just hold it at arms length and spray away.
Smell wise well it has a weird aroma to it really. I was expecting something rather nice and whilst this isn't awful on the fragrance front it really isn't anything special. I can't really explain what it smells of but it is quite faint and to me a little minty and sweet. It's simply ok but once on the hair the smell fades away pretty quickly anyway making this suitable for men or women to use.
You don't need to spray much to 'set' your do. It's a light mist as promised and it gently coats the hair not only setting it into style in a very natural and flexible light way but also gives hair a beautiful shine as well. Hair doesn't feel sticky, you can comb it out at any time but it takes control gently while on the hair. It's great for settling down broken hairs (I get lot at my scalp) and if you have eradicated frizz through styling then this really makes sure it won't be putting in an appearance. Humidity doesn't effect it though of course like with most hairsprays you don't want to be in gale force wind or torrential rain still lol!
Basically it's a very hard working hairspray that remains gentle and kind to the hair and with this on my hair it doesn't weigh it down in any way shape or form. I simply can't tell I'm wearing it apart from the fact hair stays in place, looks glossy and feels smooth and fresh.
Of course as I mentioned earlier you can with this direct it at sections of your hair which is great as it means I can target hair lacking a bit of volume with ease and create some. This is great for grabbing sections of my dry hair and spraying liberally and then lifting with a barrel brush and gently blow drying it to give it lift and to make my layers look renewed. Also it's great for spraying onto my hair and then putting a couple of big rollers in (again to give root lift). Not only does it do the jobs I want it to do with ease it also gives me piece of mind as it actually does the job... and for hours.
It's easy to comb or wash out, works on complicated styles and is simply a really great easy to use and wear hairspray worth every one of it's pennies!
I got mine in Boots but it is readily available in a wide variety of chemists and supermarkets!
