Advantages: Price, Smell, Softness, Managablity, Moisturizing, Volume
Disadvantages: Bottle Pump
For a woman, Shampoo and Conditioners can be like opium to our hair. We search through the mass conglomerate type shopping centers advertising something new and improved that will fulfill our quest for the perfect hair drug. Yet that "high" seems to elude us, so we're forced to spend countless more hours and pounds on this addiction.
I know this from personal experience since I've spent the Gross National Product of a small country just on hair products. Suffice to say, finding our own Private Hair Idaho is extremely difficult not to mention expensive. I'll give you an example...
When my parents were living in France my mother decided to go to an ultra posh hair salon in Paris. Now to be fair, I think most women would have done the same unless we were absolutely flat out broke. In fact I would wager a guess that most women would spend their last pence to have their hair done in Paris, right?
Well, after her hair was finished, and looked magnificique, she was coerced into buying a very small bottle of Shampoo. It was probably about 250ml and would only last through about 10 hair washings. Apparently, this shampoo was so unique in that once used, you rarely needed to apply Conditioner afterwards. And, it was true. My mother let me try it and sure enough, it was the real drug. A 50 Pound drug (which translates to about 5 pounds for each time you wash you hair).
Now, while I was impressed with how my hair looked and felt afterwards with the Frenchie Shampoo I was not about to go out and spend five pounds each time to wash my hair. I wash my hair every day so that would equal 1825 pounds a year. Thats enough to buy me several very nice wigs, or a slightly beat up car, or two roundtrip tickets back to the United States!
My issue now was....find a shampoo like this one, but pay around five pounds a BOTTLE instead. After another several months of failed experiments, I finally came across....Dream Hair.
The name itself makes you want to roll your eyes and walk past it. No one could possibly get dream hair for five pounds. I'm going to surprise you though and tell you it's true. Dream hair is the ultimate hair heroin for me (and several of my friends now that i've forced them to buy it on the bet that if they didn't like it, i'd buy it off them).
Before I go into why this stuff is going to be your new favorite -life saving-earth shaking- mind quaking, Shampoo, let me defend it from this first reviewer on this site. Appparently he/she didn't like the stuff. Which seems ludicrious to me, but everyone is entitled to their own (false) opinions. Every thing that was mentioned about this shampoo was in reality completely the opposite. Maybe he/she didn't try it? Or maybe they got a really old bottle? Or maybe they got it at a boot sale, and the person used up all of it and refilled it with some cheap stuff from the Pound store? I have no clue, but I also have no clue why anyone would not thing this stuff is wonderful. I'll explain why....
1.) The Smell:
This isn't a top 10 here so the smell isn't the most important thing about the Shampoo, but it is a massive plus. I am sort of a smell snob. I freely admit that. For me to really like the smell of a perfume, soap, or hair product means that it's a universally liked smell, which is rare. Try to walk down the street after you wash your hair with this stuff. Everyone will sniff at you in appreciation or make some comment in passing about how good you smell (especially men).
Everytime I use this, as soon as I go into work I get at least 2 people that talk about the smell of this. At first, everyone thought it was perfume I was wearing. Of course, many times you can't smell your shampoo "on yourself" unless you put your hair right up to your nose. You can imagine my confusion when dozens of people came up to me and said " Wow I love your perfume" or " You smell good" or " Where did you get that perfume your wearing", when I hardly ever WEAR perfume.
It's hands down the best smelling shampoo i've ever come across in my thousands upon thousands of shampoo bottles i've sniffed or used in my lifetime. I've not met one person who has told me they don't "love" the smell of this.
2.) Cost:
You can buy this at Boots for around 5 quid. Pretty unbeliveable for how salon like this shampoo is (better than salon in fact). My friend who works at Toni and Guy bought this and prefers it over all their shampoo's and even recommends it to her clients if they can't afford to buy anything from her.
3.) Hair Volume:
I have somewhat "fine" hair but a LOT of it. So my problem is that after shampooing (if I don't condition) it holds some volume for about a few hours, then flattens and feels very dry on top of the flatness.
This shampoo not only keeps your volume during the entire day, but when you wake up the next day it still holds most of that volume and in a way, even looks better than the first day. I've tried for YEARS to find some type (any) hair product that will give me volume in the right amounts without feeling brittle or greasy. Finally I've been given something that's very "Goldilocks" just right.
4.) Softness:
Men love soft hair. Who wouldn't? Men of course love it for other reasons, but women love it because of it's appearance more than the feel. Soft hair just looks healthy. Plus, it's easy to style and manage.
After I blowdry my hair using this Dream Hair Shampoo, it looks like I just had a deep conditioning treatment, mixed with some of that smoothing cream they use at Salons. To have ONLY a Shampoo do that is impressive to say the least.
5.) Moisturizing:
I won't come right out and say you can get away with ONLY using this and not the Conditioner that goes with it. BUT.....I will say that you can use this at least 3 or 4 times in a row without needing any Conditioner (Unless you colour your hair).
I've stopped colouring my hair for 2 years now and thankfully have pretty stress-free hair sense I only blowdry it about 2 times a week. I've been blessed with naturally wavy hair that looks just as good dried naturally as it does blow dried. I'll admit that the reason I may be able to get away with ONLY using this shampoo for several washes without a conditioner, might be because of the non-colour and light blowdrying use.
Regardless, this is the only shampoo i've been able to do this with. Even after a year of non-colour and rare blow-drying with other shampoo's I ALWAYS needed a conditioner after ever wash. If I didn't my hair would feel like straw. If your like me, you'll be able to do the same thing. If you colour your hair and blow dry or straighten it every day, I'd say you could probably get away with not conditioning using this Shampoo about every other wash.
Final Comments:
There is nothing about this Shampoo I don't like other than the pump that goes with the bottle. It doesn't come out very well. I simply just unscrew the pump and use it directly from the bottle itself. So, it's not really a big deal.
I also found this in the States when I was visiting for a few months with my family. It was at a store called Sephora and sold for around $20.00, so how it's more expensive in the states versus in the U.K. i'm not sure, but i'm still happy nonetheless.
I'll extend to you the same bet I gave my friends and co-workers. If you don't like this , or feel that it doesn't work on your hair, send it too me in the mail and I'll pay you for it. (I'm not just saying that! I want to stock up on this stuff if for some ungodly reason they every stop carrying it).
Summary: A Shampoo that WILL ADDICT you.
