Advantages: moisturises without weighing down, makes hair look great, good price
Disadvantages: i don't know...it doesn't cuddle you when you're sad?
I don't know about you, but the cold winter weather is making my hair very parched. Though really, when I think about it, almost every kind of weather seems to have a negative effect on my tresses; rain = frizz; sun = dry; wind = 80s rockstar (whether this is a negative result of bad weather is debatable though)
So, yes. My hair has been very dry lately, despite me slathering conditioner on. Hell, I even tried mixing a bit of Extra Virgin Olive Oil in with my conditioner and still my hair wept. That was until the other day, when I remembered that I received a new Charles Worthington conditioner in my stocking at Christmas time. Not only was it a new conditioner that I hadn't tried yet (squee!), it had MINERAL HAIR SPA in the title which just screams of luxurious pampering. I applaud the person who came up with the product name, because it certainly brainwashed me into thinking the conditioner would be brilliant before I'd even stepped into the shower.
However, quite unusually for a conditioner (in my experience anyway) it actually lives up to its name. This conditioner is a dream. Now, I am very picky about conditioners: I even think that Aussie's 3 minute miracle conditioner is a bad 4 lettered word beginning with S. But Charles Worthington's Mineral Hair Spa truly left my hair feeling silky and lookng salon-shiny.
The instructions on the back of the bottle informed me to shampoo my hair, squeeze out excess water, then put the conditioner on for 3-4 mins for a "pick me up", or 10 mins for a more "indulgent treat". I don't have a clock in my bathroom, but I generally leave the conditioner on for about 5 minutes as I usually don't have the time to stand about waiting in the shower. I always spend a couple of minutes rinsing so that there's no residue left over.
After blow-drying my hair when it's been conditioned with this conditioner, I feel fabulous. I have fine hair (but lots of it) but this conditioner doesn't weigh it down at all, and allows for lots of movement- perfect for me as I like to have some volume. The scent is your typical conditioner smell; quite pleasant, but doesn't smell of anything in particular, just a girly hair product smell.
This conditioner calls itself a "rescue treatment" so it is ideal for anyone with particularly dry or colour treated hair. This title suggests that it is a once weekly kind of conditioner, but I've been using it 2-3 times a week and I think it's fine for that amount of use.
I've checked on the Boots website and they're currently stocking this for £3.58, though usually it is £5.37. You get 200ml in a long tube, so I think this is a great price, especially since you don't need to use a lot of it to get results (a 50p sized blob is fine). Although it is slightly more expensive than other high street brand conditioners, it is definitely worth the extra pound or so, considering it out-performs the high end conditioners I've tried which are double the price.
I'll tell you a little bit about the packaging (this is the part I always find tedious about a review but there you go): it's a bright turquoise colour shaped like a long rectangle. The bottle stands on its lid, making it easier to squeeze out every last drop of the product. The lid flips open and closed and is nice and compact. Instructions for use and ingredients are on the back.
If you are looking for a good treatment for your hair, I highly recommend this. It's worth the price and it produces results. Have only given it four out of five because I am an absolute perfectionist and it isn't quite as good as my ultimate favourite conditioner which, at £25, I currently cannot afford (Kerastase Satin Bain).
Summary: A conditioner which actually conditions.

- 07/01/09 Bizarrely enough, my hair seems to LIKE the cold weather. It looks quite healthy at the moment. Not sure why I'm telling you that, as clearly, it's of no interest to you, but there you go. |
