Clairol Herbal Essences

Dry & Damaged Shampoo range

Clairol's was first established 1931 by a chemist and his wife. The name of the company was taken a hair-coloring preparation the couple found while traveling in Europe. By 1950, Clairol became a household name and now an international product with a vast range of hair product, made even more famous by the catchphrase, "Does she...or doesn't she? Only her hairdresser knows for sure."
As I have mentioned in another review about a conditioner I have highlights in my hair and am now being classed as 'middle aged' I have noticed my hair needs a very good shampoo & conditioner to keep the smooth, silky feeling and shine to it.
So when I noticed this range of Herbal Essences shampoo in my local supermarket I decided to give it a go. I brought it with the dry / damaged conditioner that is recommended as its partner.

The Bottle
***********
The product was the 250ml size in a transparent bottle. The shampoo has a picture of light pink Rose hip flowers on the back which can be seen through shampoo. This is a good idea from the advertising companies idea to draw you attention to the 'rose hip' extract that is meant to be within the ingredients. The other ingredients listed on the front of the bottle are; jojoba and vitamin E

The Ingredient
*****************
Aqua, sodium laureth sulphate, sodium chloride, Edylhexyl, Methoxycinnamarte, DMDM Hydanton, Disodium EDRA, TEA - Dodecylbenzensulfonate, rosa canina, Propylene glycol, BHT, Silica, , Polysorbate 60.....

I have just realised and gone back into my review on the Conditioner to realise that many of the ingredients are the same!! Well no surprise there really - most of these products are all the same stuff with a few selective items. It is the choice of these items and quanities / ratio used that separates the shampoos from the conditioners and their quality.

Two of the different items in this product is the Rosa Canina & Simmondsia Chinensis. These most be the non-chip pan look ingredients.

The Instructions
******************
I was genuinely surprised to see that they only came in English. Most bottles give instructioins in several different languages now. Anyway usually easy to follow instructions ;

Message your hair into a luxurious lather and enjoy the revitalizing fragrance. Rinse when ready. For even softer and smoother hair use with Herbal Essences Silk n Shine Conditioner for dry / damaged hair. ( I do recommend doing this as the 2 work really well together - and don't leave you with a chip-pan look)

What it claims to do for you

1. Protect hair's radiant vitality.
2. Penetrate and help replenish hair's natural moisture
3. Leave hair luxuriously silky and shining with radiance.

Oh - a bit of History on the bottle
****************
Herbal Lore

Ancient Greek believed roses became red from the blood of Aphrodite, who pricked her foot on a thorn trying to save her beloved Adonis.

What this has to do with a shampoo is beyond me - any-one with any ideas on that please let me know.

Think the advertisers were running out of ideas and tried to link this bit of a myth to the Rosehip extract supposedly in this prouduct.

The Aroma and Texture
**************************
When opening the bottle there is a beautiful smell that does, in a way remind me of roses in a hot summer's garden.
It also reminded me strawberries. It is a lovely smell and does have the warmth I was expecting from its soft pink colour.
The texture is smooth, creamy and soft.

Using the Product
********************
As I mentioned earlier I had been using this alongside the conditioner suggested and it has proved to be a winning combination. The shampoo has left my hair feeling really clean and soft. As I used it the lather produced an average amount that felt great as I massaged it into my scalp. As I brushed my hair through it did feel really soft and had a good shine to it. Even after straightening my hair felt lovely. I did also notice that it gave my highlights a good boost.

The Conclusion
******************

I have not used this product any differently to other products and had kept to my usual hair washing routine. Because my hair tends to be drier rather than greasy, so I was really pleased with the softness and shine that it has had over the past 2 months. My partner did at first say the aroma was quite strong but not an unpleasant strong. (not sure if that was a compliment or not - but have noticed that when we are sitting on the sofa, chilling, his hand tends to work its way towards my hair and he often rolls pieces around his fingers !!! Not kidding girls - its so relaxing) thanks Herbal Essences for that in particular.

I really do recommend this product for dry, coloured and damaged hair. Its fab.
