Advantages: nice scent

Disadvantages: doesn't really work

I am always a touch dubious of shampoos that claim to hydrate the hair, as surely there is only so much hydration a shampoo can give, plus then you have to factor in the blowdrying and heat styling which will dry and dull the hair again anyway.

I have seen many adverts on tv for Herbal Essences, usually some buxom brunette tossing her locks while indulging in a steamy shower. Her hair usually has bounce and lift and looks ever so glossy. Now, I am not a buxom brunette, but I thought I would give this a shot anyway.

The shampoo claims it is for dry hair, my hair is coloured is prone to being dry and sometimes frizzy. The summer can play havoc with it, sun exposure causing the ends to go quite course and unsightly.

Packaging:

The bottle is sleek and quite sexy looking and the flip top lid means easy access. It also sits well on the bath side and there is minimal mess when pouring out the shampoo.

Test:

A small dollop into the palm of the hand and a good lather up with some luke warm water. It lathers fine and leaves a pleasant flowery smell. There are hints of coconut which come through, though I felt the coconut scent could have been stronger. It produced a decent soapy lather on the scalp and rinsed out pretty well.

Results:

I blotted dry with a towel before following with a quick blowdry on medium heat. My hair did feel fresh and cleansed, though I am not sure it felt hydrated. Hydrated hair..what is that anyway? To me, it gives the impression of silky, supple hair that is bursting with moisture. The shampoo should really have left some sort of sheen at least, a glimmer of something to suggest it was hydrating the hair shaft. Alas, it really did not seem to have made much difference. The hair just felt washed and lacked anything special.

Conclusion:

Smells nice, looks nice and washes well, but I am afraid for me it was just quite bog standard. I have achieved a healthier finish with Pantene of late, which really does seem to give the hair life and help with the dryness.

Summary: so so
