Advantages: Great smell and lovely lather
Disadvantages: None yet
Clairol herbal essences is a range of shampoos and conditioners that use natural ingredients to create heavenly smelling products! You've all seen the adverts, and now while i dont like this shampoo quite as much as THOSE would suggest, it is my favourite shampoo around, and the favourite of pretty much all of why friends as well (and Im such a product whore as well. Ive tried countless shampoos and none are better than this!).
SO what makes it sooooo divine?
The product range
This review focuses on the silk and shine shampoo for dry/damaged hair with rose hips, jojoba and vitamin e extracts, but there are various herbal essences products depending on hair type and shampooing needs and they all have various different ingredients and scents. I personally like this one the best! It also has a matching conditioner, which I bought with the shampoo in a BOGOF sale.
Ingredients
Well a load of complicated chemicals for a start, but dont be put off by that. The selling point of this shampoo is the natural ingredients it contains that creates the gorgeous smell. As I said before, this one contains rose hips, jojoba and vitamin e. Rose I think is mainly there for the smell but vitamin e and jojoba are both known for their moisturising properties so they're there to keep hair silky soft!
Packaging
A delightful, girly bottle, you can get either the 400ml or the 250ml, its a transparent bottle that looks pink from the shampoo inside, and there is a lovely picture of roses on the inside of the bottle which is very pretty. The lid is an open/close cap and is made of green plastic. The bottle can be recycled. On the back green writing on a white label gives the directions for use, ingredients, contact numbers, a blurb about the product and then a 'herbal lore' box which gives a random fact about the product, in this case about the history of the rose in ancient greece.
The bottle promises that the formula is specially created to:
-Protect hair's radiant vitality
-Penetrate and help replenish hair's natural moisture
-Leave hair luxuriously silky and shining with radiance.
Which all sounds pretty good to me!
The shampoo
At the end of the day, this is what its all about. Its a fairly thin soapy shampoo, a lovely rose pink colour and it smells gorgeous, flowery and this is probably the best shampoo scwnt ive ever smelled! But its not sickly or overpowering, it just makes the whole experience that bit nicer.
It lathers up really well in the hair so a little does go a long way. This means that a bottle lasts for quite a while even if, like me, you wash your hair most days. It rinses out easily and even without following it up with the conditioner (which I do recommend) my hair feels smoother, silkier and easier to comb through even when wet.
Results
Soft, shiny hair, extremely clean to the point where putting it up in a ponytail is more difficult as the hair is slippy. The scent lingers on the hair as well, so although its not strong every now and then you just get a whiff of your gorgeous smelling hair.
General thoughts
I would really recommend this shampoo. I have problems with allergic reactions to shampoo and at first I was worried by the large list of chemicals that seems to make up the ingredients but this didnt cause me any trouble at all. The smell is great but apart from that it leaves the hair feeling gorgeous and smooth and I will be sticking to this shampoo for a long time.
Price and availability
Pretty much everywhere that sells shampoo sells this, its extremely popular so most supermarkets and pharmacies have it.
It costs £1.89 for the 250ml bottle in my local superdrug and £2.80 for the 400ml bottle, so that is better value. Its more expensive than a few other shampoos but in terms of relative quality it is far better and I think its better than any other shampoo that you can buy for a similar price (or more expensive for that matter!)
Summary: Good value for money
