Advantages: good smell

Disadvantages: not so much volume

The adverts on television for these shampoos always make me chuckle, as they usually have a very attractive woman in a shower, clearly getting turned on by her shampoo. I don't stand in my bath and massage in my shampoo with a big beaming smile on my face, looking all around me for approval. So I figured there must be something about the herbal essences shampoos that is making these women so pleased.

You can get them in a range of flavours, but this is the normal one, which is suitable for normal hair. What is normal hair? Hair that is not coloured, dry, damaged, permed? Does anyone actually have normal hair these days?

The smell is better than the the results. It is like walking into a spice shop and taking a good whiff of the finest scents. It blends chamomile, aloe vera and passion flower into an intoxicating mixture. I have no idea what passion flower smells like on its own, but I am sure it is potent. Herbal Essences pride themselves on using all natural scents and assure us they are pesticide free.

It lathers up nicely and doesn't leave any scummy residue around the bath. The smell is a draw, you want to keep massaging it in, it smells romantic and therapeutic. It would also work well as a shower gel, so it's worth putting some on a sponge and doing under the armpits!

It left my hair in reasonable condition, with a fresh invigorated cleansed feeling, though it did lack volume at the roots and failed to succeed where Pantene's volume shampoo had worked. It will cost around two quid for a bottle, so the price is fair, but it's more about the smell than stunning results.

Summary: not bad

These old style ones are so much better than the new ones. I can't imagine why they wanted to change them, Susan
