Advantages: smells good
Disadvantages: less hair at the end
Other ops for this shampoo seem to find it okay but I thought I should share my experience. Herbal Essences smells very nice and, generally, cleans quite well. Now normally I'm a fickle kinda girly and change my shampoo every two weeks because all the lovely bright fancy packages call out to me from the supermarket shelves and I bore of looking at the same one in the shower for too long. Now about a year ago my hair was was nice. It was healthy, shiny, the kind that people want. I was often complimented on it and as a result it became something I was quite proud of and began to take a bit more care of it. Now I'm not the kind of girl to spend ages on it. I'm too lazy to do that, all I did was buy a couple of extra products to use on it and avoided blow drying too often. Anyway I started using herbal essences about 11 months ago and decided I liked the smell and it was a good enough shampoo for a reasonable price. I ended up sticking to it for about 9-10 months. Gradually the condition of my hair began to deteriorate. When in the shower an unusual amount of hair fell out and my bed sheets and pillows would always have an unuaually large amount on it. I would also find a lot in the spot in front of the mirror where I would blow dry my hair. For ages I put it down to a mixture of the stess of starting uni, blowing drying it more than usual and that fact that I'd started to use straighteners because the people I lived with all had them and I would use theirs because I was always ready to go out before them. My hair became dryer and all split endy because of all the new hair growth. This made me of course use the straighteners even more to improve the way it looked. This then made me just assume even more that it was the straighteners. When I came home from uni I decided to change my shampoo because I know your supposed to and decided it was about time. I moved onto Dove then to Timotei and I realised my hai
r wasn't falling out as much as it used to. In fact the amount had gone back to normal. It had never occurred to me that it might be the shampoo making my hair fall out but that is indeed what it was. It wasn't the straighteners because I came home to find that my little sister had bought a pair so I have continued to use them. It is also unlikely to be the stress because my stress level hasn't particularly changed and I am also possible the least stress affected person in the world. Nothing bothers me for long as I get over it in a short time. One possibility was the different water but given no one else suffered I doubt it was the culprit. No I'm afraid Herbal Essences did indeed make my hair fall out. So let this be a warning thinking about using it. It may not happen to everyone but if you find you are loosing your hair take a look at your shampoo because the reason could be right there. So I basically came back from a year at uni a drop out who had (inevitably) gained weight and whose hair was a shadow of its former self. Not a good experience in all.

- 31/05/05 After I dyed my hair with Loreal Color Rays, I noticed my hair began falling out. I asked about it on a different website where everyone colors their hair. They said it wasn't possible for the dye to cause me to lose hair, so I thought, maybe it's my shampoo. I started using Herbal Essences a few weeks before I dyed my hair, and I'm not going to use it any more now that I know I'm not the only one!

- 22/07/02 Nice op. As a bloke, I don't really notice which shampoos I'm using, but might persuade my wife to use it on her legs (tee hee!). |
