Clairol Herbal Essences
Dry & Damaged Shampoo range
Clairol's was first established 1931 by a chemist and his wife. The name of the company was taken a hair-coloring preparation the couple found while traveling in Europe. By 1950, Clairol became a household name and now an international product with a vast range of hair product, made even more famous by the catchphrase, "Does she...or doesn't she? Only her hairdresser knows for sure."
As I have mentioned in another review about a conditioner I have highlights in my hair and am now being classed as 'middle aged' I have noticed my hair needs a very good shampoo & conditioner to keep the smooth, silky feeling and shine to it.
So when I noticed this range of Herbal Essences shampoo in my local supermarket I decided to give it a go. I brought it with the dry / damaged conditioner that is recommended as its partner.
The product was the 250ml size in a transparent bottle. This is a good idea from the advertising companies idea to draw you attention to the 'natural' extract that is meant to be within the ingredients.
Aqua, sodium laureth sulphate, sodium chloride, Edylhexyl, Methoxycinnamarte, DMDM Hydanton, Disodium EDRA, TEA - Dodecylbenzensulfonate, ginger flower, cassia and banana flower Propylene glycol, BHT, Silica, , Polysorbate 60.....
I have just realised and gone back into my review on the Conditioner to realise that many of the ingredients are the same!! Well no surprise there really - most of these products are all the same stuff with a few selective items. It is the choice of these items and quanities / ratio used that separates the shampoos from the conditioners and their quality.
I was genuinely surprised to see that they only came in English. Most bottles give instructioins in several different languages now. Anyway usually easy to follow instructions ;
Message your hair into a luxurious lather and enjoy the revitalizing fragrance. Rinse when ready. For even softer and smoother hair use with Herbal Essences Silk n Shine Conditioner for dry / damaged hair.
What it claims to do for you
1. Protect hair's radiant vitality.
2. Penetrate and help replenish hair's natural moisture
3. Leave hair luxuriously silky and shining with radiance.
Oh - a bit of History on the bottle
Ancient Greek believed roses became red from the blood of Aphrodite, who pricked her foot on a thorn trying to save her beloved Adonis.
What this has to do with a shampoo is beyond me - any-one with any ideas on that please let me know.
Think the advertisers were running out of ideas and tried to link this bit of a myth to the Rosehip extract supposedly in this prouduct.
The Aroma and Texture
When opening the bottle there is a beautiful smell that does, in a way remind me of roses in a hot summer's garden.
It also reminded me fruits. It is a lovely smell and does have the warmth I was expecting from its soft pink colour.
The texture is smooth, creamy and soft.
Using the Product
As I mentioned earlier I had been using this alongside the conditioner suggested and it has proved to be a winning combination. The shampoo has left my hair feeling really clean and soft. As I used it the lather produced an average amount that felt great as I massaged it into my scalp. As I brushed my hair through it did feel really soft and had a good shine to it. Even after straightening my hair felt lovely. I did also notice that it gave my highlights a good boost.
I have not used this product any differently to other products and had kept to my usual hair washing routine. Because my hair tends to be drier rather than greasy, so I was really pleased with the softness and shine that it has had over the past 2 months. My partner did at first say the aroma was quite strong but not an unpleasant strong. (not sure if that was a compliment or not - but have noticed that when we are sitting on the sofa, chilling, his hand tends to work its way towards my hair and he often rolls pieces around his fingers !!! Not kidding girls - its so relaxing) thanks Herbal Essences for that in particular.
I really do recommend this product for dry and damaged hair. Its fab.

This is the shampoo from those really annoying adverts, but in all fairness the product is actually really rather good. The rainforest flower shampoo is a fairly new addition to the range and in my opinion it lives up to the high standard the rest of the products have set.
You can buy this product in a variety of sizes and I find the smallest one particularly useful for going on holiday because the bottles are rectangular and slimline so they don't take up a lot of room. The shampoo itself smells delicious and rainforest flower has a really fruity scent that lasts even after you dry your hair with a hairdryer. There is also a conditioner to accompany the shampoo so the scent will be even more intense.
You only need a little bit of the shampoo to create a very thick lather that feels really luxurious. The only negative point I have is that I didn't think it worked that well on dry hair- but this could just be me- so I've taken to mixing a blob of this brand of conditioner with a blob of a conditioner such as Aussie miracle moist. This seems to the best combination.
Now after those adverts how could I not try the new herbal essences shampoo? The price is pretty good and you can nearly always find these in a deal in some store or another!
The bottle looks really good in the bathroom, and I love the rich red colour of the shampoo itself. The smell is simply divine, and does just make you go "ooh yummy!" out loud (or is that just me?!). It apparently contains chinese cinnamon and ginger oil, but I couldn't smell those, but it does smell good!
It foams up really well and you don't need an awful lot, which is great as it tends to last a while before you have to replace it. It is marketed as a shampoo specifically for dry/damaged hair, but I have to say that it didn't leave my hair as soft as I would have liked, particularly as it is supposed to leave your hair "sensuously smooth". In the absence of conditioner, this shampoo left my hair feeling a bit "straw-like". It does leave your hair smelling really good though, and if used with the conditioner, leaves your hair feeling clean and quite soft.
This is the first seperate shampoo i have used as i usually use a 2 in 1 that shall remain nameless! It was only by chance that i got attracted to the bottle whilst shopping in Boots. After smelling it i had to buy it. The fragrance is one of the best things about this shampoo. And it doesn't fade as soon as you dry your hair either, its keeps your hair smelling nice for days.
It lathers up really well and i found i didn't have to use much to cover all my hair (i have very long hair) and i'd found myself using twice if not 3 times the amount with previous products.
The cost is quite low considering the reputable brand and the fact that it actually works.
My hair, being long, tends to get a bit straggled but i found it improved considerably after using it for just a couple of weeks.
Clairol Herbal Essences Rainforest Flower Shampoo smells absolutley georgous and the fresh as a daisy smell stays on your hair for ages!!
I am a fan of Clairol Hair Products and first tried the Rainforest Flower Shampoo recently as I was fed up with my previous brand and wanted a fresh new smell for summer.
My hair is regularly coloured and is therefore prone to being dry and damaged and this shampoo worked really well with it. I felt the shampoo was mild enough for dry hair but still had the ability to make it squeaky clean. You only need a little of this shampoo as it lathers really well and leaves even the dirtiest hair squeaky clean after just one shampoo i have never had the need to repeat.
The matching conditioner is another great product and for best results use both together. It has a silky smooth consistency and you can feel you hair softening instantly.
After leaving the conditioner in for just a minute and then rinsing I found my hair to be silky soft and tangle free.
Once my hair was blowdried it was soft and shiny and the fresh smell of the shampoo lingered.
I found the product to be of average shampoo price and good value as so little is needed.
I will purchase thias agian and reccomend it to others
