Advantages: Powerful, gorgeous aroma. Leaves hair thick and glossy.

Disadvantages: Can be a bit thick on hair sometimes.

I have the Herbal Essences Silk n' Shine Conditioner which I bought along with the counterpart shampoo after seeing those memorable television adverts where the lady groans and moans with pleasure as she is washing her hair! I'm not usually a sucker for believing claims in commercials but I really wanted to see if the product lived up to my expectations. I'd also had this recommended by a friend who claimed the aroma had to be smelled to be believed!

I have the conditioner for Dry and/or Damaged hair. This comes in a gaudy pink bottle adorned with the brand logo, a pink rose. The shampoo is in a clear bottle but the liquid is colour co-ordinated and is pink too. I have the sturdy 400ml sized bottle. This is an affordable conditioner which retails at around £2 a bottle. The bottle has a flip top opening that clicks securely and stays closed when you need it to. I would recommend, however, taping this top down if you are taking a bottle on holiday as it is quite easy to snap open. The dispenser hole is quite large so a good amount comes out when you squeeze.

The strong aroma of the product is obvious even just when you open the top. When you squeeze the liquid into your hand the smell is even stronger. The aroma is very fruity and fresh - like a blend of exotic fruits. It evokes images of boquets of flowers too. The wording on the bottle does not describe what the scent actually is but the added ingredients include Vitamin E, jojoba extracts and rose hips. It is quite astonishing but the smell is so strong that my entire upstairs in my house is tainted by the aroma after I've washed my hair!

The conditioner is thick and quite greasy. It is white in colour with a glossy sheen to it. I need to use a couple of dollops for my long hair. It is easy to work through the hair and allows you to untangle any knots with your fingers. I can feel it sort of sticking to my hair shafts as I work it in and it thickens the hair to some degree. When I rinse the conditioner off my hair feels full and stronger.

In the styling stage my damp hair feels very easy to manage and the dry ends look sleek and shiny. When hair is fully dry the hair has a clean, shiny appearance and looks tamed, not frizzy or unmanageable. The smell of the conditioner lingers on the hair for the whole day after washing.

I would recommend using the shampoo that goes with this to get the full effect or 'experience'. The conditioner more than meets my expectations and that television advert with the lady in ecstasy over the fragrance is not a case of over-acting or inflated claims either!

Summary: A conditioner that smells great and leaves hair shiny.
