Advantages: Smells amazing. Leaves hair shiny and manageable.
Disadvantages: The lather can be quite intense.
I have highlighted hair which is dry and damaged and I am always looking to try new products to leave my hair less frizzy and more manageable. I first heard about Herbal Essences in their memorable television advertising campaign in which a woman moans with pleasure whilst washing her hair! This was enough to make me try the shampoo and I was also told by a friend that the range was affordable and smelled divine!
I bought the 400ml Silk N' Shine shampoo and conditioner for Dry and Damaged Hair. I think they were around £2 a bottle but I have seen the price vary from store to store. This is the 'pink' coloured range. The shampoo comes in a transparent bottle but the liquid inside is tainted pink. The back of the bottle is adorned with a rose bush paper. This is to highlight the fact that the added ingredients in the shampoo include Rose hips in addition to jojoba extracts and Vitamin E.
The bottle comes with a flip top opening. This can be snapped open with ease when you have wet and slippy fingers. It closes securely although I wouldn't travel with a bottle unless the top was taped down. The whole top can actually screw off but the dispensing nozzle is large enough to be able to squeeze a fair amount out.
The label on the shampoo gives directions for use and tells me what the shampoo will do for my hair. It says that "pure mountain spring water" is used in the making of the shampoo. This, along with the other special ingredients, will: "Protect hair's radiant vitality; penetrate and help replenish hair's natural moisture and leave hair...silky and shining".
I need a large dollop (maybe two fifty pence piece size) to work through my long hair. The shampoo is gelatinous but works into a lather quite quickly. I find that there are a lot of bubbles from just a little bit of shampoo. The aroma of the shampoo is amazing. It is very strong and pervades the entire upstairs level of my house when I'm in the shower! The fragrance is quite fruity, fresh and flowery - it is like walking through a field of flowers and ripe Spring fruits.
The shampoo is very good at cleaning the hair and after rinsing the hair it feels sleek and soft. I use the conditioner in the same range to get the full benefit. The conditioner has the same scent and is equally impressive.
During the styling stage my hair is easy to manage. When fully dry my hair has a high shine finish and the aroma lingers on the hair for a day after washing. My hair is soft but not flyaway or fuzzy.
I am very impressed by the Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner range and have since used other products in the range. They are a cheap solution for dry, frazzled hair. Another brilliant thing about Herbal Essences is that ultra powerful aroma - you have to try it to believe it. The smell is like a magic spell! I'll keep buying this and recommend it to friends.
Summary: An effective shampoo that smells beautiful.
