Advantages: Left my hair manageable and in good condition

Disadvantages: No noticeable volume boost

I am always on the lookout for a shampoo that does everything: moisturising, volumising, defrizzing, detangling and heat protection. I've tried a lot of herbal essences products before and have always liked them so I had high hopes for this one. I'll try to cover as many aspects of the product can so that you can see if it will suit your needs.

The blurb from the manufacturers:

"Uplifting volume
with Passion flower and Pearl extracts
See your hair defy gravity with my light weight formula with Passion flower & pearl extracts. Get a lift in all the right places whilst keeping your hair delightfully luscious! Defy gravity and stay uplifted for fine/normal hair"

The idea behind it is that the lightweight formula boosts the body of your hair but doesn't make it greasy or heavy. How it does this I'm not quite sure but I was willing to give it a try.

The bottle is orange and a really nice curved shape, designed to fit together with the conditioner bottle in the same range. It has a flat top so that you can stand it upside down so that the liquid inside is ready to be dispensed straight away. You push one side of the lid and the opposite side opens. The product is dispensed through a small hole so you have to squeeze to get any out. This works quite well for shampoo as it comes out quite easily.

You use it the way you would any other shampoo. I always do two applications as I quite often have a lot of product hair or have it backcombed (I'm in a theatre company so quite often have to have elaborate hairdos!) I have to say that I really like the smell of this product. Like most of the Herbal Essences shampoos this is really natural smelling and smells of exotic flowers and fruit (similar to peaches or nectarines). I really like how natural it smells, it's a lovely clean fragrance.

Before I put the conditioner that's also in this range on, I was really impressed with how clean and smooth my hair felt. There were no tangles and my hair felt clean but not stripped as it can feel with strong shampoos. My hair is naturally fine but there is a lot of it so I was impressed that my hair felt easy to run my fingers through but without feeling lank or over conditioned. It also left my scalp feeling really fresh.

After using the matching conditioner to this product, my hair remained really manageable even after towel drying which can leave it tangled or frizzy. I then left my hair to dry naturally. When it was dry it was still in great condition and easy to style. It had a little more bounce to it than usual but I didn't really notice much difference to the volume.

I think this product's main plus is that it makes your hair manageable and easy to style whilst keeping it in good condition but I think the claims about volume boost are a bit far-fetched. I would recommend this product to keep your hair in good condition through repeated styling but I didn't notice any extra volume.

Summary: Generally a good shampoo but doesn't really live up to its claims
