Clairol Nice n Easy Colour Blend Foam
Advantages: Easy to apply, great coverage, doesn't fade to badly
Disadvantages: Colour description was not what took to my hair
Normally I get one friend or another to come and dye my hair but I came to a point where I wanted my hair dying and everyone was busy so I decided to buy a foam hair dye and try to do it myself. I bought this from Sainsbury's but you can buy them in most chemists and supermarkets, the dyes cost around £7 each but I managed to buy 2 for £10 so I think that was quite a good deal.
The dye comes in a mainly white box with a picture of a lady with lovely hair on the front and some fuchsia pink accents around the box. The dyes come in many different colours and I personally am using the medium golden brown which is rated as a level 5. On the box it is claimed that this dye will provide 100% grey coverage and is a long lasting permanent hair dye, on the back of the box you have the very basic instructions of mix, foam and apply which does pretty much cover it. There are instructions to apply a test 48 hours before using the product but to be honest although I know I should I never do the patch test with any hair dyes.
Inside the box you will find a set of instructions, a bottle of formula labelled 1, an activator labelled 2, 2 sachets of conditioner labelled 3, a pink nozzle and a set of gloves. The gloves I am happy to say are actually quite good quality and fit well, they are made of soft latex rather than the slippery thin plastic gloves you get with a lot of hair dyes. To use the colourant you simply pour 1 into 2 and shake three times ( I no idea why three times) you then attach the nozzle and leave to settle for 30 seconds before using. To use the dye you squeeze the bottle and the foam comes out of the nozzle, I didn't red this properly the first time I used it and was trying to push down the nozzle and was quite confused as to why nothing was happening. The foam is quick and easy to apply and doesn't go everywhere which is exactly what I was looking for and it doesn't drip once on the hair either.
Once the 25 minute development time is finished you simply rinse your hair under warm water until the water runs clear and then administer the conditioner. I found that the water did take a while to fully run clear and then when I rinsed the conditioner out the water had gone pinky again but it did eventually all come out. The colour description on the box was medium brown but it came out very dark on my hair although it did lighten after a few washes. I did get a little of the dye around my hair line when I used the dye and although I tried to wipe it away once I had finished it was still there even after I had fully rinsed my hair so I would only dye my hair with this when I didn't need to go out the next day to give it chance to wear of my skin.
The box has a couple of little handy things on it which I liked, first of all when you first lift the lid on the inside flap there is a note of the colour shade so if you like it you can place it in your purse to make it handy for further purchasing. Secondly on the instruction leaflet there is a little list of what you should have with you before you start the dying process, a watch to time the application, an old towel to protect from splashes and a note not to wash your hair on the day you plan to dye it.
There are the usual things you need to be cautious of such as not to use if you have had prior reactions to such products, do not use on broken skin, discontinue use if you have any stinging or itching during application and keep the product away from children.
I liked this product as it allowed me to dye my hair myself without making too much mess, the smell on my hair wasn't too strong although the smell of the dye itself was very strong. The dye was a little too dark for me so I will buy a lighter shade next time I use this but it coloured my hair really well and covered all grey aswell as leaving it silky and shining really nicely. The colour lasts really well too, my greys had started to grow back through before I needed to redye my hair which was good as it means apart from the little bit of fading from the first few washes my hair didn't fade too much at all. This is definitely on my recommendation lists although if you have any issues with your chest I would rethink that as the smell is so strong when you use it.
Summary: One I will use again just in a different shade
