Clairol Nice n Easy Colour Blend Foam
Advantages: Price, covers well
Disadvantages: Colour, the bottle is poorly designed
After going from blonde to brunette a month or so ago I have now decided that actually, blonde is better. I knew I would decide that because I always do so here we are again trying to get my hair back to the way it was. However, I also have the bottom layers of my hair bright pink at the moment so it is not a simple case of whacking a load of bleach on and letting it do its job.
I didnt really want to bleach my hair because I must have dyed my hair 5 times in the past month so its really not in the best condition at the moment. I knew that going from a medium brown to a blonde wouldnt be too easy without bleach but I have often used dyes in the past which have given me a medium to dark blonde result which was something I would be happy with.
Browsing in my local Asda there wasnt a great deal of choice. Ideally I was after a foam type dye because I didnt want to end up missing a big chunk of my hair like I have before! In the end I opted for Nice n Easy Colour Blend Foam in the shade lightest blonde. I paid £4 for the dye which I thought was a very reasonable price for a well known brand.
I applied the dye the day after buying it. I also wanted to refresh my pink so I decided to put the blonde dye on first and then follow with the pink underneath. In all honesty I thought this would be a recipe for disaster and I would end up with bits of pink in the blonde etc but I went ahead anyway!
The instructions that came with the dye were easy to follow and the dye was easy to mix. The foam comes in a sort of pump but its not a pump! You actually squeeze the bottle to dispense the foam. Mixed up the dye is a liquid and it is sort of an amber colour. To dispense the dye is actually quite hard. It is easy enough to squeeze the bottle but the foam that comes out isnt exactly what I would call foam. It is bubbly but not really thick like foam and I found it difficult to get enough of the product out of the bottle each time.
Applying the dye is ok, the consistency makes it easy to get all over your hair without dripping it all over the place but I was really let down by how runny the foam was. It also felt quite greasy.
I thought there was enough dye for my shoulder length, thick hair. However, I was only using the dye on half of my hair as the rest is pink so it would probably be wise to get two boxes if I was using this on all of my hair. As soon as I had used about 2/3 of the dye it became almost impossible to get anymore of the dye out of the bottle so this made it quite difficult, in the end I actually took the lid off and used it as a liquid because it was impossible to get the foam out of the bottle.
The dye is supposed to stay on your hair for about half an hour. As I was applying the pink at the same time I imagine mine was actually on my hair for at least 45 minutes. I did check on the development numerous times and I was disappointed. I hadnt expected bright blonde hair but it really looked like it hadnt changed at all.
The dye didnt smell too bad, it did have a slight chemical scent but this was not strong and I didnt need to open windows or anything.
When it came to rinsing my hair the dye washed out easily. The conditioner provided was nice and thick and it left my hair soft and silky.
I was disappointed with the colour. My friend actually started laughing at me and calling me ginger! I wouldnt agree with him, I dont think its ginger but it is a mousey brown colour. Considering the colour it was before it has only lightened it a couple of shades.
However, the coverage is good and I do actually sort of like the colour I think (I really cant decide). However, the hassle I had applying the dye was not worth it in my opinion and I think that in the future I will use a different dye that I have used before such as Perfect 10.
Summary: Not for me
