Dove Colour Radiance Shampoo
Advantages: reasonably priced, prolongs colour, makes my hair less frizzy
Disadvantages: none really
I am a member of a website called BzzAgent which sends you out products to try in return for you getting feedback from family and friends. Recently I took part in their Dove Colour Care Campaign and was sent a full sized bottle of this shampoo and the matching deep conditioning treatment.
The shampoo is designed for coloured hair. I dye my hair darker than its natural shade and it is a process I find messy and time consuming, therefore I don't particularly enjoy doing it. Given this, anything that promises to prolong the life of my hair colour is worth a try. I have had mixed experiences with Dove hair care so far, so was interested to see how I would get on with this.
The shampoo promises to nourish hair and keep colour looking radiant for up to 10 weeks. It also states that this is a lower sulphate shampoo. Sulphates are the ingredient that helps the shampoo to lather, but some people believe that they can be an irritant, so a lot of hair care companies are now promoting their product as being low in sulphates.
The packaging of the shampoo is nice, but nothing special. It comes in an almost triangular shaped bottle with pink accents and has an easy to open flip top lid. I don't think it would really stand out to me on a shelf and I think I'd only look at it if there was something else like a special offer to lure me in, so I'm glad I got to try this for free or I may never have discovered it!
The shampoo itself is white with a pearly look to it and is quite thick. It smells nice - it's not the original Dove soap smell - I'd say it's a bit more floral than that and quite sweet, but it's a pleasant scent that I enjoy using.
Given that this is supposedly low sulphate I did think it might have trouble lathering, but I was pleased to find that it lathered just as well as any previous shampoos I have used. It rinsed out just as easily too. I usually follow up with a conditioner because I have fairly long hair that tangles easily. I don't have the matching conditioner, although I have on occasion followed this shampoo with the matching deep conditioning treatment.
Having now used nearly the full bottle, I have to say I have been very impressed with the results I've had from this shampoo. Firstly, it manages to be moisturising without leaving my hair greasy. I often find the ends of my hair go dry and ratty, but there has been a marked improvement since I began using this. Secondly my hair simply looks healthier in general. It looks glossier and has more bounce and less frizz. It might be my imagination, but I'm sure I have managed to cut down on styling time since I started using this, as my hair usually looks reasonable without any products being added. Thirdly - and the thing I have been most impressed with - is that it genuinely does seem to have kept the colour radiant. It's been quite a while since I dyed my hair - eight or nine weeks - and I would have expected the colour to have faded considerably more by now, but I think I am going to make it into the New Year before I have to dye it again. Yep, I'm very impressed.
A 250ml bottle of this shampoo costs £2.49 from Boots or £2.32 from Tesco, Asda and Ocado.
Overall, I am very pleased with this shampoo and it is definitely a product I will buy again in the future. I would be very interested to buy the matching conditioner and the leave-in spray they make too. If you're looking for a reasonably priced product which will keep your hair looking vibrant for longer, then I would highly recommend giving this shampoo a try.
Summary: Fantastic stuff
