Advantages: Smells Great, Reasonably Priced

Disadvantages: Not as good as designer brands

I am addicted to the smell of Dove. I like it so much that I even use the deodorant, despite the fact that it leaves hideous white marks all over my clothes. So when I saw that Dove had brought our a new haircare range, I was over the moon. Now I could smell like Dove all over (and god help anyone sitting near to me who didn’t like that distinctive Dove fragrance).

Dove products are made by Lever Faberge, and the haircare is the latest in a long line which includes deodorants, talc, soaps, bath foams and shower gels.

Lever Faberge promote Dove as different from their products because of their high moisturizing content, and the shampoo and conditioner are no exception, containing one quarter moisturizing milk (whatever that is!!).

The haircare comes in various types, and I’ve been using the shampoo and conditioner for dry and damaged hair on my long, thick, curly, straw-like locks.

The Packaging:

Like all Dove stuff, a basic white plastic container with royal blue trim and lid. Nothing special but nothing offensive either. Looks perfectly acceptable on your bathroom shelf.

The Smell:

Aah, that smell. The smell of all Dove products (unless you buy the special ones for sensitive skin) is STRONG, so you either love it or loathe it. It is a clean, flowery, talcy and above all soapy smell and it lasts on your skin and hair. Personally I can’t get enough of it.

The Shampoo:

The shampoo is very white in colour, and thick and creamy in texture. It lathers very well and rinses out nicely, leaving the hair feeling very clean and smelling heavenly.

Is it any good?

Well, yes and no. Compared with other shampoos in the same price range – such as Pantene, Elvive and Herbal Essences – it definitely left my hair softer and more moisturised.

However, compared with the twice as expensive ‘designer’ brands like Umberto Giannin
i, Aussie and Trevor Sorbie (my usual ones), it just wasn’t as good. I needed twice my usual amount of serum afterwards to get my barnet tamed and silky.

The same can be said of the conditioner, which left my hair rather fluffy and dry.

So am I prepared to forego performance in favour of smell?

Absolutely not. My hair soon gets out of condition if I don’t take good care of it and I’m not prepared to let that happen.

If your hair is only moderately dry, then Dove is probably ideal for you. But anyone with serious frizz or dryness definitely needs something stronger, more expensive, and – sadly – not as sweet-smelling.

I paid £1.99 for the shampoo and the same for the conditioner on a special offer at Wilkinsons, but I’ve also seen it for nearly 3 quid elsewhere, so shop around if you want to try it.

p.s. If anyone knows what 'moisturising milk' actualy is, I'd like to know!

I've got a free sample of Dove shampoo & conditioner to try out. My hair is the same type as yours. Very good opinion.

I got a free sample at Tescos, but wasn't very thrilled with it, my hair was full of static, which isn't a problem I usually have.

I have to say I'm a packaging junkie so i would have to decant it! Nice op though.
