“ Brand: Dove / Type: Hair Shampoo / Texture: Serum / What it does: Protects, „
Up until recently I had stopped dying my hair and was buying normal shampoo, whatever was on offer to be honest, I have no brand loyalty. This was on offer so I bought the version for normal hair. Then a few weeks ago I bleached my fringe and dyed it bright red. The red lasted just three washes, this was a permanent dye which faded to apricot in that time. This was a dye I always opt for (some brand loyalty after all) I am not blaming it all on the shampoo as it must have been several factors but it can't have helped.
This comes in very boring packaging, certainly not going to sell itself with that!
This contains a protecting serum, whatever that is. I know it cleans my hair really well and leaves it feeling nice and soft and very lightly fragranced.
The shampoo itself is white and looks creamy and nourishing. It smells clean and fresh, not too feminine so even guys will like it.
With its flip top lid it is easy to use even with wet hands. Only problem is that the lid is at the top of the bottle and due to the shape of it, it isn't easy to stand upside down in order to get the last out of the bottle.
I do recommend this shampoo but warn you that if you have coloured hair that you don't want to fade, avoid the normal version and get the one for coloured hair.
It normally costs £2.18 for 250ml but look out for offers.
When you can get your hands on a brand name product, 250ml bottle for only £1 how can you not want to give it a go. Bought several months ago and have never looked back since! Usually bought when on offer in Tesco, but have found it in the local Pound World and Home Bargain.
I have naturally brown, thick hair and use minimal products so it is quite a healthy mop. This shampoo has given it a great shine, soft feel and healthy look all over. It has a clean, soapy smell, which lingers in your hair, leaving you feeling refreshed and very clean. I have noticed less breakage in my hair and less hair loss through brushing and combing too.
A trick I have learnt from the hairdresser is to apply a small, pea sized amount to dry hair before washing, as this will absorb the grease better than with wet hair. Leave it for a few minutes, rinse, and then wash your hair as normal. I have tried this several times and have noticed a small difference but nothing major. This could be down to the brand of shampoo I am using so might work better with a 'greasy' hair shampoo. However, I have stockpiled enough Dove Therapy to put off experimenting with another shampoo.
The bottle, however, annoys me. I like to know how much I have left, so I am not a huge fan of solid colour plastic bottles. Also, unlike its conditioner partner, the opening is at the top of the bottle so when you are getting to the end of the product, it is harder to squeeze out the remnants (and its not really a bottle that can be cut in half without the aid of a saw!). Do try to keep the opening clean too, as congealed shampoo is not very pleasant, especially when it gets into your hair, it can be harder to wash in or out!
If you have thin or fine hair, avoid this product. It will make your hair more flyaway and unmanageable. It also seems to make thinner hair greasier, especially underneath, which leads to more washing, which in turn removes the healthy oils and balance of your hair. Try to do two to three days between washes if you can, to keep the balance in your hair. Hair that gets greasier quickly will not benefit from this product.
I have been an avid fan of this product for months now and will be hard pushed to change any time soon. It does also come in the small, travel sized bottle but that can cost as much as the 250ml bottle so you are better off buying the empty travel bottles (from Body Care or Boots) and decanting it yourself to take away with you. It has no SPF or heat protection though so is not the best holiday hair (or hair straighteners) companion.
Dove Therapy Shampoo for normal hair
I brought my Dove Shampoo from my local Tesco store last week. It was on offer and cost me just £1.00 for a 250ml bottle - bargain. Because l find it difficult to say no to a bargain, l thought ld give it a go and see how l got on with this product.
Generally l swap and change shampoo frequently. The main reason l do this, is because my hair seems to get used to certain shampoos after a while and stops responding so well. So l find that its best to swap and change products. However recently l haven't been treating my hair quite as well as l should have been, so l wanted a shampoo that was going to nourish my unruley locks!
The product l chose was this Dove therapy shampoo formulated for normal hair with advanced serum. This sounded appealing, and like just the thing l was looking for. The product seems pretty characteristic of most Dove products. The packaging is simple, in its classic white smooth bottle, with the Dove logo on the front of the bottle.
Applying the product was fairly easy, like with most products it's a case of opening the cap and giving the bottle a gentle squeeze. I notice the bottle is shaped to fit the hand perfectly. This probably makes it a little easier to grip when you are in the shower/bath.
The shampoo is pale and silky in its appearance, and of a medium thickness in its consistency, not too thick but not too thin, l would say perfect. The smell is delicate and fresh with a mild clean soapy fragrance. The fragrance does not over power, but leaves your hair feeling clean and fresh. It also leaves a mild clean scent in the bathroom. After use hair smells clean but not hugely scented.
When l apply this shampoo, l get a good lather fairly instantly, which is a very important factor in some of the success of a shampoo for me. I don't actually need to apply very much shampoo to enable me to achieve a soapy, bubbly layer to my hair. Because l have rather long hair, l usually get through a bottle of shampoo really quickly, so lm pleased that l don't need to use a huge amount on each wash, which makes it an economical buy.
This shampoo, has protecting serum, that looks after my hair, protecting and moisturising it from daily stresses and strains.
Even while wet, my hair instantly feels soft and moisturised, and my hands glide across my hair smoothly. When dry and styled my hair feels subtly silky soft and shiny too and my hair is relatively easy to handle, l don't have any big problems brushing my hair, and my hair feels soft and generally manageable.
I like the moisturising properties to this shampoo, and generally feel that its both cleaned my hair well, and looked after my hair in the process.
I don't really have any criticisms, but you can expect to pay double what l paid for this shampoo when it was on offer, having said that, because l found l didn't need to use a huge amount of shampoo at one time, it probably would work out a fairly affordable shampoo even at full price. It's a top quality product, l would expect no less from Dove. I wouldn't say it's a really special shampoo, it's a good shampoo, but for me it's a good quality everyday shampoo, which does what it suggests it will do, its not a premium shampoo that ld wish to pay a huge amount extra for, that will dramatically change your hair, but for a subtle difference, it's a worthy buy.
I will most probably use this product again, and l was very happy with my purchase. I recommend this product!
When it comes to the brand of Dove I love the stuff and am a huge fan of the range! Usually on offer I find the range usually superb and that there is something in the range for everyone!
This one arrived in our bathroom last week kind courtesy of my mother who does our shopping and mighty pleased I was too!
250ml white plastic bottle with a flip top lid to the top of it concealing a small hole. On the front in blue and silver writing I'm told it is Dove Therapy Balance Therapy Shampoo With Protecting Serum and that it's for normal hair and there is a small silver dove emblem on there to. On the back of the bottle I'm told a bit about the product, ingredients are listed as are contact details for Unilver (the manufacturer of the product) and finally the size is stated as is the recycle symbol and finally there is a bar-code on there. Nice enough and plain but informative packaging this is.
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle...
Normal, naturally balanced hair exposed to daily environmental aggressions.
Balance Therapy Shampoo. The advanced protecting serum in the formulation contains millions of micro particles that protect hair from daily aggressions that cause early signs of damage. Gently cleanses the hair to remove build up, leaving hair naturally balanced, healthy looking and noticeably beautiful.
Mild formula - Neutral Ph
For frequent use
Me Using It....
Well I use this in the usual way! Wet my hair, lather with this and repeat and finally rinsing my hair thoroughly.
The liquid itself is thickish white and glossy and a small amount goes a very long way indeed quickly giving off a slightly fruity and creamy fragrance and lathering up really quickly. As you rub this through your hair you can feel the gentleness this gives and that it really is smoothing the hair whilst cleansing it.

As I have said I do this process twice and what is nice about this shampoo is that if you don't want to use a separate conditioner for any reason you don't have to (though personally I always opt to).
It rinses out of the hair with ease and before using conditioner my hair feels really deep down clean, conditioned (due to the serum in this) and any knots or tangles have gone thus leaving my hair feeling like silk!
Once I have used the conditioner that matches this product my hair is left amazingly fragranced (a scent that lasts all day long and gets comments lol) and it is left smoother and shinier than before I used it!
I seriously didn't think I'd love this as much as I do, it being for normal hair and not more specialised for my hair needs I did wonder if it would be any good but it really is! First off it cleans hair brilliantly. Never before as that been so important to me as recently due to me going to the gym and burning up a sweat daily that really leaves my hair feeling greasy and grimy. Not just that but other people use the equipment I do and have their sweaty heads on head supports and stuff meaning my hair saps up their debris as well as my own! I have to wash my hair every day now and this is really mild and gentle to perform that job with ease and not leaving build up in my hair or making it limp and/of lank or giving me any issues at all.
The smell again is also very important to me! I'm working out in a gym full of fit men and no I don't wanna stink thank-you very much! Also it isn't such a heavy formula (even though it contains serum) that it makes my hair limp meaning I can control my hair without it being fly-away or anything and yes hair is left in a great silky condition!
So my verdict is this is a great day to day shampoo fine on it's own or with conditioner, I think it's truly marvelous!
Available in most good supermarket's etc priced at about £2.29 a bottle but do look out for offers!
This is a review for the Shampoo and conditioner that matches it!
After giving up on Tresemme I've tried a number of shampoos trying to find one I like. Generally I buy whatever is on offer, as I did when I saw this Dove one in Tesco recently. Proper price the 200ml bottles of shampoo and conditioner are £1.89 each, however they were on offer, buy one get one free. This product is widely available in Dove's signature classy but understated white curved bottles.
Dove are known for good quality rich moisturisers and so I expected these to leave my hair really soft as their creams do for my skin. The bottle states that the shampoo and conditioner both contain protecting serum to protect the hair as well as nourish.
Using the product
The shampoo and conditioner are lovely to use. They are thick and creamy in consistency as you would expect from Dove. They also smell gorgeous and quite a few people commented and the fragrance which lingered a long while after using it. I like my shampoo to smell good so this was a real plus for this product.
The shampoo makes a good thick lather with just a little, but I did find it a little heavy and that is wasn't quite as deep cleansing as some other shampoos I'd used. I didn't get that squeak to my hair with this.
My hair was soft and manageable after using this shampoo and conditioner and smelled wonderful. It wasn't as shiny as I would have liked and I have to say that clean feeling didn't last that long. I found towards the end of the day after washing it in the morning, my hair was starting to feel grubby.
These products I think would be great for people with dry hair. For mine, which gets greasy easily, I think it's a little too heavy. Price wise, I'd only buy it if it's offer as I think nearly £2 per small bottle is a lot and a 200ml lasts no time on my hair.
