      A great organic alternative

      *****Introduction *****
Recently my hair has been suffering and I seem to have a more hair falling out than usual. Quite a lot of strands have been falling out whilst rinsing and when I generally run my fingers through my hair. I can put this down to stress and heat styling! I'm only in my early 20's and do not plan to go bald or grey anytime soon. I cannot get rid of the stress, but at least I can do something about my hair and the shampoo that I use. I should mention I have dry, coarse and fine hair. I was in Holland and Barrett to purchase the Dr Organic Rose otto skin lotion when I spotted they had a buy one get one half price offer. I love scented and organic products and with my recent hair loss dilemma I bought the dr organic rose otto shampoo.

      *****Price and Availability*****
The Dr Organic range is available exclusively at Holland and Barrett on the high street. You can also purchase directly from the Dr Organic site which can be accessed at www.drorganic.co.uk. For this reason you may not have heard of the brand as it is not stocked anywhere else on the high street or in the large beauty department stores. However the Dr Organic range has beauty editors all abuzz and a flurry of nominations and awards have been given. Fashion and beauty bible Cosmopolitan has awarded the Dr Organic hand and nail cream. The shampoo is a little expensive at £5.69 for 265ml. The bottle is a lot smaller than your average shampoo and a lot more expensive. I was willing to pay this price, as I was desperate for a miracle cure! I also purchased the conditioner too which I will review separately.

The shampoo comes in a red tinted bottle so it appears as if the bottle is clear and the liquid inside is red. However the shampoo is clear and not the bottle. The bottle front features the dr organic logo and the title ' Dr Organic Rose Otto Shampoo.' Underneath it is written ' volumising hair therapy.' Another plus for me, as I always opt for volumising products for my fine hair. Underneath that there are three words: revitalising, nourishing and volumising. The product also claims to be bioactive and formulated using ingredients organically certified and natural extracts. I did a little research into this for the purposes of this review and found out that the definition for bioactive is: 'referring to a substance that can be acted on by a living organism or by an extract from a living organism.' Now I am no science buff and I am a little confused by this, but I am sure it is something for the greater good!

      *****Key Ingredients*****
Rose Otto oil is an uplifting essential oil that has been used throughout the ages on skin and hair. The shampoo penetrates deep into the keratin fibres and follicles to gently cleanse, nourish and hydrate. The key organic ingredients in the shampoo are; rose otto oil, aloe vera, vitamin c, lime flower, chamomile, passion flower, calendula, geranium and clove.

      *****Ingredients List*****
Aloe barbadensis leaf extract, Aqua (water), Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, Sodium cocoamphoacetate, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Shea butteramidopropyltrimonium chloride, Coco glucoside, Glyceryl oleate, Parfum, Sorbitan sesquicaprylate, Pelargonium graveolens (geranium) oil, Eugenia caryophyllata (clove) flower oil, Rosa damascena (rose) flower oil, Rosa damascena flower extract, Passiflora incarnata extract, Tilia europaea flower extract, Calendula officinalis flower extract, Chamomilla recutita flower extract, Ascorbic acid, Potassium sorbate, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, Citric acid, Citronellol, Geraniol.

I should mention that after I purchased this item I did some research on the internet to compare what other people thought of this product. Now there have been rave reviews about the shampoo, however some people have had adverse reactions to the other products in the dr organic range. As with any product I ask that you take caution and make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Just because the product is organic it does not mean that you won't get a reaction like any other chemical product. I must reiterate there have been no incidents where there has been a negative reaction to the shampoo or conditioners. I also use the Dr organic body lotion and have had no reaction whatsoever.

The shampoo is a clear liquid that lathers well in to the hair. It does have a faint rose oil smell, but nothing too strong. The instructions state to lather and rinse, much with any other shampoo. Once I washed the shampoo out my hair felt instantly softer. I could tell that the product contained oil as my hair was thinner when wet, than in comparison to regular shampoos. It didn't feel at all oil or greasy, which was something I was worried about. Once dried my hair was soft, smooth and clean with a very faint fragrance. My hair definitely looks a lot healthier with natural shine and bounce. I cannot say that it creates volume as I usually apply volume through styling products or through blow drying. The only negative I would have with this shampoo is that it is not 100% effective on my slightly frizzy, coarse hair. I use this product with the conditioner and the it still doesn't solve the issue. I think I would probably have to use a stronger smoothing conditioner in order to resolve this. However this does not put me off the shampoo as it still works quite well. If you have normal hair, then this shampoo would be very effective.

After two weeks my hair is still falling out so I wouldn't say that the shampoo has combatted this issue. I assume I will have to use the shampoo for longer for my hair to really benefit. I did a little more research on hair loss within women and apparently it is normally due to stress and vitamin deficit. Additionally hair loss will usually only occur for up to 6 months and then hair may or may not regrow. So using a new shampoo and hoping for it to work miracles is probably not the answer here. However I am still very impressed with the results.

I would buy this product again and recommend to others if your hair requires extra nourishment. Using organic hair care has really opened my eyes to the effectiveness of it and quashed any sceptical thoughts I may have had previously. I am determined to make an active change in taking care of myself inside and out, so hopefully I will continue to use this product and replace other hair care products with organic alternatives. As this product isn't 100% effective on my coarse hair I would have to give it 4 stars out of 5.
