Advantages: Nice clean hair

Disadvantages: Hard to find

Our bathroom has a wonderful array of hair styling products be it, styling wax, architectural wax or one of the many hair gels and 'defining' products that we are all likely to buy at some point. Whilst its good that there is a variety we also need a good shampoo to cope with removing these products.

WHY BUY A DETOX SHAMPOO?

All these styling products leave some sort of residue on our hair, be it a little or a lot. They also build up over time and some shampoos cannot cope with removing them.
Also, pollutants have a big part to play on the condition of our hair, be it the fumes from a bus or car or a smoky night in a pub or club and whilst we may not be able to 'feel' them on our hair, they can cause damage.

With this in mind, a shampoo that could cope with both of these was required as my teenage son likes his hair to look good and uses these products almost daily. After a browse along the shelves I chose FCUK Detox Shampoo. The reason being was that it claimed it could cope with both these problems, was a good brand and not too badly priced at £3.85 a bottle and didn't have a 'girlie' smell (my sons only requirement I hasten to add!) As this is marketed as a mans grooming product he'd have no complaints then.

THE BOTTLE

I am sure most of you are aware of the standard minimalistic FCUK packaging. This firm, black plastic bottle stands about 6" high with the standard FCUK writing vertically along the bottle. You'll get 90ml or 6.4 fl oz (if you work in old money)
It has one of those lids where you press the indentation and the opposite side flicks up. The opening for the shampoo to come out is quite small but never seems to clogged up, which is a plus point.
FCUK claim this shampoo " Removes everyday pollutants and unwanted build up from styling products to leave hair clean and refreshed".

USAGE

OK, we all know how to wash hair, the directions are no different to normal so I won't insult you by telling you!
Firstly you need to squeeze the bottle quite firmly otherwise the shampoo won't come out on its own. Handy if you happen to knock it over. For the purpose of this review I put a 2p sized blob in my hand so I could get a good whiff! It is a masculine smell but not overly so, it smells very light with a hint of woody and citrus tones. In fact its very pleasant.
There's nothing worse than putting the shampoo in your palm, going to close the bottle and found the shampoo has run off your hand heading for the plughole! Let me tell you that this shampoo won't do that. Even tipping my hand to the side on purpose it took about 30 secs for the shampoo to even reach the side of my hand, more than enough time to close the lid.
OK, so onto the hair it goes, it lathers very well and normally you would only need a 5p blob if your hair was short. The lather is thick without looking and feeling like a meringue and despite the thickness rinses off well. Washing your hair in this is no different to the way you would wash your hair normally, the difference comes afterwards…..

DOES IT WORK?

In a nutshell, yes. My son has short, fairly dry hair which is made worse by all the cr…...sorry 'styling' products he uses. After using this his hair is not as dry, cleaner and doesn't feel greasy or sticky from the remains of any wax. In fact this shampoo seems to be able to cope with even the strongest hold wax/gels that are around. He uses it 2 or 3 times a week and only needs to lather up once each time. I was also surprised at how gentle this detox shampoo is considering the 'work' it has to do.

BUT, there's not much point in doing this review if I don't use it myself! My hair is completely different, its collar length, soft, fine and flyaway. (the phrase dragged through a hedge backwards springs to mind on a windy day!)

I don't use ANY products on my hair, ….I wash it, brush it and leave it to dry…that's it! So all the detox had to deal with is any pollutants. I really didn't expect it to work as well on my hair or make any difference but I was wrong. The first time I used it I was quite shocked at just how much difference it did make. My hair felt even softer and I got that squeaky clean feeling to it. It even seemed shinier than normal but that may just be me! I've found I only need to use it once a week and it really does remove all the fumes and chemicals.

MY OPINION, THE GOOD AND THE BAD

Firstly, I have to say don't be put off buying this as its a mans product.

Its such a light smell that you really won't notice after washing. Its gentle enough to clean hair thoroughly without stripping any natural oils from it. I was genuinely surprised at the feel of my hair after using this.

It removes even the hardest and waxiest (if that's a word!) of hair waxes, and can still leave my sons hair feeling softer and more hydrated.

The only thing I don't like is the packaging. FCUK style all their bottles the same and you cannot rely of the familiarity of the bottle, otherwise you can quite easily be washing your hair in a shower gel instead. Its OK if you haven't got any other FCUK products but be warned that the deodorant stick is the same shape and design as the hair wax stick! Say no more.

I do not list the ingredients in my review but they are the standard but PLEASE check before you purchase in case you have a particular allergy to any shampoo ingredients. Also remember to avoid contact with the eyes. Immediately rinse with water if this should happen.

At £3.85 its not cheap but then considering how little you need each time it is good value for money. We've had ours for about 8 months now and its still going strong!

I purchased this from Boots as they seem to do a good selection of FCUK products. Ironically looking at the FCUKbymail website you can't buy this as its not listed on there!

So 4/5 stars from me, only losing one because of the packaging.

Hi my partner and I have re read the just takeaway listing and its supposed to be there as it is a site to show online takeaways and their menus, the only thing I've done different is commented on the place rather than give a menu. It is where it should be.
Thanks for reading
