Before I begin reviewing this product I would just like to highlight that I believe FCUK have redesigned their hair product range and instead of the dark blue packaging the FCUK Sculpting Hair Gel is now in a smarter and more professional grey tube with a funky black and white FCUK label on it.
I am forever trying new hair styling products as I am yet to find one that can both fully meet my requirements, and that can keep me interested for any period of time. The FCUK range a very masculine looking range. The neutral fragrance isn't a positive thing in my opinion. Although I can understand why some would prefer this, I would much rather there be a coconut scent or something fresh and exotic. Upon flipping the lid open I were left disappointed due to the neutral scent, but unfortunately the downsides didn't end here.
I find that the gel is of a 'wet-look gel' consistency, and can be applied to either damp or dry hair. I much prefer to apply it to wet hair, as it seems easier to work into damp hair straight after a pat down from the shower. I apply it to my fingertips and simply massage it into the roots of my hair. The product is sold as a sculpting hair gel - it doesn't really live up to this. The consistency doesn't inpire confidence that it is ideal for sculpting - I much prefer a putty consistency for that. The gel gives a very strong and durable hold to my hair. You can apply it and simple comb your hair in place and it will hold firm all day. I prefer to apply it and style it with my fingers for a more 'natural' look - this works just as well. The strength of the hold gives me the confidence that it will stay in place and hold firm for a good length of time. The gel also gives a noticeable and healthy shine, even after many hours of wear.
Priced at around £4 for a 150ml tube doesn't allow it to fall into the 'cheap' category, but it certainly isn't the priciest hair gel I have tried in the past. I do have reservations, however. Overall I don't think it is the best gel on the market for styling your hair. If you are looking for a strong and durable hold then great, but for a more unique and wacky hair style I wouldn't be rushing out to buy this in a hurry.
I've always been convinced that my hair is on inside out. Having a double crown has never helped and basically the stuff has always had a mind of its own. When I get out of bed, that's how it pretty much stays for the rest of the day. No matter how much water I put on it, within 15 minutes it will morph back to either an 'old coconut' (standard bad day) or my speciality 'the Turkish helmet' (stupidly bad day).
One morning I was staring at another mishap atop my bonce and my thoughts turned to an Fcuk gift pack I'd recieved as a present the previous Christmas which included a tube of hair gel and decided to give it a go.
The Fcuk Hold It Sculpting Hair Gel comes in a 150ml dark purple translucent tube. It is easy to squeeze and has a flip top lid which also acts as its base. The gel itself is a transparent substance somewhere between liquid and viscous and has a pleasing fragrant odour. Reading through some of the ingredients on the back of the tube you'd think it had been developed at NASA (sodium methylparaben anyone?) but I guess they have to list these things.
I followed instructions and slapped a generous amount on my towel dried hair- I swear I heard it plead for its life as I tried to generate some sort of style into the shortish foliage. I settled on a spiky sort of thing - the type a schoolboy would give himself to try and look cool at his end of year disco and not the sort a bloke well into his 30s should even think about.
...and then I waited.
Within 20 minutes it had set quite hard with a slight sheen (that could no doubt be mistaken for grease in some quarters) but remained in the questionable style that I had created. I gave it a cautionary rub and it fluffed up a little and lost its glaze. I put a small amount of water over this bit and after a few more minutes it had reset, which for some reason impressed me.
I discovered that after a few more tries (I experimented over the course of a few days) that I didn't need as much of the gel on and subsequently this provided less of a sheen and made it look less oily. I had also by now 'perfected' a style more becoming of my persona and generally banal facial features.
On the whole its a decent product and lasts a few hours, however, I would certainly not recommend it if you intend to do any physical exercise.
I had it on one day when I was playing 5-a-side football indoors, within 10 minutes I started to sweat a bit and my head proceeded to emanate this strange fish-based aroma. As it ran into my eyes it stung like a good 'un and felt like I'd been wiping my eyebrows with raw onions. A schoolboy error, so be warned - it does not mix with exercise too well as old haddock head here found out to his cost.
I'll be honest I don't use the product too much now and that's not because of the previously stated incident which was more my fault than the chaps at Fcuk, it's just that I prefer the natural bedlam of the pre gel days and it was only a bit of an experiment for a week or so anyway. Oh and I got it free. On the price I couldn't say how much it is because it was a gift but it will last you quite a while and give you what you want so I certainly wouldn't detract anyone from purchasing.
I got Fcuk Hold It as part of a set for Christmas and, not really being a fan of gel, put it in the bathroom cabinet long to be forgotten. I eventually used some after running out of my normal product and having nothing else to use and I was pleasantly suprised.
The first thing I noticed was the scent. It smelled like the shower gel that came in the set (Fcuk No.1 I think the scent is called) I had for Christmas and not medicinal as some gels do. It also held pretty well - where some gels make your hair heavy and therefore flop down this produced spikes that stayed in place. It dryed nice and quickly too. I've since used it on damp and dry hair and the best results have come when using it on dry hair - for my style at least. It seems to take to dry hair better, dry faster and also doesn't look as much like "gel hair" as it did when used on damp hair.
The only drawback I've found is that it is, in the end, gel. When you have gel in your hair you can tell just by the way it looks and shines. Personally I like style to look like theres no product in there at all and tend to favour wax or gum but in the right place gel suits. If this is your style then I'd definitely recommend Hold It.
You will probably be aware that Fcuk are one of the main manufacturers of various health and beauty products for both the male and female markets, One product which is great for men especially but also used by females is the Hold It sculpting gel.
This gel comes in a nice looking tube which has the normal shape for a tube of it's kind. The gel's tube contains 50mls in each one and has the Hold it fcuk trademark in white print down the front of the tube. The dark blue finish on the tube looks very nice and In my opinion makes the product look more professional than some other Hair gels around.
Like the majority of hair gels on the market this gel is clear and doesnt require you to have loads of the gel in your hands to spread it on your hair and make the style you want. This gel gives a nice effect and is very easy to use, the gel lasts very well and will give you hours of your chosen style once you have decided what you want.
*Price and availiability*
The most common place I have seen this gel is in Boots but it is also availiable in the likes of superdrug and wilkinsons and also in all the major supermarkets like Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda and Morrisons. The price will be around £1.99 for a 50ml tube but there are great deals to be found in Boots at the moment with the price being £1.75 and with a 3 for 2 offer.
*For Best results*
This is not just fcuk trying to get money out of you but this gel will work even better after you have used the fcuk daily detox shampoo and fcuk daily conditioner. It really does give an even better shine and look as opposed to using a rival shampoo with it.
This is a very good hair gel indeed and will last longer than many hair gels on the market. It gives a nice wet look and is easy to wash out so there's not many reasons why you shouldnt buy this gel. If you are looking for a new hair gel then look no further than this as it is a very good one.
