It's always very difficult when you move house because you have to build up so many relationships again, particularly when you're moving to a different part of the country. Having built up a relationship with a hairdresser over the years who knows you and exactly what you like doing, it's daunting to say the least to start all over again!
There are quite a few salons around here, so the perennial question of 'Where do you start?' rears its head again. I chose Francesco's for two reasons. Firstly it had a very good and comprehensive website, so I knew in advance what I was going into. Secondly, it had a prime city centre location which I could easily get to.
You might be forgiven for not having seen the branch before, as it's tucked up a tiny pedestrian route between Market Street and the car park. The premises are quite small, and I can understand them trying to move to a larger shop on one of the main streets.
I was very impressed with this branch, not least because of their real concern for the needs of the individual. When I arrived, the hairdresser sat down with me to discuss what I wanted doing. We talked about what I'd had done before and whether there was anything I wanted to change or improve on. She made hot drinks and offered biscuits, and I felt thoroughly spoilt and pampered.
I'm not that into hair styling - I just like something which is easy to manage! She made some good suggestions about how my current hairstyle could just be tweaked slightly to make this easier. I felt confident to go with these, and the result has been fantastic. Whereas previously, I'd spent time every morning just trying to get it to not stick up all over the place, it now lies down perfectly, and it even looks like it has a style!
The hairdresser was chatty while she was working, but in a nice way. Some can be very overpowering and you can feel like they're expecting you to tell them your life history!
The price was good too. It would have been £24 for the men's cut and blow dry, which was £6 cheaper than I'd been paying before we moved. However, this time I had a voucher for £10 off, so I thought that at £14, it was a real bargain. I know I could get it done cheaper, but I'd rather pay for the good service and quality result! They also offer a discount for NUS card holders. They offer a loyalty scheme, and when you've collected so many points, you get £10 off (technical cut and finish 4 points, technical and finish 3 points, cut and finish 2 points, and finish 1 point). An excellent scheme!
Overall, I was just really impressed with the way as I was treated as an individual. There was none of this "Lots of people are doing x, y and z at the moment" which so often seems to be the case.
Summary: Highly, highly recommended! I'll be back in a few weeks...
