- About the product
This product is available in 50ml and 250ml bottles, I bought two 50ml bottles as I wanted to take them on holiday with me and these smaller bottles are a great size for traveling. This shampoo is part of the Frizz-Ease range from John Frieda, which also contains a straight shampoo as well as this one for curly hair. The product claims: "awakens and improves natural curl patterns for shiny, salon-style spirals".
- Appearance, consistency and scent of the product
The shampoo itself is a off white pearly colour and it looks quite metallic, which is quite pretty. It has a fairly thick consistency and a smooth texture. The scent of this shampoo is one of my favorite things about this shampoo. The scent is really nice, it is really sweet and floral - it is the best smelling shampoo I have ever used! It smells gorgeous but unfortunately to scent does not transfer to my hair too well.
- Using the shampoo
Firstly I brush my hair to get all of the tangles out of it and it also makes my hair a lot easier to wash if I brush it first. I then take about a 10 pence size amount of shampoo and start to lather it, but I find that this shampoo does not lather at all really. The consistency of the product is really nice and I thought it would lather well but when applying this product into my hair it feels like I am applying conditioner to my hair - which is a little strange as it feels like I am trying to wash my hair with a conditioner. The shampoo actually does not lather up and while it is in my hair it does not really feel like it is cleansing my hair.
As I can not lather this shampoo into my hair, that also means that I can not really cleanse my scalp with this shampoo. I find that when I am using this shampoo what I am doing is smoothing the shampoo over my hair and it seems to magically clean my hair well that way but as I can not lather the shampoo I can not really cleanse my scalp with this shampoo, which is not good for me as my roots do tend to get a bit oily.
I then rinse the shampoo out, it is very easy to rinse out and it does not take long to rinse all of the shampoo out of my hair - it probably only takes a couple of minutes. After I have rinsed out all of the product, I then wash my hair again with the same shampoo as my hair is long and thick.
Overall, I was not impressed with this shampoo in terms of applying the shampoo as it does not lather up at all, which is not good for my scalp - although it does seem to cleanse my hair well. But it does smell really really nice, like a expensive salon scent which is gorgeous.
I am undecided about the results from this product as there are some positives but there are also some negatives. The positives are as follows: the shampoo, even though it felt like it really didn't clean my hair as it did not lather up at all, actually made my hair look and feel really clean - which was quite surprising. It also made my hair feel quite smooth, soft and quite tangle free, which is great but now for the negatives. The shampoo did not make my hair curlier/more wavy - my hair is naturally wavy and I thought that this product would emphasize my wavy hair but it didn't really - It might have made my hair a little bit more wavier but not a lot at all. The gorgeous scent of the shampoo also didn't transfer to my hair, which was disappointing as I love the scent.
- Overall positives
Overall the main things I like about this product are as follows: the scent is just gorgeous, it smells sweet and floral. I also like that this shampoo really cleans my hair well, even though it does not lather up and it also makes my hair smoother, softer and mostly tangle free. The last positive about this product is that I don't really use up too much of the shampoo, I took two of these bottles on holiday with me and they were really handy and I only used one bottle (and a little bit of the second bottle) in the week, which is great, as usually I can go through half a bottle of shampoo in a week.
- Overall negatives
Overall the main things I didn't like about this product are as follows: the amazing scent does not really transfer to my hair, which was a bit disappointing. The shampoo does not lather, but it does clean my hair and it feels a bit strange to use this product as it feel like I am applying conditioner to my hair. This shampoo is good for cleaning your hair but it is not good for cleaning your scalp as you can not lather the shampoo.
- Price and availability
I bought two of the 50ml bottles from superdrug and they are priced at £1.99 each and the 250ml normal sized bottle is priced at £5.09 at superdug. The 250ml shampoo and matching conditioner are priced at £5.29 in boots. John Freida products are also usually sold in large supermarkets such as Tesco and asda too. There is a straight shampoo and conditioner, which is part of this frizz-ease line of products too.
*Easy to apply and rinse out
* Fairly nice packaging and this shampoo also comes in a small 50ml travel size bottle as well as the normal 250ml bottle
* Smells divine! Sweet and floral
* Seems to cleanse my hair really well
* I didn't need to use lots of the product to clean my hair
* Does not really make my hair curlier or emphasize my hairs natural waves
* Does not lather up, so it does not feel like it is cleansing my hair and as it does not lather up it also means that I can not really cleanse my scalp
* The gorgeous scent does not really transfer to my hair
* A little bit expensive - especially as it does not live up to its main claim (which is to improve/awaken natural curling patterns)
Thank you for reading my review
In the sales I went to Boots (surprise surprise!) and I had a nosey about. While I was in the store I found myself looking at my latest obsession. Hair Care products!
It's all Boot's fault actually for giving me loads of £2.00 vouchers off hair products in the first place over Christmas and me using them. Instead of me using what ever sits in the bathroom or picking stuff up in Poundland that will 'do the job' I find myself now in the higher end of the market of purchasing big name products cos to be fair it's better to pick up stuff you think you need rather than whatever's cheap! I'm now officially obsessed with my hair!
I remember using John Frieda products years ago. It promised amazing promises and in honesty I never got them. So never again did I buy. Since then a massive John Frieda Frizz-Ease collection adorns the shelves and I've passed them by in reminiscence of days gone by and the disappointment I had felt.
However looking around I thought in for a penny in for a pound and decided to once again try some stuff from the Frizz-Ease range.
.... Is a mop. Its dyed jet black. It's stressed out cos in the past year it's gone from being blonde, to dark red, to ginger to black in quick succession. It's just below shoulder length and it's straight at the roots and thicker at the ends. I always have loads of split ends no matter what I do. My hair is naturally wavy. I get out of the shower or bath and I almost have ringlets which drop out and I style straight with my straighteners. However couple of hours later you can see waves forming and I have a definite cows lick at my fringe. Last time I had my hair cut my hairdresser wouldn't listen and decided to put a fringe in against all my protests. When done she said you couldve told me you had a quiff! I was so charmed... not lol
So seeing this range of 'Curl Around' products I thought curls will make a nice change!
What I Bought....
Well I bought the Curl Around Daily Shampoo and the Curl Around Daily Conditioner. However I will review the conditioner separately due to the fact that some people will only want one product or the other etc.
300ml White recyclable bottle. Very simple packaging. Tells us what it is on the front. On the back tells us what it promises, directions and ingredients. The contents is a white iridescent cream. Quite runny but I wouldn't call it a liquid. It smells fruity like a bag of sweets and rather yummy!
How It Works...
Reawakens and invigorates your natural curl patterns for shapely styling results
Specially developed with a curl-enhancing complex, targeted moisturizers and frizz-fighting silicone
Features a nourishing formula that's the first step toward creating gorgeous, salon-style spirals
Moisturizes and smooths the hair cuticle.
Apply shampoo to wet hair. Gently massage and work into a rich lather. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.
My hair previous to using it had felt really dry. I hadn't washed my hair for two days which is a record for me but I'd been so busy with Christmas! I'd been out in the cold and running around the shop sales and my hair felt really dirty (I'm a smoker too) and dried out.
Upon application I could feel the moisture going into my hair and I didn't need a lot (about size of a 10p) to get a great lather and I rinsed it through twice. The smell was lovely and before I applied the conditioner I looked in the bathroom mirror and my curls did look more defined and smooth.
Now I've used this with the matching conditioner and other conditioners. There is little difference between the end result on my hair. There is no doubt that the shampoo leaves hair clean, frizz is very slightly reduced but it's not going to give you beautiful curls without some work and that's providing that you have some curls in first place. What it does give is body and helps reduce a fluffy look. It doesn't make roots greasy and it doesn't make the ends look straggly. Hair feels very smooth and it gives a nice shine but not any more shiny than much less expensive products.
For me though this product isn't appropriate as an every day shampoo. It does make a visible difference to my curls but still not even not to wear like that without putting curlers in and things as once dried my hair just turns into waves.
This is only a base towards curly locks and on it's own I can't imagine anyone would see a massive difference to warrant the price unless you have very naturally curly hair or a perm.
£4.48 Per bottle (Boots).
