The product I am reviewing is by Fudge which is a well-known hair care brand which some of you may or may not have heard of. Fudge does a huge range of products including shampoo, conditioner, mousse, hair-spray, styling products and more. Whatever hair you have you should be able to find a range of products suitable for you. Although I have heard of this brand before, I have only just recently decided to try some of their products. The product I am reviewing is a colour lock shampoo which is for use on coloured hair. The creamy, rich shampoo claims to lock in colour and also helps to reduce colour fade which results in longer lasting and more intensified colour. I actually colour my hair frequently and I find that it can start looking dull after a month or so. I have used many different shampoos, conditioner and other products for coloured hair and whilst I do have a few favourites which work well, I wanted to try something new.
I think Fudge is more of a salon range, so I expected their products to be reasonably good and maybe even slightly better than cheaper products that are available to purchase in shops. The shampoo comes in a tall plastic bottle which is round and white in colour. The label on the front of the bottle has the Fudge logo and it clearly states that this is a fudge product. On the front it also states that this is the 'Colour Lock' Shampoo and extends the life of hair colour. On the back of the bottle it tells you a little about the product and how to use it. This information is in various different languages. A list of ingredients can be found at the bottom of the bottle on the back. The bottle reminds me a little of Aussie hair products as its very simple looking. The top of the bottle is orange and there is a small section cut pout of the orange plastic part which you press and it opens the bottle. This can be pressed back down again to close the bottle after use. It's actually the same style as the bottle of Aussie Shampoo & Conditioner and dispenses in exactly the same way. When opening the bottle and smelling it, I can't actually smell anything from the shampoo, so hopefully this would smell more once the product has been dispensed and used.

I purchased product from the Fudge website (www.fudgehair.co.uk). I purchased this along with the conditioner in a value pack which was priced at £14.22 which I think is reasonable for a 300ml bottle of shampoo and also a 300ml bottle of conditioner. You can purchase the shampoo on its own which is currently priced at £7.11; how-ever the full price of the shampoo is £10.16. They actually currently have the entire range of products reduced on the Fudge website.

Using the Product

I wet my hair as normal under the shower, ensuring that the lengths and the ends were completely wet. I then press the orange part on the top of the bottle of shampoo and squeezed the bottle a little to dispense some of the shampoo into my hand. I was only going to use a small amount as I have quite fine hair so I never need to use a lot of shampoo anyway. As I squeezed the bottle the shampoo flowed out of the bottle easily and was a lovely pearlised beige colour which wasn't too thick but at the same time wasn't really runny either. There was a nice, slightly sweet smell to the shampoo which I really liked. I rubbed the shampoo into my hair which created a nice lather, although the lather wasn't as rich as some shampoo's I have used in the past.
The scent of the product wasn't actually that strong and I could only smell it very slightly. After ensuring my hair felt clean, I then rinsed the shampoo out of my hair. The product was really easy to rinse out and you can tell once the shampoo has been washed out as the water will start running clear. Although I purchased the conditioner in this range, I wanted to see how the shampoo performed on its own so I wasn't actually going to use the conditioner on this occasion. After squeezing out the excess moisture I wrapped my hair in a towel for a good 5/10mins to ensure that it wasn't dripping wet when getting round to dry it. I used a wide toothed comb in my hair and there weren't any tangles or knots which was a good start. I could no longer really smell the shampoo which was a shame as the scent of it was so nice. I used a hair-dryer to dry my hair as normal and would assess the results afterwards.

After blow drying my hair I looked in the mirror at the results. Although I had just used the shampoo on it's own without the conditioner, my hair did actually look bright and vibrant and I was impressed by this from using the shampoo alone. My hair not only looked clean and vibrant but it felt really clean as well. I didn't think the shampoo made my hair feel that soft, how-ever I suspect when using the conditioner with this product this will give much better results. The good thing about the product is that it left no residue in my hair and it didn't make my head itchy either which I sometimes find with other shampoo's and hair products. My hair stayed looking and feeling clean for at least 2 days before washing it again. I normally wash my hair every 3rd day unless the product I am using makes it greasy, how-ever with this shampoo it didn't make my hair greasy before I was due to wash my hair.

I have to admit that although I have never tried a product in this range before, I did have high hopes of it and expected it to be quite good after reading some of the reviews on the Fudge website. The packaging to the product is very simple and does remind me a lot of the 'Aussie' hair care range and products due to the shape and style of the bottle as well as having the same kind of opening to dispense the product. I found the product really easy to apply and I loved the light, sweet scent that the product has. The shampoo had the type of scent I would like my hair to smell of after using the product, how-ever I was disappointed that the scent of the product didn't stay in my hair and was pretty much non existent by the time the shampoo had been washed out. My hair did appear to look more vibrant and slightly brighter when using the shampoo alone; how-ever it didn't appear softer. It is advisable to use the conditioner after this shampoo so I think you would probably get better results when using the two products together. I only tested the shampoo on it's own to see what the results were like. In terms of value the product is more expensive than other brands that are available, how-ever I think this is probably one of the 2nd best colour shampoo's I have purchased and tried before as my hair does appear much brighter, healthy and more vibrant. I would definitely purchase this product again.
Expect my review of the Fudge Colour Lock Conditioner to follow shortly.

Firstly, this shampoo smells gorgeous. It has a sweet scent that smells a little like toffee, yum yum!
The shampoo lathers up really well. It delivers a good thick lather that's both rich and creamy in consistency.
You only need a small amount of this shampoo each time that you use it as a little goes a long way.
The shampoo is easy to wash with. It rinses out easily too without leaving any residue on your hair after use. You can use this shampoo daily and it won't build up in your hair. After rinsing out the shampoo my hair is left feeling soft and shiny. The shampoo does actually help to lock the colour into my hair. The shampoo doesn't rinse the colour from my hair at all. Also, the shampoo leaves a gorgeous scent wafting from my hair and the scent hangs around for days.
The shampoo also helps to detangle my hair, making it easier to manage.
I would recommend this shampoo to people who colour their hair as it really does help to prolong hair colour and/ or highlights. It's a little expensive compared to the usual shampoos that I buy but it is worth it.
It helps to rebuild damaged hair, leaving it looking healthier and stronger.
My hair was yellow and looked awful after visiting the hairdressers. I had used purple/silver shampoos previously from high street shops but none worked well enough to get rid of the horrible yellow tone in my hair.
The yellow tones are completely gone and my hair is more like platinum blonde and silver. When I leave the shampoo on for a while the bleach blonde parts of my hair go light purple. You only need to use a small amount each time you use - it lathers up well.
Occasionally the shampoo will stain my scalp (until I next wash it) and my nails a little. Be careful as this shampoo seems to get all over my shower/bath and is best to be washed clean immediately. The product could stain in between bathroom tiles if left.
You can control the amount of silver/purple by leaving it on for different periods of time. Under 5 minutes for a quick wash with a silvery affect and 5-20 minutes (if you have time) to make your hair purple. It takes a couple of weeks from first use for the yellow tones to be removed from hair.
Make sure to use conditioner regularly as my hair often becomes dry with frequent use of the shampoo - I do use every other day, try to mix with regular shampoo too.
It smells lovely - like purple grape juice!
