Advantages: Good for already straight hair, as a finishing iron., Cheaper than GHD

Disadvantages: Bulky, not for small pieces of hair, Don't create poker straight hair on v. curly hair, Too time consuming

I have had years of thick, curly, frizzy and very coarse hair, so when the fashion became to have poker straight hair, I nearly died. I fought with a set of metal plated straighteners which used steam, (before the ceramic ones came along) I tried blowdrying it straight, but still it looked like 'candy floss'.

I went out and bought a pair of Futura irons, for £40ish, a lot cheaper than the GHD ones. But I had read reviews saying that you pay for performance. I totally felt that this was the case with the Futura irons. My sister, who has straight hair anyway, told me they were great. I immediately ordered a pair, and as soon as they arrived I tried them out. I was there for longer with these than I was with the traditional, metal plated straighteners. I found them too big to work with, they didn't glide through my hair like the ones my hairdresser used (which were GHD), and I had to really push down on them to achieve any straightening at all (which hurts your hands after 10 minutes). I felt like they were tearing my hair to pieces.
I ended up with a wavy mess, not poker straight hair.

I battled with my conscience for a long time before I bought the Futura, deciding whether to go for the expensive option, but my sanity told me that they must all do the same job. Well they all reach the same temperatures, so they must achieve the same result? Not so, as I found out. I went out straight away and got a set of GHDs, and OMG it is true, price is definately relative to performance. It took me 1/3 of the time to do my hair with the GHDs, and the result is absolutely AMAZING.
I sold my Futura to my mate, who has straight hair, but just wanted a finishing iron, which is all these are really good for to be honest. They are great for those with 'easy' hair, just to add a final touch. But they are definately not for those of us with 'pre-raphelite' locks!

I am sorry you didnt find your Futuras up to scratch but i have to disagree,i cant live without them!My hair is a fluffball, and thats putting it politely, abd the Futuras leave them poker straight. They are my favorite straighteners and i think they are just as good as GHDs.
