The story so far
I love experimenting with hair colour, however it doesn't always turn out according to plan. My favourite shade to go is black, the blackest black possible and when previously experiments go pear shaped, my motto, if in doubt, dye it black has served me well!
My recent attempt to go back to my natural mid brown didn't really go according to plan as I'm sure some of your are aware. I'd given my hair a week or so, and a few washes after my last dying disaster to try and rectify the situation. This was my last resort before going to the hairdressers with my tail between my legs and getting her to sort it out. This of course would get expensive, so I was hoping going back to black would solve my problems.
The Product and Price
Most colours of dye give varying results on the shade of hair you are dying, hence my patchy results with lighter shades. The little diagram on the back of Garnier's 100% Colour in 210 (Intense Blue Black) showed one result for all hair colours. Good news.
I bought this dye over others as it was on offer in Tesco for just £3.37. Not bad at all for a branded dye, good even, for an own brand. This was about 3 weeks ago, I'm not sure if the offer is still on. I belive the product is around the £5 price mark proper price.
Before I started
With black more than any other colour I am so careful when using it. The entire floor is covered with paper with old black clothing on, old black towel, mirror, comb and stopwatch to hand. I cover my hair line, ears and most of my face with Vaseline as this stuff stains! Even be careful washing this out if you use it. You may think the danger is over by then but even the dyed water will stain things.
Using the product
My pet hate with hair dyes, this one had those horrible polythene gloves that are a real pain and too big which makes everything a lot messier.
Struggling somewhat with these, I add the tube of colourant to the developer bottle and gave it a good shake it doesn't take long before the mixture turns from white to brown to bluely grey liquid.
I liked the fact that ther was a pop out section in the box, that meant it could be used as a bottle holder, a great idea.
Missing a bit with a black dye is really going to notice so I take time to make sure I cover every bit of hair with the dye. This is time consuming. Confident it's all covered, the instructions tell my to wait 20-30 minutes. I wait for the full 30 to ensure everything is dyed as dark as it can be.
After the 30 minutes is up, I rinse off the dye, apply the conditioner supplied, leave a few minutes and rinse off (carefully) and can instantly see the difference.
Success!! A beautiful shade of blue black covered every little bit of my hair evenly. My hair is glossy and manageable and I'm a happy bunny.
Alas, with all black dyes on my hair, a few weeks in it's fading, the blue has all but gone and I now have black-very dark brown hair. It's still even and a nice colour, aswell as being good condition.
It seems as though I'm not going to have natural colour for a long while. When the roots start showing I'm going to have to start again, a regular job to add to my list, but I do think it's worth it as I'm loving my colour at last!
Summary: Good product
