I have longish hair below my shoulders and to be honest being a mother of 2 I don't generally have much time to do anything with it, bad days it's tied up and stays pretty well itself and good days it's down and a brush is as far as I get. If however on the odd occasion we are going out I do like to make an effort and therefore want a product that is going to keep my hard work in place.
One such time when I knew I didn't want my hair to let me down was my wedding, as a friend was doing my hair for the day we had a couple of run throughs and tried a couple of ways for keeping it in place to find the best and this product came out top.
This product is referred to as a fixing spray rather than a hairspray and comes in the usual vivid green that all Fructis products seem to be in. The tin holds 250ml of product and as I have had mine a while i have had a look and it seems to sell for about £2.50 a tin , this is more than double the supermarkets own brands.
They claim that it has stay put hold and control with all day long fixing power and shine. The science bit behind this is the micro hold formula sprays on evenly without clumping or stickiness , it dries instantly for perfect strong hold all day. So does it work then? it does spray out of the tin quite gently and therefore doesn't effect your style before you have even finished with it so yes this claim is true. Next no clumping and stickiness, yes I give it this one too as I hate the sticky feeling on my hair with hairspray and I didn't get it from this. I would not however agree that it dries instantly although it doesn't take too long to dry.
So does it really hold? My hair I should point out is not only long but also thick, it never holds any curls and there is not alot I can get it to do, on my wedding day my hair was twisted up and then curled to cascade down so this was about the worst test I could honestly have given the product. Well....this product is fantastic, my hair was put in place by about 10.30am and by the time I was married it had not moved an inch, we got married in February so when we were having photos outside it was in wind and drizzle yet it did not move. From this point of the day if it had dropped or lost the curls I wouldnt have really been that bothered however after about 12 hours I took my hair out and the curls still remained, I was actually amazed.
I could not recommend this product highly enough it is fantastic and I would buy it at twice the price knowing that it would not let me down. Another plus is that it actually smells fruity and not at all what you would expect from hairspray.
My hair is so unbelievably thick that it's virtually impossible to handle and style. After washing it, I always leave it to dry naturally, because a) that is a lot easier than blow drying it and b) it seems to be less frizzy and static this way. Even so, it still goes frizzy and even when I straighten it several times it doesn't completely settle down.
My friend recommended to me the Garnier fructis style range, as I asked a few people I know who use hair products on their hair which is best, as I never normally do. I went to Tesco and found this and thought I'd give it a go as it sounded as though it could be a good solution to my problem.
It claimed to protect hair against humidity and fly-away frizz as well at the same time as styling and keeping an ultimate hold with no visible residue, just your healthy-looking, natural shine. As it was £1.25, I didn't think it was too bad compared to all the other top hair-care brands.
I've now been using it for quite a while, it's become one of my favourite products. It does what it says it will do, to my hair; I've had a lot of compliments since I've begun using it. Not only do I use it on my hair before straightening, but when I just don't have enough time to (or can't be bothered), I spray some of this on and I can emphasise my natural waves, without them looking bed-head like. It works just the same on your hair if it's wet or dry, which is good.
Sometimes, if I have a long day out then I like to top it up at least once as it can lose its effect after a period of about 6 hours, but I still think it's brilliant. There's no sticky feeling or stiff hairspray look that comes with it. I find it is better to spray it on to your hands first and then scrunch it in to your hair rather than spray it directly on, just as I find it easier to style this way.
Another bonus is that it smells delightful, really fruity and sweet without being overpowering.
If this product appeals to you or you have similar problems as I did with your hair, then I completely recommend it.
I have very unruly hair which looks lovely for about five minutes after it has been washed and styled. Then unfortunately the heat and moisture hits it and I look like I have popped my finger into an electric socket. I am always on the look-out for new products to try which will at least go some way to taming this very unfortunate beast. I saw this particular product on a deal in my local Boots the chemist so I thought that I would give it a try. Well nothing ventured nothing gained as the saying goes!! New Garnier Fructis Anti-Frizz Fixing Spray Sleek & Shine.
This particular hairspray cost £1.49. It comes in a very attractive green canister which has a glossy sheen to it. I believe that this is the trademark colour for Garniers Fructis range of products. It has a spray nozzle and a button which you press to release the liquid inside. It gives the name of the product and states that this is the sleek and shine version which has extra strong hold. The product stands out on the shelf a mile away compared to other similar products, probably due to its vibrant colour scheme. It certainly draws your attention first.
What the Manufacturer Says
This product apparently will fix and prolong your straight hairstyle. Its anti-frizz fixing formula protects your straightened hair even in humid conditions. Thanks to its light micro-diffusion (whatever that is). It holds the hair in place without the "helmet" effect. So the hair will not look stiff and keeps its natural healthy-looking shine.
How to Use
This item is extremely easy to administer and can be used in a variety of ways. After shampooing/conditioning drying and straightening my hair. I spray this evenly all over my finished style. Then throughout the day I touch up my hair with this also. I spray some straight onto my hands for this time however and apply directly onto fly aways.
Initially this product goes some way to reducing frizz on my hair. It lives up to some of its promises in that it certainly does not leave hair feeling heavy and waxy like some similar products do. The hair remains soft and natural which is rather refreshing. The formula is light and is not sticky except when applied to the hands first. However it is not supposed to be used in this manner. I always do this with hairspray after learning the tip from a hair magazine!!
Unfortunately the fragrance associated with this product was extremely disappointing. It was exceptionally over-powering initially and had a very chemical odour to it. Once it settled down though it eased off and was actually relatively pleasant. Making the hair smell fresh and clean. This surprised me as the Fructis range usually has a lovely fragrance. For me however I was a little disappointed with the product itself as it wasn't effective for long like most products I try. My hair became frizzy in its usual ten minutes and no amount of reapplying this product helped. I also found that the more I put on the more matted it felt so unfortunately it is another hair care product that unfortunately doesn't work for me. As a result 3 stars for the initial look this product gives. The fragrance and performance for me let it down. (Probably just due to my hair type in fairness though).
I've done a couple hairspray reviews before. Hairspray makes me thoroughly miserable but I do really need it sometimes, especially for 'up do's' My hair can be very soft, silky and straight (after straightening) and I do end up with very fine looking hair so I need some hairspray! Though I haven't found a hairspray yet that doesn't feel grimy, flaky, sticky, dull, the list goes on to the super glue in the can! So when I saw this I did think about purchasing it cos I hate hairspray so much! lol
What It Promises.....
Garnier Fructis Style combines fixing agents with fruit micro-waxes, chosen for their ability to fortify and protect hair during styling.
Result: A strong, long-lasting hold, for hair during styling.
To fix and prolong your straight hairstyle. The Anti-Frizz fixing formula protects your straightened hair even in humid conditions. Thanks to it's light micro-diffusion, your hair is held in place without the 'helmet' effect: your hair doesn't feel stiff and keeps it's natural healthy-looking shine.
Bright green 250ml can with aerosol action. On the front I'm told it is indeed Garnier Fructis Styling Anti-Frizz Fixing Spray (part of the sleek & shine range). Also it's Extra strong hold. On the back states what I've already told you about the product. How to use it, ingredients and cautions involving an aerosol can. It's quite a nice bright can and I do like the integrated push button action. The can looks exactly as in the review photograph.
How To Use....
Apply to finished style. Preferably straight hair of course!
It's a really nice product. It smells a little sweet and of fruit oils but is none distinct and light smelling so isn't like spraying contents from a fruit bowl on your head! (I hate that!)
It comes out in a steady mist, and sets the hair the same as hairspray. It's none sticky and I find it best to spray from half an arms length otherwise it can get your hair clumping and gluing sections together. I find over the top of my straightened hair, particularly my 'kinky' fringe it really does hold it without feeling like I've got something on my hair controlling it. It just feels very natural and not at all grimy, even after it's been on your head all day.
Another great thing about this is that after straightening my hair, sometimes I can see I've missed bit a bit of hair that isn't as straight as I'd like it to be. Well with this with a little spray and a little comb, 'voila' job done so it does the job you would expect from a fixing spray! Happy days!
In this weather, the claims that humidity doesn't affect it is an important one. I'm out and about shopping and stuff alot, in and out of warm shops, trying on clothes and the likes then out in the damp and drizzle. Does humidity upset it? Nope not in any way shape or form. What about the shine? Yes gives it. Well it does say it encompasses fruit oils in it after all! It isn't extreme shine in a can don't get me wrong but it doe's help with that and certainly takes none away that you've achieved with other products.
Also it's great on 'up does'. Because my hair is in such great condition, when it's straightened it wants to fall out of a pony tail or a chignon and tumble down. Again not with this product. It naturally stays in place and you don't need loads of it!
A really nice and easy, none sticky product to use on anyone with straight hair. It eradicates my hair of frizz, holds my style all day long and helps with shine. I simply couldn't ask for any more than that! Really great and really recommended!
I purchased my can in Sainsbury's on offer for £1.49 but it's normally about £2.99 a can in places such as Boot's and Superdrug but can occasionally be found in pound shops and the likes!
A spray that gives you style hold and protects hair from humidity and fly-away frizz /
