I got this years ago, when shampoos that promised to make your hair straight weren't everywhere, and anything that did had a tendency to come home with me, especially with a price like this (£3)
The product comes in a clear plastic bottle, nice, effective, the water doesn't get in, the product doesn't get out, what more can you ask for?
As opposed to other shampoos from Garnier, this one is a clear liquid with a yellowish/greenish tint, it's very runny but it seems to be because of the oil it claims to contain. It also doesn't smell like fruit (that's Garnier's smell, if you're not familiar with it).
This contains apricot and argan oil from Morocco and claims to give the hair shine amd keep it sleek and frizz free, even with humidity.
The claims in the shampoo are limited but not very true. Comparing this to any other shampoo, the only difference I notice is that it's much more gentle. It definitely didn't make
my hair silky and soft (let's be honest, that's impossible for me without a ton of conditioner) but it didn't make it as bone-dry as other shampoos. I also noticed that, yes, my hair did feel smoother after using it. However, I still had my fair share of frizz and, having tried it under every single weather condition, I can tell you that I still look like an electrified poodle after going out in the rain.
Would I recommend it? It depends, it's quite a moisturizing shampoo and I've had friends with normal hair who've tried it tell me that it made their hair greasy, so if your hair anything other than dry, I'd advice that you stay away from it. But, if your hair is as dry as mine, absolutely, go for it, your hair will love it.
I like using these kinds of shampoo but I do find that sometimes the fructis shampoos all smell quite similar, in a citrus way. There are more nicer smelling shampoos out there for less
I picked up a bottle of Garnier Fructis Fortifying Sleek & Shine Shampoo a few weeks back as it was on sale for only 99p in Home Bargains. This is the place where I purchase most of my personal care items as it's just so much cheaper than the supermarket. I remember using this particular shampoo a long time back and for some reason I had stopped using it. I spotted this due to the lovely bright green tall bottle on the shelf. I opened the flip top lid whilst I was still in the shop, had a little sniff and decided to try another bottle again after all this time. I figured than if it was rubbish, I'd only be losing 99p.
I have used this shampoo now lots of times over the past few weeks and I have to say I actually really like it. I cannot for the life of me fathom why I stopped using it before. I have greasy roots on my hair and the ends are dry, so it can be slightly problematic trying to find a suitable shampoo for my hair type.
This shampoo lathers up really well on wet hair. In fact, I was really very impressed y how little shampoo I actually need to use in order to achieve a massive amount of foam and suds. The smell is gorgeous. It reminds me of fruit, but really fresh and citrussy fruit and it's really quite an invigorating smell.
It rinses off well and afterwards when my hair is dried and styled there is a noticeable difference in the shine my hair has. It's also great for keeping greasy roots at bay for longer and it doesn't dry out the ends of my hair, as some other shampoos can do.
The bottle seems to just last for ages and this is because I hardly need to use any. I think this is the sort of shampoo which is suitable for general everyday use. I have also used it on my daughter a few times and I notice how lovely her hair smells for days afterwards. It makes my hair look and feel healthy with added volume and shine, and I think that for only 99p, it's well worth trying a bottle.
I remember about 15 years ago watching a report on Watch Dog about how poor Fructis shampoo was and how it lead to people having greasy hair and so I never ever bought this shampoo but it still remained in the shop so when this was on offer in my local supermarket I thought that I would give it a go and see if it had improved since that report I mean sure it had to else why was it still selling? I'm glad I did buy it as now it's my preferred shampoo!
It comes in a very vibrant green bottle and stands upright. It's not a round bottle but is quite thin and tall. It doesn't look like a very elegant shampoo so I keep this in the cupboard, it hasn't earned a place on display on the shelf!
The lid opens as a flip lid but it's not at all stiff. Sometimes my fingers a little numb and it can be difficult to open lids but I've never had a problem with this one so far so that's good. I think flip lids are easier to use when in the shower anyway when you have soap on your hands and your vision may not be it's best. The shampoo is not very thick, it is probably the most watery of all the shampoos I've used recently and so because of this I think I sometimes get too much out so it's a good job it isn't expensive!
The smell is really nice and fruity, it isn't a specific fruit but more just a fruit salad kind of smell which is not too powerful so nice to put on hair. It lathers up really well, you get lots of suds from this which always makes me think that I'm getting a good hair wash and I don't have to work hard either to get it to lather up.
I also use the conditioner that goes with this product. I don't know what it is but I always feel like I can't mix and match, always stick to the same brand and specifics for shampoo and conditioner! I think maybe it's so I feel they will have the most impact or will compliment each other I don't know but I've never use two different brands!
It is supposed to make your hair sleek and shiny and I have to say that it does! My hair is always so fresh looking after this, so nice and shiny and it feels really nice. It doesn't feel heavy and it smells nice too my husband likes to comment on my hair when it's been washed and one thing he always points out is the smell, he says it's nice that it smells fruity instead of soapy like with other shampoo! I guess he is right! I do like how this makes my hair look and feel. I do use it every other day as feel any longer than this then my hair begins to look lank and greasy.
I am glad I bought this, I had doubted how good it would be after the poor reports when it first came out but it has definitely improved since then and I now really like using it and buy it regularly.
My hair has always troubled me. I suffer with greasy roots and a very dry mid section, I dye my hair rather often and use alot of heated appliances on it but the thing that I hate the most is frizz.....and that's the worst thing my hair suffers with in my opinion!
At the time I bought a bottle of this on offer in Asda costing only a pound though it seems to very readily in all good supermarkets and chemists for usually closer to the £2.00 a bottle mark and there is a matching conditioner available to buy as well if you want to!
This shampoo comes in green coloured plastic bottle and contains 250ml of the product and it has a flip top lid to the top of it concealing a small hole then on the front of the bottle we are clearly told what it is and who it is by then on the back of the bottle we are told a bit about the product and how to use it, the ingredients are listed as is the size and contact details for the manufacturer are clearly given. Nice enough and informative bottle this is.
The Shampoo Itself:
Well I found this gel like product to be rather runny however a little of this on damp/wet hair it lathers up into a nice thick rich white lather really well and it has a lovely summery fragrance of fruits to it which is rather natural and not in your face and once my hair is dried I can smell the fragrance of this on my hair for rather a long time.
I simply wet my hair, use this and lather it up, rinse and then repeat before using the matching conditioner and I have to admit to rather liking this one and feel I found a bit of a bargain with it!
Not only after using this does my hair smell really fresh and clean, my hair and scalp feels it too. My hair is left untangled, soft to the touch and once I have dried my hair and before styling I can tell my hair feels softer and silkier and that there is less frizz. My hair is easier to style after having used this and frizz stays at bay longer, my hair feels soft and bouncy like their is no residue left on my strands though my hair is generally less flyaway and the gloss my hair is left with is superb and really long lasting. Like I say I always use the matching conditioner to this one for optimum results and I have been really pleased with this value for money, quality product!

Having run out of my normal shampoo and conditioner, I saw this in the pound shop and thought that it might just be the one to tame my frizz! Its been many many years since I have used Fructis hair products, so didn't have any real expectations as to what to expect.
It comes in the standard Fructis packaging, which is a vivid (possibly even garish) lime green coloured plastic. The lid is a flip top which is ok, however when a shampoo gets to the last dregs I like to be able to stand it upside down so you can get all the product out without taking the lid off completely- And with this one you can't as it has a big bobble on it! But the packaging looks good, and no one can deny that the Fructis brand is instantly recognisable.
Garnier claim that this shampoo is for frizzy rebellious hair, and that it is anti-frizz, anti-humidity and and anti-electrostatic. My hair is long, and can sometimes be quite frizzy when it is first washed and also I have a lot of fly aways due to breakage and it is this that I was hoping this shampoo and conditioner would sort out.
The shampoo is white, and has a very green fruity smell to it. Its not overpowering though which is good. I found that it didn't lather as well as other shampoos I have used, so needed to use a little more product and more effort to spread it from root to tip. After rinsing of the shampoo for the second time, I found that I didn't get the usual 'squeak' from freshly washed hair which I think is due to the fact that it leaves a residue on the hair; something that I do not personally like in hair products.
Since the conditioner is not in the catalogue, I'll just add a bit about it here. Although to be honest there's not much to add really - The consistency is quite thin, and after about 3 minutes of being left on the hair which I do with all conditioners, it didnt seem to have any effects at all, and had very little detangling effect.
Once my hair was dry, it felt limp, lacklustre and almost coated - The ends felt like they were sticking together which made it tangle really easily. I couldn't see any improvement in the flyaways at all and if anything the roots looked greasy, and yes the ends were more defined but that was because they were all stuck together! I also didn't notice any improvement in shine as the name would imply that I should. Also I normally wash my hair every 3rd day, but due to the sticky and greasy nature of these products I was desperate for a wash by the 2nd day and my hair just looked like a slick!
Unfortunately I really didn't get on with this shampoo and conditioner. It may well be that my hair wasn't suitable for this type of products or perhaps it is because I am so used to moisturising and nourishing formulas that this just didn't make an impression. But whatever the reason, this will be put to the back of the cupboard for a rainy day and I won't be purchasing it again.
I am fortunate enough to have curly hair; but I also have the dreaded frizz that accompanies it. I have tried many a product that claims to tame frizz but with very few successes. Some may tame frizz but leave your hair looking greasy despite having just been washed and others barely making a difference to the frizz. I rarely find a product that I am satisfied with in terms of taming my frizz. One product I have been impressed with is this Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine shampoo and conditioner and for the small price I paid it is even more impressive.
** Garnier **
Fructis is part of the Garnier family providing hair care aimed at every hair type; meaning there is something for everyone. Garnier believe that their target market is the self-confident woman who seeks to improve her appearance. While I guess this may be true, I don't think you need to be self-confident to want to wash your hair...
** Sleek and Shine **
The sleek and shine range is produced specifically to make your hair feel smooth, sleek and without frizz. They claim that the added fruit oils nourish the hair from root to tip to achieve this. The results it claims to give are: anti-humidity, heat protection, super shine, soft-to-touch, flowing style.
** Frizz Free? **
Like myself personally, my frizzy hair is very stubborn and normally refuses to move for most products. However, like me there are some people that can come round and change my mind. This is what this shampoo and conditioner combo is like.
On first using it you can smell the fresh, fruity smell. It does not smell too sweet or artificial, just the right balance and makes your hair smell nice and fresh even once its dry. It is probably one of my favourite hair smells: it doesn't have that unnatural smell that other hair products have.
The shampoo lathers really well so you don't have to use much to cover your hair (even my long, thick hair). The lather feels lovely and smooth, like a good quality shampoo. The smell of the product fills the shower as you massage it in. This is similar to the conditioner, you can feel your hair instantly softer when you apply it.
Once your hair is dry (as my hair is curly I leave my hair to dry itself) you are left with soft, smooth and indeed with limited frizz. I don't think anything could get rid of all my frizz but this definitely got rid of at least 95% of it. Which is a good bit more than anything else would. I have never been so impressed with a shampoo and conditioner in taming my frizz. And I have tried a lot of products aimed at reducing frizz.
** Price and Availability **
You can find this shampoo and conditioner at many stores selling beauty products, such as big chains like Boots and bargain stores such as Home Bargains. Shop around and you can find a good deal. I have always paid between £1 and £1.25 per bottle.
** Overall **
Overall, I have been nothing but impressed with this product. It does what itself on the bottle and reduces my frizz. I can't comment on the heat protection as I don't often use heat on my hair (except to straighten it when I am dying it). My hair is softer and smells gorgeous. All for a cheap price of around £1 which is a lot cheaper than more expensive products and does a better job than a lot of them too.
I would definitely recommend giving this a try if you have a problem with frizz. Or, if not perhaps another shampoo/ conditioner more suited for your hair in the Fructis range.
