- Why I Bought -
I used to purchase shampoo and conditioner from the Alberto Balsam brand as I could usually get it for £1 a bottle in supermarkets. I then discovered the wide range of great quality shampoos and conditioners that are available in Poundland. I got rather hooked on the Palmolive range but more recently I have spotted Garnier Fructis products. I know this to be a great brand so I have bought quite a few to try. As my hair has been feeling a little dry recently this conditioner for dry and damaged hair seemed like it would work well for me.
- The Packaging -
The Repair and Shine conditioner comes in a bright yellow, curved, thick plastic bottle. The bright egg yolk yellow shade manages to look quite cool and vibrant rather than garish. The plastic has a bit of a shine to it which makes it look like a good quality item. At the bottom there is a cap lid which is a little tricky to open when you have wet hands. I often end up opening it with my teeth and inevitably get a nasty taste in my mouth. I think this is something Garnier should improve as it is quite irritating. I am always wary of bottles that open at the bottom but I haven't had any problems with leaking. The opening of the bottle is quite small so a controlled about of conditioner is delivered when the bottle is squeezed. I like that the bottom of the bottle is quite narrow because it means it fits nicely on the edge of my bath when I'm using it.
On the front of the bottle is the name of the conditioner, that it is for dry and damaged hair and contains olive, avocado and shea. It states that the conditioner intensely nourishes and replenishes soft, silky and shiny hair and that it makes detangling easy. There is a picture of what I presume is the olive, avocado and shea oils. On the back there is a list of ingredients and a bit of information about the conditioner such as that the ingredients do specific things for your hair: Olive oil nourishes hair to give it shine; avocado oil conditions the hair for a softer feel; and shea oil leaves it with a silky touch. I think the bottle makes it look like it cost more than £1, it looks more like it cost £2-3 to me. I think the bottle is attractive enough for a conditioner, the only downside is that the cap can be tricky to open. I like my shampoo and conditioner to match and the shampoo in the same range does have a matching bottle.
- Conditioning -
The conditioner is pearly white in colour and I would describe it as having a quite thick consistency. Even before applying it to my hair I could tell there was a difference in quality compared to cheap brands.
It feels really creamy and luxurious in my hand and this feels really nice when it is applied to my hair. When I ran my hands down my hair to rub in the conditioner my hair felt amazingly silky and I was left hoping my hair would continue to feel like this after I had washed it off. I would describe the smell as sweet and pleasant enough. It is fairly easy to wash off the conditioner and it leaves my hair feeling thoroughly cleaned and fresh. I always use it in combination with the shampoo from the same range.
- The Results -
It is easy to brush through my long hair after using this and I would say my hair feels really silky and nourished. I chose the conditioner for dry and damaged hair as during my pregnancy I have noticed that my hair has more split ends than normal and my hair is a little dry. I didn't really expect the conditioner to solve the split ends problem but it is nice that my hair feels more nourished. When dried I prefer the appearance of my hair as it looks sleeker and smoother than it had previously with other conditioners. This is a real benefit for me as I don't like to straighten and style my hair everyday so it is great if my hair can look good 'o naturelle'. The smell lingers on my hair for about a day which is nice. As I also use the shampoo from the same range it is hard to say if the results are down to the shampoo, conditioner or both but overall I am very happy with the results.
- Priced Availability -
I paid £1 for this conditioner in Poundland which I thought was very good for what I would consider a good quality brand. I haven't had much luck comparing prices for this conditioner as it seems not many shops stock it but it is also £1 in Asda. I do think this price is very reasonable.
- Would I Recommend? -
I would certainly recommend this conditioner as I have been really pleased with the results when used in combination with the shampoo. I feel my hair is silky soft, nourished and looks great. I will definitely continue to stock up on this in Poundland.
~Repair and Shine Conditioner~
This conditioner is part of the Fructis hair care range offered by Garnier. A matching shampoo is available. Garnier aim this conditioner at those who have dry or damaged hair. The conditioner is enriched with three oils which each play a different role :
*Avocado oil - acts as a conditioner to leave hair feeling soft
*Shea oil (check for allergies) - to leave hair feeling silky
*Olive oil - for nourishment and shine
Garnier state that this conditioner will help to nourish and replenish your hair whilst leaving it soft, smooth and easy to manage. It is recommended that you use this conditioner alongside the matching shampoo and you should apply it from root to tip and leave for a few minutes before rinsing it off.
The Garnier website shows a deep green bottle but at the moment, I can only locate this conditioner in a yellow/orange coloured bottle. The bottle is made from squeezy plastic and there is a flip cap at the base so you can identify this as a conditioner. The bottle can be recycled and this conditioner has a 12month shelf life.
~Where To Buy~
You can purchase this conditioner from bargain stores including Home Bargains and Poundland priced from 89p-£1.00 for a 250ml bottle.
I bought this alongside the matching conditioner whilst on holiday a few weeks ago. We decided to buy our main toiletries when we arrived and I was more than happy to pay 89p for my bottle from Home Bargains. Now that this conditioner has been used alongside the shampoo for the past few weeks by both my fiancé and I, I would like to air my views on it.
I tend to wash my hair three times a week but normally only use a proper conditioner once or twice per week. it really depends on how short I am on time as I have a spray in conditioner for when I am in a rush. I have long, thick and dry hair which is coloured and becomes frizzy and out of control very easily. My hair is often desperate for a moisturise boost so I like to apply a conditioner after shampooing to ensure my hair is left soft and hydrated.
This conditioner is lovely to use. It is very thick but easy to dispense. I find the soft, thick liquid to resemble a hair mask which for me, is a positive thing. I dispense a reasonable sized blob of the creamy, yellow coloured conditioner onto my palm and work it through the length of my hair. It spreads beautifully and a little goes a long way as it is so creamy and smooth in consistency. The scent of this conditioner is gorgeous. It smells just like the shampoo but a little stronger and has a fruity, sweet aroma which to me, seems quite exotic. I'm not sure of the exact scent information but it smells like a lovely fruity cocktail with a delicate soapy undertone giving it a burst of freshness.
Whilst applying this conditioner, I do find that my hair feels instantly soft and I can run my fingers through it without encountering any tangles. I have been using this alongside the shampoo. The shampoo itself is quite conditioning but I still favour using the conditioner too for the best results. I find that this conditioner gets to work very quickly and I only need to leave it on my hair for 2minutes maximum. It rinses well but I find that it takes me a little longer than with other conditioners due to how rich it is hence why I only use it when I have enough time to spend on my hair. Once rinsed thoroughly, no residue is left on my hair.
The results of this conditioner are immediately evident once I have squeezed the excess water from my hair. My hair feels perfectly soft and my comb simply glides through the length of my hair with no hassle at all. It eliminates any tangles and my hair just feels really moisturised and conditioned. I often leave my hair to dry naturally especially if I wash it at night but regardless if I've dried it with a hair dryer or left it to dry itself, the results are still really good. My hair is easy to manage and brush through. I find that my hair is also left looking healthy and with a noticeable shine and no ill effects on my coloured hair. This conditioner is also kind to my sensitive scalp.
I do find that using the shampoo and conditioner together provides the best results. The shampoo leaves my hair clean and soft but the conditioner gives my hair a much needed boost of moisture and both products used together is enough to leave my hair feeling and looking great for 2-3days. I find that whilst this conditioner is quite rich, it doesn't leave my hair feeling greasy or too heavy. I actually find my hair is left feeling lightweight and silky smooth. The fruity scent lingers well and my hair smells very clean too.
My hair has definitely benefited from using this shampoo and conditioner range. I have found that whilst any existing damage to my hair is still there (it will be there until I get my hair cut), my hair has become stronger and is less prone to further damage - it isn't a miracle worker though. I would recommend this conditioner to those who have dry hair as it does work effectively and is an excellent price. I change my hair care products on a regular basis to avoid my hair becoming reliant on any one set of products but I would go back to this one again in the future. My fiancé likes using it too on his short hair but only needs to use it once per week as the shampoo is conditioning enough for him normally. I have been incredibly impressed by the quality and the results offered by this conditioner. It definitely rivals premium brands and our bottle is still going strong! Recommended!
