Garnier Fructis is a brand of shampoo and conditioner that I have used in the past and liked but for whatever reason I switched shampoo to something else. When I saw they did hair styling products though I decided to give the mousse a go as I wanted something to style my hair with and to be honest I really used to like the fructose smell in my hair and was looking forward to achieving that same smell with my styling product.
Now, pay attention as I'm quite funny when it comes to my hair. I have naturally curly hair but I straighten it everyday as I don't like the natural curly wave in my hair. However, once I've straightened it it goes very straight and doesn't have much body (why do I straighten it in the first place you ask!) so I need to give it something to boost it and give it a bit of body and wave without it going curly again.
This is why I decided to give the Garnier Fructis style body and volume mousse. They say that this mousse with provide amplified volume hairstyles with a light and flexible feel which was exactly what I was looking for. The mousse is very easy to use. I use this not only on wet hair before I dry and straighten it but I also use it on my dry hair as well and like the look I can achieve both ways. When I use this mouses on wet hair I tend to use more product than I would on dry hair. I spray out about an apple size amount of mousse, I love it when it comes out of the can as you spray it and its in liquid form and then it foams up almost instantly into a nice sticky mousse. Then I rub it between my hands and work it through my damp hair. This then makes my hair quite easy to comb/brush through and gives it a nice feel. Upon drying I do notice that I can get a bit of body in my hair and it makes it look a bit better than the lank look I often get if I use no product at all. The nice thing is that this mousse does not make my hair sticky or heavy and I never feel like I have product in my hair at all. According to Garnier they combine fixing agents with fruit micro-waxes, chosen for their ability to fortify and protect hair during styling so this is why they can produce a good working product.
On dry hair I use just a bit of mousse between my hands and turn my head upside down and use this product to just shape my hair a little bit and give it some bounce. This works well to and gives it some volume. The styles always hold during the day and keeps my hair looking nice. The smell is that lovely fructose fruit smell which I enjoy and keeps my hair smelling fresh as well which is nice.
A 200ml bottle of this mousse costs £2.65 which I think is a good price as it lasts for quite a few weeks of styling too.
My hair is quite fine and naturally very straight so it can look too flat and I find it needs some volume and 'oomph'. I have used garnier products before and was pleased with them so I thought I would try the volume amplifier mousse.
The product is in standard mousse packaging and was very easy to use. Its texture is also that of a normal mousse. When applied fairly liberally to roots, I did not find that it left a sticky residue, as I have had problems with using other similar products. I then blow dried my hair and there did appear to be an immediate lift to the roots and the hair did appear more volumised. The product also has a pleasing, fruity smell, very similar to many of the other garnier products.
I did find, however, that the lift in the hair roots did not necessarily last all day and my hair was generally fairly flat by the end of the day without constant scrunching and retouching, which did really help.
One thing (among many other things!) that I don't like about my hair is that how it can really look lifeless and drab. Ok my hair is prone to frizz shortly after styling it but if I say straighten my hair straight or curl it it can look ok but my hair looks thin which is why I am always on the look out for products that can thicken the look of my locks.
I really do like the brand that is Fructis and more often than not it is a brand that is on offer and this can of hair mousse was a fine example of this as at the time I bought it I found it in Asda at a pound a bottle.
200ml bright green can with an integrated plastic green nozzle to the top of it. On the front of the can there is a picture of a bamboo stick on there and we are told that it is Garnier Fructis Style Styling Mousse ' Body & Volume' With Bamboo Extract' and that it gives 'Amplified, structured volume' and 'Long-lasting weightless style' and that it gives a Strong hold. On the back of the can other information listed includes being told a small amount the product and how to use it, the ingredients are listed as is the size and contact details for Garnier are given along with lots of information being given in foreign languages too. It's a nice, informative and easy to use can this, the push button is firm and over the top of that you get a clear green plastic safety cap.
According to the information given on the back of the can we are told to use this only on damp hair, dispense a small amount into our hands and evenly distribute it through the hair before using heat appliances.
The mouse is white and thick and a tiny bit sticky in the hands. It has a lovely fresh, unisex fragrance to it that is sort of fruity and sweet and indistinctive. I find a little of this to distribute through my hair with complete ease and hair feels smooth and not heavy before styling it.
I always brush/comb it through first and then dry my hair with a hairdryer. It isn't sticky on the hair to the touch once its on and simply disappears and hair once dried does look a little bit more volumised and with more body in it but not in an outrageous way. For more body of course you can dry hair with it upside down but I have found that, for me this method doesn't really work all that much more and this isn't all that strong at injecting omph in a huge way....just subtly.
However once you have that volume and body within the hair I have found it to stay in the hair all day long as well as the fragrance but it all goes wrong for me if I wish to carry on using heated appliances/stylers after a hairdryer. As I mentioned earlier I like to curl and straighten my locks but after using this I feel that this protects my hair from heat alot and makes it really appear shiny and feel strong but all the heat of things straightening it and curling it removes all body initially created!
In my opinion this is a great product if you want to style hair whilst using the hairdryer and it works to a point. It does feel weightless and soft and the initial sticky feeling I had on m my hands wasn't transfered on to my head but if your looking for a product that gives full on body and can be used before using stylers...then forget it cos the life drops out of it far too easy sadly!
Please note that I am reviewing the same product as the one listed and shown, it's just a foreign can of the same product that I have.
Can be found in all good supermarkets and chemists etc at about £2.59 a can.
