Advantages: Quick, easy, left hair shiny

Disadvantages: horrible plastic gloves, shade didn't come out like the colour on the box at first

I first saw this hair dye advertised in a magazine and really wanted to try it, but the next day when I went into Boots and saw it on special offer, I decided it was fate. The universe wanted me to dye my hair, and it wanted me to use Garnier Herbashine.

The dye comes in a range of 16 shades, ranging from blonde, through to browns, reds and the darkest shade 'brown/black.' It is also suitable for covering grey hair.

In the box you get a pair of gloves, a tube of colour cream, developer milk, a conditioning shine treatment as well as an instruction leaflet complete with diagrams.

The gloves supplied with the dye are those very poor quality 'plastic bag' type gloves, which I really hate, as they are always far far too big for your hands and they make my hands sweat as well, so I wasn't too pleased with that!

Making the dye up is very easy. You simply squeeze the colour cream tube into the developer milk and shake to mix.

The developer milk bottle has a long nozzle and you simply break off the tip and apply directly to the hair (which should be dry and unwashed). You use the nozzle to separate the hair into sections and once the hair is coated, just massage the dye in. You only need to leave the hair dye on for 10 minutes, this seems an increasing trend with the new hair dyes on the market, and there are suddenly lots of 10 minute hair colourants popping up on the market. There is no strong smell to the dye, and it did not irritate my scalp in any way.

After 10 minutes, you just need to rinse out the dye and apply the conditioning treatment which only needs to stay on for one minute. The whole process is very simple and easy, and I like that there isn't too much waiting around for the colour to develop.

Now the colour I chose was golden dark brown, the same sort of colour as I normally choose when dying my hair. When my hair dried however, I was horrified to see that it was actually copper. Yes, copper, a bright orangey copper colour. With my reddish skin tones it looked absolutely horrendous. Thankfully after I washed it later that night, the colour seemed to revert to a dark brown colour, and there was no sign of this initial coppery tone. It may just have been that I hadn't rinsed the dye out properly, but still it was a bit worrying, and I'm just glad that it didn't last!

One thing this dye has done for my hair, is left it really shiny. Ever since dying it, my hair has had a lovely glossy sheen, something which apparently is due to the bamboo extract it contains.

The hair dye costs £5.37 from Boots.

Overall I'm quite pleased with the dye - it was quick and easy to use and left my hair very shiny. The only worrying thing, like I say, is that the colour was completely different straight after dyeing and it took a wash to get it to look the colour it should have been. This itself worried me to the extent that I don't think I would buy the dye again, for fear my hair may turn out the wrong colour. It's a shame really, as otherwise it was quite a good dye for me, but I don't know if I'm willing to take the risk of using it again!

Summary: Herba-shiney

great review! I hate cheap gloves when dying my hair, the 'plastic bag ones' always tend to rip between my thumb and forefinger and i end up with loads of dye on my skin :(
