Advantages: it lasts for a good while
Disadvantages: maybe the gloves
Being one of them people who constantly dyes their hair I am forever trying out new dyes but since using this one I have tended to stick to it as I am very impressed.
The box dye you can get from most supermarkets and stores including Wilkinsons, Boots, Superdrug, Savers etc. It costs roughly £5, possibly less at times. You can buy it in a few different shades including Almond Shade 7 Blonde, Cocoa Shade 4 Dark Brown, Mocha Shade 5 Brown, Extra Light Natural Blonde 10, Dark Golden Brown 4.3 and many more. I stick to Cocoa Shade 4 Dark Brown, I chose this one as my hair was light and I wanted to go dark and be able to stick to a dark colour, I did not want a reddy brown or a light brown so the Dark Brown I was hoping would be perfect for me. They are permanent colourings so not suitable from someone looking for a temporary colour which washes out within days, instead a permanent colour has to grow out or be dyed over (which is not reccomend by hairdressers) if you want it gone.
It comes in a brightly coloured yellow/lime green box, so easy to spot on shop shelves. I also recognise it from the adverts with Davina Mcall where she is telling her mum it covers "all the greys", I don't want to use it to cover greys quite yet and hopefully not for a long while I just wanted it to cover my roots when they begin to come through.
Inside the box you have your instruction leaflet which tells you how long you need to leave it on for etc also attached to this is your pack of gloves. They are not the best gloves but you can buy latex gloves if need be, you have your colourant in it's tube and an applicant bottle if your colour developer. Last but not least you have your Garnier conditioner.
The tube of colourant has to be squeezed into the developer bottle, once all in you screw the lid back on and shake well to mix it all up, gradually the colour inside the bottle goes from white to brown, almost black. You can apply it to your hair however you want, but it does help to where the gloves as it will become very messy on your hands otherwise. I find the mixture quite thick, so it doesn't drip all that much but as I am quite a messy person anyway I tend to have coloured marks all over my hairline and usually down my neck. To get the dried colour off your skin all you have to do is rub a bit of colour into it to loosen it and then rinse it off with a little water. I tend to apply the colour to my roots first and then comb it through my hair so I don't leave a strand uncovered. I then massage it into my head, which does feel rather refreshing, and mould my hair into a ball onto the top of my head. I leave it for 30minutes, sometimes more and then rinse off.
It is a bit of a mess having to rinse it off as the dye is thick and you can most definitely feel the thickness in your hair. I do two shampoo washes and then use the conditioner provided. When rinsing the dye off first I make sure the water is running clear, this is how I know I've got the excess dye off my scalp. When applying my shampoo I lather it up well and really massage it into my head to remove and dried up dye from my scalp too, the massaging movements of my fingers are very relaxing to and really does freshen up my head, and I will say brain. The movements I learnt when I studied hairdressing in college years ago were Petrissage, Effleurage and there was another one but I can't remember the name. The posh words basically mean really working your fingers into and around your scalp when washing your hair, putting pressure on certain points and moving your fingers and circular motions to really massage your actual scalp the way you would massage a body with your hands.
The conditioner prevents the tangles in my hair, and leaves me hair literally silky soft and looking so shiny. I would love to know what conditioner it is though so I can could just go out and buy it in a shop.could leave my hair without dying it for well over 6 weeks and my roots wouldn't be half as bad as what they have been before and the colour is still vibrant and basically looking good.
This dye works the same as many boxed hairdyes as many of you will already know who have experienced the gunk, and the mess that comes with them. Thats all part of a hairdye I suppose but the reason I keep using this one is because the colour itself is lovely, really noticeable despite me using the same colour all the time people do notice the difference when I've just done it. It also lasts a good few weeks, I could leave it for at least 6 weeks and my roots would hardly be seen and my hair would be just as vibrant and shiny as it was in the beginning.
I reccomend this dye to anybody thats looking for one reasonably priced and actually does it's job, colours your hair, and leaves your hair looking good for ages!
Summary: a brilliant hairdye does exactly what its suppose to do
