Advantages: Quick, easy to follow instructions, good colour
Disadvantages: Slightly difficult to squeeze dye from bottle when applying
I have been dying my hair since I was a teenager - which is a few years now, and have dabbled in most colours. When I had less kids and more money - I would always go to a professional hair salon, now that the tables have turned, I rely on the home hair dying kits and Garnier Nutrisse is my current favourite.
As with all hair dye brands, there are a range of colours available from blonde through to black with everything in between. As I'm currently sticking as close to my natural colour as I can remember, I opt for 4.3 Rich Mocha - which cost £4 per box in most supermarkets. Garnier Nutrisse tends to stand out from the rest of the hair dyes on the shelves - due to the bright yellow and green box.
Within each box there is the instruction leaflet with lots of helpful pictures to guide you through the process . It also contains a large warning to conduct a skin test 48hrs before you use the dye - which is standard with all home kits that I've used. There's also thin plastic gloves to protect your hands from the dye, a tube of colourant, a development bottle and the avocado oil conditioner which now contains 2x as much avocado oil.
To make up the dye, you have to squeeze the colourant into the development bottle and shake vigorously. Once shaken, immediately snap the cap from the top of the bottle to stop the mixture exploding. You can now begin to apply the dye to your hair.
To use, you squeeze the development bottle over your hair, covering as much as possible. The dye mixture is quite thick and can take some effort to squeeze out of the tiny bottle nib, but being so thick does mean that it's easier to control. Once you have covered your hair, massage it in, then pile your hair on top of your head, and leave it for 25 minutes. My hair is pretty long and doesn't stay on top of my head for long, so I make sure I have a towel around my shoulders. If like me once you've finished applying the dye to your hair, just to look in the mirror and see you have covered your face, neck, ears with it too - it is really easy just to rub off.
When the 25 minutes is up, rinse your hair until the water runs clear, then apply the Avocado oil conditioner, massage in and then you can rinse and style your hair as normal.
Every-time I have used this hair dye, the resulting colour has always been even and it leaves my hair nice and glossy - and not at all dry, which can be a problem with hair dyes I've used in the past. It tends to last about 6-8 weeks before I can see the roots growing through and I have to reapply but during that time the colours lasts well, without fading or going patchy.
All in all, a good home hair dye
Summary: A good dye
