Advantages: Nice rich deep colour

Disadvantages: Sloppy mixture.

I haven't dyed my hair since before I had my two sons, but as a teenager I used to do it all the time and have made my way through most of the major brands. I decided on the Garnier Nutrisse (Deep Frosted Brown) as it was on offer and the colour looked like what I wanted, a darker, richer shade of brown as I'm brunette already but my natural colour is a little dull.

The product is to be applied to dry hair, which makes it easier, but they do recommend not having washed your hair for at least 48 hours prior to use so if you have washed your hair that morning you will then have to wait a few days.
The preparation is fairly straightforward although I would prefer it if the colour didn't come in a tube as I felt I had to be very careful to squeeze it all out and this took a while.
My hair is below shoulder length these days and fairly fine so there was plenty of product to go on my hair, but of you have long or thick hair I would recommend using two packs to make sure you get an even coverage.
The main problem I had with this product is that the mixture is quite sloppy, you really do need a towel around your shoulders and please don't wear decent trousers! I spilled a fair bit on myself during application, but as I said before I haven't done this for a few years so it may have been that (and the clumsiness of pregnancy). I got a lot on my forehead, ears and neck but it wiped off well and didn't stain so no harm done.
Once I had totally slathered my hair, the product plastered it to my head nicely (as it's quite short) so that's how I left it, to develop for the required 30 minutes. After a little tingling and itching, which I usually experience with hair dye, I carried on making the 3kg of mincemeat which was my other job for the evening. Perfect timing it seems as when I had finished it was time to rinse off!
The instructions recommend applying shampoo before water, to emulsify the product. This is definitely neccesary, I also found I had to shampoo it again halfway through with my own shampoo as the dye took a long time to rinse out.

The Result
I was very pleased with the colour (though not the lingering smell of hair dye that followed me for days!) and recieved a lot of positive comments. It obviously doesn't look natural though so if you wanted a natural looking colour I wouldn't pick this shade, but I'm not too bothered about that. I would use it again though as it's cheap and has made my hair lovely and shiny to look at and definitely brightened up my Autumn Look!

Summary: If you take care when applying you'll be fine but don't buy if you want a natural looking shade.
