Advantages: Strong colour, covers greys well

Disadvantages: Smells strong, but this isn't a big worry because it will soon go!

Five minutes ago I was in the bathroom applying a Garnier Nutrisse hair dye to my hair with a strong but luckily not too toxic smell and a silky consistency. I had high hopes for this hair dye as I have heard a lot of good things about it so I will see if it lives up to my expectations!

I am sat here writing this review with the Garnier Nutrisse hair colour on my hair, so I will give feedback on the results after the recommended 25 minutes. (I would usually leave hair dye on for 5 minutes longer that the recommended time but as my hair has been dyed many times before it takes to the colour better. This applies to most people with dyed hair so try to leave it on for the minimum to keep your hair in better condition. For example, if the dye says 20-30 minutes, leave it on for 20).

Anyway, 25 minutes, two conditioner treatments and one towel dry later and I was very pleased with the results!

*The Smell*

It comes with a sachet of gorgeous smelling conditioner, which is lovely and makes your hair very smooth. It looks quite small but actually is enough for two or more applications, depending on how much hair you have (I have thick, long hair but I only use conditioner on the ends because it is better for your hair and stops it getting greasy at the roots too quickly).

Unfortunately when your hair dries the smell of the dye over-powers the conditioner and it is not a very pleasant smell. Even though it does smell strong, I wouldn't recommend washing your hair again to get rid of it as this will actually dry it out more and you will get more split ends. Just wash it again the next day and after a few washes the smell will go.

*The Colour*
Before this colour I had a sort of mahogany colour on my hair, which was fading and looked really bad. Also I had light brown roots coming through so I thought it would be hard to find a strong enough colour to blend both the brown and the mahogany together. I was actually very impressed with the colour because it is very rich and natural looking. However, be warned because it will (especially on already dyed hair) come out quite a few shades darker than you expect!

The picture on the box looked like a normal to dark brown, but in actual fact it is a very dark brown that in some lights almost looks black. I personally like the colour, but this is just a warning in case it's too dark for you! It's actually a really good colour for if you want to go black, but sometimes blacks can just be too harsh, look dry and lose shine after a while so this colour is basically a toned down black. It also covers greys very well because my mum used exactly the same colour from Garnier Nutrisse and it completely blended all her grey hairs.

*The Price*

Because I have thick, long hair, I had to use two of these dyes and still only just covered all of my hair but it still wasn't at all pricy compared to how much it costs to get your hair professionally coloured at a salon. They cost about £5 each (so £10 for me, which is still very good value for money).

Overall there is nothing too bad I can say about this product - but I have only had it on my hair for a little while so I might add to this review soon to say if it fades or lasts well!

Hope this is helpful, LouLou_xx

Summary: Good value, well worth the money and doesn't take long to apply.
