      A good product

I have never been that big of a fan of hair spray, it has always seemed quite 80's to me (with all the big hair and stuff) Since I nearly always wear my hair either in a simple ponytail or down straight I have never really felt the need to use it.

When I bought my GHD straighteners I got a bottle of 'ghd fixation spray' free with them. I was slightly dubious since the bottle stated 'firm hold' on it. I wondered if I would ever find a use for this fixation spray, I had pictures in my head of my hair being stuck like glue in one position and feeling sticky, I quite like my hair to be able to move around naturally. Reassuringly though, on the back of the bottle was written 'This light non-sticky hairspray is delivered in a fine mist which dries quickly to retain bounce and shine whilst giving a firm hold.' Of course I was going to give it a try, I had nothing to lose!

The fixation spray comes in a black plastic bottle, which is triangular in shape. The lid easily pops off and clicks back on. On the front of the bottle is a mosaic type design in a half oval shape which comes down from the top of the bottle and the bottle reads 'ghd' and underneath that 'fixation spray, firm hold'.

This is different from spray-can hairspray. Unlike the normal pressurised cans this is squirty liquid that comes out of a spray pump when you press it.

Thankfully the fixation spray doesn't have that awful chemically smell that I remember the can hairsprays to have. It actually smells quite nice and sweet, and not too strong.

When I applied it, the spray bottle gave a nice and even spurt of spray. I found that my hair could still move around and wasn't hard. The hairspray dried really quickly and it didn't feel at all sticky. I have found that instead of spraying it straight on to my hair, I quite like to spray it onto a hairbrush first and then brush it in. This really helps me with defrizzing! My hair is awful in humid weather. I have naturally wavy hair, which will frizz up at the slightest hint of hot weather. If I have straightened it and am wearing it down, I find that if I brush some of this through it really helps with keeping my hair straight. It doesn't make my hair look greasy or wet or sticky. It just looks like it normally does, but at the same time making it behave itself. I find that once it is applied it will last all day, I don't need to give it a top up at all, and once you shower the spray is easily washed out.

It used to be quite hard to get hold of Ghd products, being mostly sold in salons and hair dressers. Now a lot of the high street shops have started selling them, such as Boots. The whole Ghd range is also widely available online. The bottle comes in a 150ml size and costs £12.95. The fixation spray is to be used within 24 months of being opened.

The one really annoying thing that I have found with this bottle is that it seems to leak out of the spray hole. If it is knocked over at all the liquid gathers outside the spray hole and dries hard like glue so I have to chip it off. This can get to around pea-sized, which is really frustrating. No good for travelling if it happens everytime it is not upright!

I recommend this spray. I thought that I would not be able to find a use for it when I first got it but now I use it regularly in my styling routine. The thing I really liked about it is that it doesn't make you hair rock solid, it still allows the hair to move around naturally but whilst also keeping it in the same shape you originally styled it in, and this was the biggest thing for me. The fixation spray also contains UVA protection, which also earns brownie points in my book. It loses a star for the annoying leaking bottle, but maybe this was just a fault with my particular one.

A GHD product for hair styling

I have said in previous reviews that I like to look good and I am happy to take a few hours to get ready if it means I feel comfortable when I am going out on the town. I have a set routine which is now almost like a ritual when I am getting ready to go out and I spend an amazing amount of time on my prized asset - my hair.

Having long blonde hair which looks good all of the time leads to me getting a lot of compliments and it makes me feel proud that someone notices the effort I have gone too, to look good.

After washing and drying my hair I always use my GHD ceramic straighteners to ensure I get smooth sleek straight locks. My blonde locks are quite flyaway and by that I mean my hair isn't thick, so getting it super sleek is never a problem, keeping it that was is. Now I've tried a wide variety of products on my hair and to be honest I hate hairspray, I think it is tacky, it smells vile and I don't like the feeling of having my hair clumped together being sticky and also with hairspray if you go into a club where it is quite humid the hairspray melts away. So I wanted something that would keep my hair straight and sleek but bouncy and movable at the same time so it looked perfectly natural.

To get that look I wanted I had expected to either never find a product or have to pay footballers wives prices to achieve it and to be honest I would have paid the money, that's how serious I am about having my hair perfected.

I have always been a fan of the GHD range, I have pretty much tried all of the shampoo and conditioners designed for my hairy type and I love them but I had tried any products in what they call the Step 4 part of having beautiful locks. In the Step 4 section you can expect to find sculpting wax and hair serum for example to finish off your style and leave you ready for a night out. I decided to try the GHD Fixation spray - Firm Hold.

The GHD Fixation spray - Firm Hold Is presented to me in a 150ml brown bottle, the usual looking packaging that GHD products are sold in and on the front of the bottle is the GHD Logo and the lid is easy to pull off and remove leaving a nozzle which you use to distribute the lotion inside. The GHD Fixation spray works like a hairspray in many respects in that when it is sprayed it produces a light mist which oddly enough is not in anyway sticky, it is like applying water to your hair only it dries super fast and doesn't leave any sticky residue or build up like you sometimes get with hairspray where when you use a little too much your hair goes quite hard and unmovable until you try to come it out and it looks like you have the worst case of dandruff ever. The GHD Fixation spray is as easy to remove as it is to apply and all you have to do is brush your hair once your night out is finished.

The best and really only time you should be using this spray is when your hair is completely dry to allow it to sit and hold your hairstyle in place, once you have finished with your hair straighteners or whatever it is you use, you apply the product. If you have wavy or curly hair again it works just as well. To apply the product you simply spritz it like you would a hairspray over your hair and allow it to settle and dry, it is very quick drying.
The first thing I noticed when I first started to use this product is that once you have applied it you cannot actually tell it is there, there is no overpowering smells like you would get with hairspray and I have found it quite difficult to distinguish any kind of smell at all, the only reason I know it is upon my hair is because I've used a mirror to apply it and seen it settle upon my hair.

I like this product because it does retain your hairstyle whilst looking natural, I can go out knowing that even if it is slightly windy outside my hair will not look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards, it simply sets back into position, a bit like I have Velcro attached to my hair snapping it back into position. It also adds a fantastic shine to my hair as well and I love the overall look it gives me.

When you wash your hair and comb through every trace of the product is removed leaving no residue or build up and all for the bargain price of £12.95. I purchased my spray direct from the GHD website although it is available online at many different outlets ranging in price from £8.95 to £12.95

I am a big fan of this product and I am happy I didn't have to pay a footballers wife price to achieve the look I wanted. If you like me want sleek locks which stay in place then I may just have found that perfect product.

For information purposes, this product is not shipped outside of the mainland UK as stated on the GHD website where you can check for more information and details.
