Advantages: Best Hair product ever!!
Disadvantages: None
Arguably one of the best hair products ever invented, GHD hair straighteners are officially a phenomenon. Ask pretty much any female you know and they will tell you if they have a pair they could never live without them and if they don't have a pair they are dying to get their hands on some.
Now until recently I never knew that GHD actually stood for Good Hair Day! The company was founded in 2001 and is the UK's leading manufacturer of hair irons and hair products. The irons themselves are actually made by a South Korean company called KICA and have been described as "one of the most successful hair products in history" by the Yorkshire Post.
I think what ahs also helped their popularity is the celebrity endorsements they receive. In this country where people hang on the every word of famous people and read countless magazines about them if they say they use GHD's then everyone will want to go out and get a pair.
The irons come in a number of different sizes, GHD IV Styler, GHD IV Salon Styler, and GHD IV Mini Styler. I've got quite long, thick hair so I decided to recently buy the GHD Salon Styler because this one has the largest heating plates and so I can get a lot of hair in each section through the irons.
The heating plates are different from that of ordinary straighteners because they are made from a ceramic material meaning they are gold coloured instead of the usual silver colour. The ceramic, unlike regular metal plates is said to reduce frizz and damaging impact on the hair. When you use products like these you have to remember that you are subjecting your hair to intense heat which is not always good for it. The ceramic material is said to cut down on the damage that could regularly be caused. The hot ceramic plates/heaters are also so smooth and leave you with a static-free sheen (often a problem with other products) that you really feel you are looking after you hair.
Even with this technology GHD still do a range of hair care treatments such as protection spray that is said to counteract the heating effects of their straighteners.
When I bought my current pair of irons you actually got a bottle of the hair protection spray included which was nice and I do try and use it in conjunction with the irons to make my hair feel even better.
I would have to say that these are the best straightners I have ever owned! For years I have battled with my curly, matted hair and have used a variety of different products to try and tame it. I get such a poker straight head of hair when I use these that you can really tell the difference between regular straighteners. My hair also looks healthy and silky which is a bonus as far as I'm concerned.
The other great thing I like about hem is that they have cut down the amount of time that I spend straightening my hair. Before with an old pair I had to go over the same section of hair to get it as straight as I can now but with the GHD's it only takes one go and my strand is straight.
The Salon Styler pair are fairly expensive, mine cost £109 but it was well worth the investment. I've only had mine a short time but I know people who have had theirs for years and they are still working just as well as new. Once you work out the price over a number of years then you will see it is worth the investment.
They came in a nice box with, like I've mentioned above, a bottle of the GHD heat treatment spray and a demonstration DVD to show you how best to use them. I got them about 6 months ago now and still have some of the spray left so that was a nice addition.
The beauty about these straighteners are:
They heat up quickly
They straighten quickly
The roundness of the ends also allow you to curl your hair too. You can get lovely wavy curls by twisting small amounts of hair in the straightner and pulling away from your head.
Another nice safety feature is that they have a sleep mode where if you don't use them for 30 minutes or more there turn themselves off so no more having panic attacks at work wondering whether you turned them off or not, I've done that a few times I can assure you!
Another great benefit is that they have universal voltage so you can use them anywhere in the world. I've just used them in the US and they were perfect, just like using them at home, no loss of power or lower heat etc like you get with other straighteners when you use a converter.
One thing to beware of, a lot of companies nowadays try to sell fake GHD's that are nowhere near as good as the original. I would advise in order to get a proper pair buy from their website at www.ghdhair.com and look for the official hologram on all pairs.
All in all, even though these straighteners are fairly expensive it is well worth the purchase for ease and quality of use and you will be glad you invested!
