Advantages: Super sleek, fabulous hair everytime!

Disadvantages: Quite a large sum of money to put down in one go, and the potential damage to hair through over use!

I know there are a lot of reviews on GHD's on here, but I thought I would add my thoughts, in terms of longevity of the product in question and the effect on your hair over a long period of time. I bought my GHD's nearly 4 years ago now. They were and still are so luxurious. Before them I had 2 pairs of hair straightners that each took an age to become even slightly warm and merely flattened my hair slightly, occasionally causing a strange burning smell. I'm sure I would have had similar results from an actual iron. Anyway getting the GHD's was such a revelation. I knew about them, and they used them at the hairdressers, but I didn't realise HOW MUCH better these were than any other straightening irons. The results were fantastic!

My usual frizzy, bushy hair was instantly transformed to soft, light, sleek hair that sat poker straight. I no longer had to leave an extra half an hour free in the morning in order to "do something" with my hair. 5 minutes and my hair was perfect! I no longer had to have someone check the back of my hair to see if it was straight, I knew it was.

The main difference between these straightners and other straightners I had seen is the thin ceramic plates. They are much slimmer and miles easier to handle. (Incidentally I have never in nearly 4 years had a burn from GHD's unlike my other straightners where it was a regular occurence). They heat up to 210 degrees in under 10 seconds, and when you run them through your hair, your hair is actually hot to touch afterwards. This obviously isn't brilliant for your hair, but I will come to that shortly.

My GHD's cost me £98 at the time, but I believe you can get them for as little as £70 now. I say as little... I know that is a large sum of money, but believe me it's worth every penny and then some. My straightners work today as well as they always have. When I divide that £98 between the 4 years I have had them... suddenly the cost isn't that big.

Now on to the only problem that comes with these little beauties... what is that heat doing to your hair. I can't say it does them wonders, but suprisingly I have found that the damage over the years is perhaps not as significant as you might expect. My hair is pretty much in the same condition it was before, because I take precautions with my hair. Firstly, I no longer use my straightners EVERY day. I give my hair a break from time to time. I also use an intesive conditioning mask on my hair once a week and use a heat protector spray for my hair. (There are many available on the market these days. I believe GHD even have their own range). Other than that I make sure I get my hair cut more regularly than I used to and this seems to have served me well.

I would recommend GHD's to everyone, with a word of caution not to over use them!

Summary: Do you want to have straight hair without any effort....
