Advantages: Everything? They heat up in seconds, get very hot, and the straight look lasts all day.

Disadvantages: I'm struggling to find any!

GHDs are a lifesaver as far as I'm concerned. I've had my pair since ceramics straighteners first came into the market, around 2001. I think I paid £90 but I do remember getting a trade discount because my best friends dad owns a salon. I have been using flat irons before that and they weren't ceramic. They were awful. I had to preplan when I was going to have to use them since they took about 30 minutes to heat up. Even then, they weren't very hot and I had to go over the same section of hair about 5 times.
Anyway, time for some background info on my locks. My hair is fine and naturally fair, however I subject it to trauma in the form of bleach. I get bleach highlights every 5 weeks and have been doing so for 5 years with a tiny few month break in which I decided to dye my hair black (don't ask). It's quite long, about 5 inches from the bottom of my shoulders, and really fine. It's also oily and tends to get greasy within 24 hours.I have to wash, blowdry and straighten my hair on the daily, so safe to say it's kind of frazzled.
The texture of my hair is weird. It's not curly, but it's definately wavy and it has a lot of kinks. Not straightening it at all is just out of the question!
GHDs heat to maximum temperature (210 degrees I believe) in a matter of seconds and I rarely have to go over the same section more than twice. This decreases the damage caused by a significant amount. Also, any frizzyness I have seems to disapear too. My hair is not only straight, but it's flat, and it remains that way for the entire day.
Another fabby thing about GHDs is the shape of the barrel. It allows you to curl/wave the hair too, and let me tell you it works well. You can achieve soft boho waves or tight victoriana ringlets with close to no effort. The outer plastic of GHDs don't heat up so there's only a teeny chance that you'll burn your fingers or neck.
GHD burns hurt alot. And they scar. 'Nuff said there methinks.
I LOVE my GHDs, and I'd never be without them now. Not even for a few days. I take them everywhere with me, and they fit snuggly into my bag. Good Hair Day(s) indeed!

Summary: The best hair straighteners out there.. No competition.
