Where would I be without my GHD's? Flashback to being 13 again with frizzy, curly hair that stuck out like a triangle - Not a good look!
I have stupidly thick and curly hair, inherited from my mum (whose is 10 times worse) and spent years trying to find something that would make my hair sleek and straight without chemically straightening it. My hair saviour came in the form of a hairdresser and a set of Mk3 GHD's.
Within an hour, my shoulder-length frizz ball was sleek, shiny and longer. As soon as I got home I begged my mum to buy me some - I believe the words "I'll have them as Christmas and Birthday presents for years to come!!!" were said - and reluctantly she ordered a set of the internet.
When I offered to straighten her hair she laughed at me and said it would never work. A few teething problems and about an hour later, my mum had perfectly straight hair for the first time in years, maybe ever.
Needless to say, we go our moneys worth out of our Mk3's - until they blew up about 2 and a half years later.
Desperate not to lose our sleek look, I ordered our first set of Mk4's - the pink Breast Cancer edition - easier to handle with a slightly new shape, these straighteners were fantastic. They heat up quicker and seem to make the whole straightening fiasco a lot easier. Not only this, if like me, you have a tendency to get to work and think, "Damn, I left the straighteners on" (Cue several panic-stricken calls to mum/dad/boyfriend/sister/nan and even on occasion, brother apologising for the imminent house fire), this worry is a thing of the past. These babies are amazing - if you don't use them for 15 minutes, they automatically shut down until you use them again (ie, open and close them).
Not only are they amazing straighteners, but they double up as fab curlers. The technique is slightly tricky but as soon as you've got it you're away!
When I moved out, my mum invested in her own set - and it looks like my sister is set to follow in her footsteps!
So, they cost £100 approx. Now think about how many hairdryers you've burnt out from trying to blow dry your hair straight. Or how many cheaper straighteners you've bought because they have promised to make your hair look like someone has ironed it flat. Or how many serums and sprays say they'll give you sleek, shiny straight hair. How many curling tongs have you bought that just don't give your hair that bounce? This is ultimately the cheaper alternative!
Summary: Really good straighteners, also make awesome curlers - fantastic value
