Advantages: Great Build Quality, Great Packaging, Great Technology

Disadvantages: A Little Pricey But Hey, It's Worth It Right?

As a lad, it would seem a little odd for me to be reviewing some hair straighteners. However, and I'm sure a lot of guys will admit to at least using them once in their lifetime. Up until fairly recently, I had fairly long hair, which in the mornings, was just a complete pain to get straight. I originally tried using a set of Babyliss hair straighteners, in order to sort out the unruly mop that was my hair, and, while they were, good, they weren't great. They weren't the most expensive set on the market either, and in truth, they did the job, however sometimes, you need things doing fast. And well.

So I opted from some Mk4 GHD's. At around £120 GBP they were a little bit of a step up from the last ones and with the name GHD stamped on the side, I knew I was investing into quality. The packaging and accessories that come with it, impressed me somewhat when I opened the box. It has a nice, professional looking case that can be used after the original opening to keep them in good condition, in contrast to my usual routine of pulling out the plug and throwing them into the corner... They also come with a rather nice CD-Rom which provides some basic instructions of how to use them etc. and also a 'hard-copy' of instructions for those technophobes of you out there, as well as a nice bottle of GHD heat treatment spray.

Visually, the straighteners look good. Tresemme runs their whole 'Salon quality at affordable prices' advertising campaign and likewise with these, you could see these being used at a salon. Their sleek, dignified and subtly sleek and classy. The logo is printed in red on the upper side, and they feel feel chunky, but reassuringly so in your hands.

In terms of quality of use, they put my previous straighteners to shame. Taking a under a mere ten seconds to achieve optimum heat, you're prompted a flashing LED light on the inside of the 'mouth' and a helpful beep from an in-built speaker. As well as heating up quickly, they heat up extremely well. I found myself finishing my hair in record time, with better results as soon as I started using them and, after trying, could not achieve the same end-result with my old pair. They're also quite clever too. They use a ceramic plate technology to prevent hair frizzing giving the perfect look, and preventing a repeat in that one section of hair that you just did. They also have a 30 minute trigger built in which, if the straighteners are left on for this long, will automatically turn off to prevent both a fire hazard and any potential damage to them.

Overall, the GHD Mk4's a are definite purchase for women OR men in need of straighteners. It's not even necessary to use them for actually straightening in the conventional fashion but also for arranging particular hair-styles that require moulding into place. Although being more expensive than perhaps some rival products on the market, the Mk4's steal the show, giving lasting & professional results that are well worth the money.

Summary: A Must Buy For Anyone In Need Of Straightened Hair
