Advantages: Worth every penny!
Disadvantages: Costly - but worth it!
My hair is almost straight - annoyingly the emphasis is on the "almost" because it has that kink or flick that just seems to want to do its own thing, regardless of what styling products I use or how much I pay for a "state of the art" hairbrush!
About 5 years ago, my hairdresser used the straightening irons on my hair and I discovered that I too can look sleek and sophisticated...........(well, as good as it gets, anyway!).
So I went into Argos and bought some straighteners - we had just moved house, and money was tight, so I spent a whole £24.99 on a pair, eager to get home and make myself look glam every day.
Big mistake - no matter what I did, how much I practiced, how many sections I divided my hair into, I could not get the look I wanted. So for the next few years my straighteners went back in the box and came out very occasionally, only to be tutted at, and frowned on. My hair only looked sleek and glam when I had been to the hairdressers and I had to accept my fate.
Then my daughter, on her 14th birthday, who has inherited the same "almost straight" hair, announced she wanted to spend £100 of her birthday money on some GHDs. What a waste, I said - you can use my old straighteners if you must. Not likely said she, and having also inherited my stubborness, proceeded to search the internet for the best GHD bargain.
I was disappointed - £100 is a lot of money to spend on something that, in my opinion, was going to sit in a box at the bottom of the wardrobe.
HOW WRONG WAS I????? Now, of course, a mother is usually right, but in this case I was so wrong - GHDs are worth every penny! They can make my hair sleek and shiny, glam and glossy, and every other yummy word that you can think of!
These straighteners heat up in seconds - no hanging around here, and seem to glide through my hair effortlessly - just like at the salon!
So now we are sort of sharing the GHDs..........I don't use them every day, because obviously applying that much intense heat to your hair on a regular basis can't be good for it, but when a bit of glam or sleekness is required, I am first to the GHDs.....!
When these ones reach the end of their life, I will be buying another pair - and have acknowledged that sometimes, just sometimes, a 14 year old DOES know best!
Summary: Just like in the salon!

- 27/12/08 sorry - I am not techie enough to know exactly what the difference is between these and my old ones - all I can say is that these do seem to be different and worth the extra money. I wrote my review as my personal experience. |
